I can finally join :)
I have always lurked on this board and marveled at you awesome Mama's of large families! Now I wanna hang out here too!!! I'm 24 weeks pregnant with #4 and I've decided I'm allowed ;)
Plus, the November 2011 board is DEAD, and all the ladies over there are wondering how Asha is doing, and I know she checks in here!!!! ASHA????? We miss you!!!!
I will do a quick intro now that I have time... :)
I'm Sandra (27) and DH Chris (30) and I have been married for 7.5 years. We have 3 kiddies with #4 on the way.
Our only DD, Ella, is 5.5 and in French Immersion Kindergarten this year. She is a shy, sensitive, and dramatic girl. She is a "little mother" and very good to her brothers! She was hoping for a baby girl this time, but after finding out it was a boy, reluctantly said "Well, I guess I will just grow up and be a mom and have my own baby girl." :)
DS1, Eli, just turned 4. He attends preschool 4 days a week (he actually has more school hours than DD because he is full day and she is half day) at a special preschool for children with hearing loss/children with deaf parents. Eli has mild-moderate sensorineural hearing loss in both ears, and just got his hearing aides in September 2012. School is making a drastic improvement regarding his speech delay! He works with speech therapists and also occasionally the Occupational Therapist for help with his fine motor skills. He is an intense, observant, problem-solving, persistent boy.
DS2, Emerson, is 14 months. He is a happy, high energy, "all boy" toddler! He is in the "climb every possible structure and throw everything in the garbage can phase". You know that phase? Yeah ;)
Baby #4 was a little bit of a "surprise", but we should have known better ;) I was still nursing DS2, but we weren't using any sort of protection, so technically we shouldn't have been surprised. Long story short: I stopped nursing completely at 9.5 months. AF hadn't returned, but I wasn't worried, because after I stopped nursing DD, it took 50 days for AF to come back. DH kept nagging me to test because I was sort of getting chubby, I was convinced I was just gaining weight because I stopped nursing and was eating unhealthily. Finally I tested and got 3 BFP (I was in denial so I kept testing!). It took me nearly 4 weeks to get in for a dating ultrasound, and it was revealed that I was already 12 weeks pregnant (meaning I had tested when I was 8 weeks, and I actually got pregnant before I was even done nursing)! We were even more shocked, but we are enjoying this (we think LAST) pregnancy adventure! Our first two kids were 18 months apart, and these last two will be 18 months apart as well.
I can't believe we will be a family of 6!
Hi Sandra! I just returned from Edmonton and visiting the grandkids. Nice to see you here!
I didn't know about Eli's hearing issues. Glad they are being well monitored! Oh the hearing aid stories we could share about Skyler's...
Asha will show up soon I think!
I am here and sending HUGE congratulations to Sandra and family!!!! You could have joined a long time ago because you were always planning a large family!!!!
I am really happy for you!! I also didn't know Eli had hearing problems, were they congenital?
I laughed about Emerson's "stage" of throwing everything in the garbage and climbing everything because that is exactly what Nicholas is doing these days. Just yesterday I was considering diving into garbage bag when I couldn't find my keys.... thankfully they turned up before I did that!!
So, WELCOME to this board I hope we can make it a little bit more lively again. It's the only one I still check up on. Ladies here are full of support and so understanding!
Sandra--I had no idea about Eli's hearing loss either! Glad he is getting the help he needs! And congrats on your #4! I had a surprise for my #2--my only DD :) So I'm kinda hoping that my surprises turn out to be girls, as this #5 is totally a surprise as well--though we were using condoms as BC since baby was born. It was only after AF returned that DH thought I'd be "safe" shortly after my cycle stopped, before I O'd. :/ Guess that's where it takes us! Funny, my first 2 are 20 months apart and I think these two will be 20 months apart too!
And yes, you totally could have joined a long time ago. I joined at 3 :) Around here, if you have more than 2 you get the "hands full" comments and at 4 you get the "are they all yours" and "are you done yet" comments. I'm bracing myself for #5 comments :/ And I don't think I'll actually share news until closer to 18-20 weeks with anyone. Oh, and I'm totally jealous that you didn't even find out until 8 weeks! How nice to skip that whole month!
We had no idea about Eli's hearing loss until he was 3 years old. His speech delay was the only reason we got his hearing tested, we never suspected he had trouble. So we found out about the hearing loss in March 2012 and finally got his hearing aides in September 2012 - we moved to a new province in May 2012 quite suddenly so it took us a while to get organized! It is a permanent, congenital loss.
It was pretty funny to just "miss" my first trimester. I am a lucky bugger who doesn't get morning sickness, so the only things that clued me in were being tired (but who isn't tired?) and getting acne on my forehead. LOL. DH kept bugging me to test and I kept refusing to believe it was possible. Then I broke out in zits and went "Oh crap. I must actually be pregnant".
Congrats and welcome! I'd say 4 definitely qualifies :)
Congrats Sandra and Holly, even if a surprise!!
Now that there are two surprises here, I'm totally worried because I'm at the stage where AF has come back for my previous pregnancies (6mo). I refuse to take a test because it's not possible (denial), and it's totally unlikely, but still it's that stage that will nag until AF shows up. Ugh. Plus Forrest nurses completely differently than the others ever did, and I don't want an unplanned PG NOW! I'm too busy and we don't want another now!!! (But if it happened then we'd be happy).
Well, Sarah- sounds like you could pee on a stick and satisfy our curiosity!!! :D
Sandra- I laughed about the zits and sudden realization! So you moved? Where do you live now? How do you like your new house, town? How did Ella adjust?
Hi Sandra and welcome!! Look forward to getting to know you more!
