Just wondering if anyone has had experience with a child who is a bed wetter or has had encopresis. My oldest ds was potty trained at 2.5 and was dry at night for a year. Then he began wetting the bed, occasionally at first and eventually every night. My dh came across an article that said studies have shown that most kids over six who wet the bed are severely constipated because the large mass of fecal matter impacts and enlarges the colon and presses on the bladder and messes with the nerves so they can't feel the need to pee as well. My ds has often had stomach pain that after he poops he feels better. And he has trouble holding pee as well. I called today and spoke with the nurse at the peds office and she said it could be encopresis because kids with it do still poo because some goes around the mass so they probably still poo every day so you wouldn't think they are really backed up. We have an appt set for next week and will have his bowels X-rayed to see what's going on in there. I was just wondering if anyone has has anything like this with their kids? Did constipation treatment help with bedwetting?
