However, I do have a friend that has a front loader and loves it. She says her clothes last a lot longer and don't get worn out like they do in a top loader.

I'm friends with the Maytag dealer, and he said the front loaders are not worth buying. They use less water, but they don't last nearly as long as a top loader. I am curious if anyone her has had a front loader that lasted for a long time.
I can gather that by the reviews i have been reading. People replace them after about 6 years or so which is a waste in my opinion. Our 16 year old top loader is still in working condition, an appliance like that should last 20 years at least!

We were told to expect a 6-8 year life on a new machine...and I think that is CRIMINAL!

I don't have the washer of my dreams, but it works. We have a friend who sells appliances and she always recommends Whirpool (but she says she also likes Kitchenaid). We recently bought a new dryer for her and went with the Amana brand, which is made by Whirlpool. HTH! Good luck!

I had to replace my front loader after about 6 years. It was an LG, I loved it. 6 years didn't seem too bad when you consider the amount of laundry we do. We are 3 times the "average" family size, so 3 times the laundry. So, really it's like it lasted 18 years LOL. I felt like you do, overwhelmed. I thought that I wanted the Bravos too, but the reviews weren't all that great and they were pretty expensive. We ended up picking a Kenmore HE top loader. (it is a Kenmore, but it is made by LG) I LOVE LOVE LOVE this washer & dryer. I can get twice as much in a load as I did in my front loader, which means getting laundry done twice as fast! Yay!!! We actually still have our old LG front loaders and planned to fix them and put them upstairs so I would have two sets. But, I can keep up enough now that I don't plan to use two. It was kind of expensive also, but Sears had a great deal on buying the set plus 10% off with a Sears card. Had it about a year now, I still love it. Good luck with your shopping. I dislike buying appliances, I just had to replace our dishwasher too. No fun! Here is what I have:

I have the Kenmore Elite Oasis Washer and Dryer set (top load). I have had them almost 4 years and have been very pleased with them. They are quiet and can take large loads (which is essential for a large family I think). I did have to replace the drum on the washer due to how many loads of laundry we do, but we purchased the extended warranty from Sears so the replacement was free.

Erica and Janea! Thanks for posting about these! I really prefer top loaders! Erica, your family is almost exactly the size of mine and if you like the washer- than it should work for us too!

We bought a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer set (a big one - 5.0 cubic foot capacity washer) last year. I can't speak to how well it will hold up, but so far I'm happy with it... Plus it is really pretty

Yes Asha, I think you will love them. Hopefully they will have a tremendous sale on them soon! I prefer the top load for sure. I can get so much in them that it takes 2 baskets to unload the dryer! Congrats on your new place, so exciting!!!
