But I was reading the kids new Shel Silverstein book (Everything on it--published after his death) and just bawled at this poem! Especially having a new tiny baby that so much resembles my oldest who just turned 8 last week.
Sniff, sniff! I just thought I'd share! The font is weird...i put it up on my facebook and then just copied it here.
Those scratchy marks there on the wall,
they show how short I used to be.
They rise until they get this tall,
and Mama keeps reminding me
The way my dad would take his pen
and as I stood there, stiff and straight,
He'd put a ruler on my head and write the date.
She says that it's my history,
But I don't understand at all
Just why she cries each time she sees
Those scratchy marks there on the wall.
Awww. That's sad. Have you ever seen the new Karate Kid movie? That reminds me of the opening scene where he is marking his height on the wall and writing "moved to China." The wall has all the markings of the various ages, including the mark for "Dad died."

What a great (but sad) poem. DH bought me one of his books when we were dating. His favorite one is the one where a monster is eating someone lol...

We have most of the books, so I'll have to try to find that one
Besides this tear-jerker poem, my other favorite in the newest book is called "Mistake" Pico83 (sorry, I don't remember your name!), have you read that one? Hilarious! The picture says it all! (those who haven't seen the book, the poem talks about a dare taken that they don't think they'll do again and the picture has a snake going in the mouth and out the back of the pants of a surprised looking guy LOL Gross, but funny!
It's not the hormones... I look at my oldest and all I see is a baby, but he is driving now! How fast it really flies!
Now that I'm nearly 70, all drivers look 13 to me Asha!
