    Default Midwives in Utah?

Hello everyone! Most of you probably don't know who I am...I don't hop on here much anymore. Three little girls keep me busy! Anyway, DH and I are planning on having another soon and I'm on the hunt to find a new midwife. We're in Utah County. DD2 and 3 were born at the American Fork Hospital with the Mt. Timp Women's Health Care midwives (now central utah clinic), but they've made a lot of changes and I really don't want to go back there. I'm willing to travel some if the MW is good. I would really like to have a home or birth center birth but DH isn't on board with a home birth and we can't afford it...which brings me to the fact that I'll be on Medicaid and I need a MW who accepts it...which is why I'm pretty sure I'm destined for a hospital birth.

Does anyone know a good MW around this area??

    Hi Lorna!

I live in the Valley as well. I see and OB but my sister went to Valley OB/GYN with her last one and she enjoyed it. I think they except Medicaid but I'm not certain. Here is there info:
    Valley OB/GYN (801)374-1801
    Fax: (801)216-8357
    700 W 800 N
    Orem, UT 84058

Let me know if you have anymore questions

Thanks for the reply and info, Tiffany. Unfortunately I'm not very interested in using an OB/GYN. I would go back to the midwives at Central Utah Clinic before using an OB. I'm just very low risk and I like the low interventions that midwives use. But thanks!!

I also wanted to mention that I know of the midwives at Orem Community Hospital and I am definitely not interested in them, either. I attended a birth with one of the midwives there last January and was NOT impressed. I felt like she wasn't any better than having an OB.

    Are there any other options?!

Just saw this. I had to LOL at Sandra's post because it is so true. Ha ha! My midwife accepts Medicaid!!!! She is AWESOME too! She is from Pleasant Grove. I am not sure what other midwives accept it but I know she does. She also has a birth center if you don't want to do a home birth and when it comes to paying her, some insurances reimburse rather then just pay up front, she will work with you. We didn't end up paying her till almost a month after I had Lukus. I have a list of good midwives but I totally recommend Heather.

    Here is her website.

There is also another midwife that was at my birth that is just awesome, she is just a DE midwife rather than a CP midwife like Heather. She just started up her own practice so she is really cheap and she is really just in it for helping the mother get the birth she desires. She has a set cost of $1500 but she will work with you too. Sadly I doubt she is set up with any insurances yet. But if you are interested her name is Janee and she is the sweetest kindest calmest person. Heather is a little, shall I say neurotic, she has a fair amount of energy but she can be calm too. During my birth she was actually fairly calm.

Anyway, here is Janee's website as well, she is from Provo.

They take Medicaid?!! AWESOME!!! I used to live in PG, moved to Texas for 9 months, and now we're in American Fork, so that's really close to me. I went to the open house for the birth suite in 2010. I'll definitely have to contact her when it comes time. Thank you so much! I would have never asked her because I called another birth center and they said that no birth centers in Utah take Medicaid. So yay!

If they don't work out, I'm thinking about going up to Riverton Healthcare for Women, which I've heard is pretty good. And they only have 2 midwives so I think the care is much more personalized than with 8 midwives like at the Central Utah Clinic where I used to go.

    Thanks ladies!!!

I am pretty sure she accepts medicaid. I remember seeing a sign that said she did and then she added Cigna, our insurance but that got screwed up so we had to pay out of pocket. So I am pretty darn sure she takes medicaid clients. I bet the reason her BC doesn't come up with being covered is because she doesn't charge as a BC she charges as a midwife. She has a blanket midwife fee that covers everything whether it's a home birth or a BC birth. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask. I talked to her for about a year before I ever got pregnant. lol. I seriously <3 her! She is so awesome and really will work with you.

As for the Riverton Healthcare, Winky_the_HouseElf from the org is actually planning to have her baby there the end of this year. You could message her and ask her how they are.
