Default A sure way to get screams from the yard

Here is what the kids found in the backyard today:

They came running to me in the front yard yelling "SNAKE!!!!!" I thought it had to have been at least 8 feet long and possibly ingesting one of the children for the noise they were making about it. After I picked it up and they realized it would, in fact, not eat them, they held it Gotta love garter snakes! (and yes, my backyard IS a jungle right now and needs a mow and is the perfect habitat for a snake, but there are reasons why it is that long but it will hopefully be done this weekend, once the rest of the branches from our winter-storm-fallen-tree are off of the lawn and put through the grinder--can't exactly mow with pine branches all over the grass what you see i the pics is the neighbors nice trim lawn, ours is at least 8 inches high)

Ooo we don't get many snakes in the UK (in fact we only have one poisonous type here) but I'd still be too scared to pick it up...! You're braver than me!

My kids love garter snakes!!! There is a snake pit not too far north of us, and people flock there every spring and fall to see the "gathering of the snakes". Cool!!!

I study insects so I love that kind of stuff!

lol I've been told our new neighborhood has problems with rattlesnakes... but I haven't seen any yet.

I'm glad it was just a garter snake Did the kids like holding it? I'm a wuss... when my kids see a snake I don't go anywhere near it and I ban the kids from going anywhere near it too... I don't like snakes.

We saw a long bull snake on our hike this weekend-- but we didn't pick it up. It was about 4 ft long...

And we have lots or rattle snakes here in the foothills. Oy. My kids know to stay on the trail.

Wish we only had garters. I love me a garter snake....good for the field mice .

BTW-- your kids are adorable! TFS!

We've had a lot in our yard the last two years - I think it's good luck for your gardens & crops & thus harvest so I love it when I see them! My boys love them too lol Your kids are so cute!

i dont mind snakes here. I dont think any poisionous ones are around here except near water. I've seen rat snakes in the yard. the nes i've seen are around 4-6 ft long dark black. Kinda scary. Hubby hates seeing them and wants to get the shot gun out everytime. I'm not brave enough to pick one up.

You are braver than I. My kids are not at all scared of bugs, because I have always encouraged them to watch them and pick them up, not so much with the snakes, though I have never found one in our yard. Knock on wood. lol
