Introduce Yourself! (All members must participate!!)

Hi everyone!

As a part of our Board Guidelines we are asking for all members to take a moment to post a note of introduction on this thread along with a statement that says that you have read and agree to abide by both the Board (specific) and Community Guidelines of the site. You are asked to do this BEFORE you participate in other threads on this board. Your introduction may be as short or as detailed as you would like. Hosts will be monitoring to insure that all members have complied. Those failing to do so may find that their access to post on the board is restricted.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

I'm susan, i have two kids, and a hubby. Two dogs and three cats. Live in ithaca, ny, which is lovely and extremely liberal too, so we fit right in! Smile
i am extrememly liberal, so far to the left you need binoculars to see me. and an atheist. i am happy that way, despite being raised by a very baptist family.

I am Kathy, a sahm mom to two little girls. Former elementary teacher, in gifted program. Have been very liberal since childhood and, much to my dad's chagrin, have not changed one iota in my 40+ years. I am registered democrat.

I'm Collette, wife to Joe, mama to Grace(4) and Libby(3), elementary teacher who is teaching preschool till my girls are in school.
I was raised by ultra conservative Republican parents, my father is a minister. I always disagreed just quietly until my college years and beyond and now am outed as the single Liberal sheep in my family. Registered Dem.

I'm Alissa, 29, mommy to Tristan - 15 months, and to Ellie, our dog. Biggrin We live in a suburb outside of Denver, CO. I'm a registered democrat, married to Jon, a political independent. I was raised in an extremelt conservative Christian home, and DH was raised in a Jewish home (but they are democrats, woohoo LOL). We're both Atheists, to EVERYONE'S chagrin. LOL Hmmm....what else? I mod the Atheist/Agnostic Board and the General Debate Board. I'm pretty liberal, at least comparatively, but I do break away from some of my fellow libs on such issues as gun control and abortion. Sort of. I don't want to make abortion illegal, but I still can't reconcile that it's NOT taking a human life. Rather than making it illegal, I would like to cut down on as many abortions as possible by a) prevention - providing comprehensive sex ed and b) providing a social atmosphere that seeks to uplift women, rather than demonizing single mothers, and government programs that benefit women and children (example, UHC) So yeah. But I'm still pretty darn liberal. Biggrin

I'm Katra (see user ID ). I have 2 boys, Kyle & Ian, and super fantabulous DH, Karl. We live in (Stepford) Suburban Chicago, and actually like it here (I know, scary). DH and I love following politics, particularly our local politics. Our town puts out a weekly paper, and the best part is always the letters to the editor. Without fail, we have no less than 3 pages filled with letters. It's nice to see everyone stepping up and being involved, even if we don't all agree - and the letters sometimes read a bit more like a soap opera Lol

What else - hmmm.... DH and I are both registered Democrats, and quite proud of it. We consider our leaning to be Progressive. I'm the Democratic Precinct Committee for my district and Congressional Precinct Captain for my town. I'm up for election next year - so make sure you come over and vote for me. February 2, 2010, mmkay? ROFL I haven't always been a Democrat, though I do believe that's where my heart was (it's hard admitting something you were falsely raised to believe was evil). I grew up in a strict pentecostal and assemblies of god church and school. My dad is a pastor, so is my Uncle - all of my relatives are involved in church as some level. And then there's me... Always willing to push the envelope and make them think about what is being preached in accordance with the bible. That never went over well with my Uncle. But hey - my parents voted for Obama, so clearly something got through. My brother voted Obama as well - last year was the first year he was eligible to vote Biggrin For the first time in my life, politics is something that I can discuss in my parents home. Of course we always relate it back to the bible, but that's okay - Jesus would be a democrat anyway Lol

I have read the rules. I have been living by them for over 3 years now and have not yet been reprimanded so I guess that means I'm following them:-)

I'm Tara, dh is Terry. We have a 5 yo dd named Dylan and a 2 1/2 yo ds named Brody. Dd has Asperger's, ds has his evaluation on October 6. I therefore have a Mirena and will no longer be having human children:-) I currently have a cat, dog, turtle (he's 20 freaking years old!!!), and a chinchilla. I was born/raised in Philly where I got my bs and ms from Drexel University, met dh at Drexel when he was dating one of my pledge sisters (we're all still friends), we lived in Chicago for 3 1/2 years before we had dd so dh could get his PhD at Northwestern University in Geotechnical Engineering. Hence, we voted for Obama:-) My entire family is a bunch of teachers so I grew up in a democratic, Jewish, household. My FIL is retired from the government where he (many years ago) worked with Hilary Clinton the first time she tried to draft health care legislation. I am in good democratic company IRL. I used to think I was hell-liberal until I started hanging out with some of you guys and now I'm pretty sure I'm more moderate. Dh is even more moderate than I am, but I told him that I'd never have sex with him again if he didn't vote "correctly." I FIRMLY believe in a woman's right to choose and gun control laws and I HATE country music, so that pretty much means I'm going to be a democrat until the day I die:-)

I am Jessica, wife to Ken, mommy to Emily, 4 yrs old. I am an archaeologist in between official jobs, self employed as a sub-consultant studying animal bones from sites a previous employer's company excavated. I wasn't raised religious, but I was raised to be liberal and peace loving from a big time nature lovin' hippie. If being raised on the Beatles, John Denver, and MLK doesn't make you liberal, I don't know what will Wink DH was raised Southern Baptist, and was very unhappy with it. We both converted to Catholicism 3 years ago. We don't agree with every stance the Church takes, but it's so much better than what DH grew up with, and my experience with the baptist church as well.

In addition to DD, we have a lab mix, an English springer spaniel and a Siamese cat who rules our household.

I am Jillian (30) married to Gary (33). We have one son Grady Luke (2). We live in small town Alabama surrounded by a lot of people that don't share our views. My dad is retired Navy and my mom stayed home with me and my sister and brother. I still live 5 minutes away from my dad, but my mother passed away from breast cancer in 2003. She was my best friend. My husband is a welder and worked as a Union Pipefitter/Welder until 1.5 years ago. The job market forced him to work non union to avoid the traveling. Luckily he is close to home and the money is good enough that I can stay home with Grady. Health insurance is a big issue now though which is why I am a supporter of UHC. I think it is a moral issue and I make no bones about the fact that I think anyone who doesn't support UHC is a hateful person LOL!!

DH and I are both Atheists and we don't talk about that with any of our family (except my sister who is pretty much Atheist too). All of our family is pretty religious otherwise. Most of them are big hypocrites though Wink I was raised a southern Baptist and DH was raised with some baptist and some pentecostal influence. They are crazies. DH has always been skeptical, whereas I held on to some faith for many years. I have only recently felt comfortable stating my true beliefs. It is liberating! lol.

I love all types of music. I still like rap with lots of cuss words (can't help it). I love my DVR and without it I wouldn't be able to stay addicted to television. There isn't much time for tv with a 2 year old. I have made a few awesome birthday cakes recently and I think I might have a knack for it. I love facebook and perez hilton. I check both several times a day! I watch a lot of CNN and MSNBC. Not as much as I used too (2 year old issue again).

That's about it.

I'm Sandy, married to Noah for almost 10 years, and mommy to Lucas, 3 and Ryan, almost 1 years old.

Here are 10 things about me

1) I don't know when I became a "liberal" but I think I have always fought against the injustice of others.

2) I am a "Renthead" - which means I've seen the show Rent a lot. Like an embarresing amount of times. I am also a general theater geek.

3) I'm a grad student getting an MFA in Writing children's LIterature - I write primarily YA Fiction

4) I'm overweight and need to start working out again.

5) I spend way too much time online.

6) I grew up in Rhode Island, moved to MA - got married and we moved to Charlottesville, VA so that my hubby could get his PhD. As soon as he was done, we moved back to Mass and I'm so glad to be back in 'blue' country (though VA went blue this time WOO!)

7) My oldest was kicked out of preschool because they think he may be on the spectrum. So far, all his evaluations have proven otherwise.

Dirol I love reality tv.

9) I listen to more talk radio than music. My favorite is actually Opie and Anthony - who stand for everything I'm supposed to hate, but they make me laugh.

10) I have a crush on Jon Stewart.

Nice to meet you all!

I've read and will comply.

I'm Jess, 26, married to Wayne, 28. We have a two-year-old, Cooper. We live on the Western Slope of Colorado, but I'm originally from Colorado Springs, with a brief stint in Seattle when I was 20. I was planning on moving there permanently after I graduated college, but I met Wayne and now here we are. I'm a freelance writer for the time being because it lets me stay home with Cooper, and Wayne is a heavy-diesel mechanic.

I am addicted to pop culture, vampire fiction, and music from the 90s. I'm a vegetarian Atheist and a sucker for animals that need a home. Jillian is my online BFF, and probably knows me as well as anyone else, including my husband. Our boys were born five days apart and I am determined to eventually make a playdate happen for them, even though they live in different timezones. I am grateful for the interweb for giving me her, Perez Hilton and my liberal support system.

:love3: Okay you made me choke up! Did you know I was a big crybaby?

I have no idea what I would have done these past two years if we weren't friends?!! I really credit your friendship with helping me through the best and toughest two years of my life!!

Damn we are sweet.

My name is Lisa. I'm 37 with 2 kids and a husband. We live in Michigan. I grew up here and am a die-hard Michigan State Spartan. I've lived in Dallas and in Baltimore/DC. I was a third party recruiter (aka headhunter) for years and now use my free time coaching job seekers on finding employment opportunities the way recruiter's do.

I'm about as easy going as a person can get. It's almost impossible to offend me. I love honesty, no matter how ugly it is. I'm more upset by the polite who are fake than the rude who are honest. Different opinions fascinate me more than anything else. Always being around people with the same point of view or values bores me to an extent. I'm nosy as the day is long. I want to know as much about people as I can and understand where they are coming from. I can't seem to stop myself from inserting my opinion in sticky situations and trying to be the voice of reason. As much as I appreciate different opinions, I hate it when people fight because of them. Fighting makes me very uncomfortable. I never fight. NEVER. I'm incapable of pulling if off.

Most of you know, I am a true moderate. I can identify with Dems and Reps. It all depends on the issue at hand. I hate the idea of a two party system. It sometimes leaves me feeling I don't belong anywhere, when I suppose I should view it as belonging everywhere.

I read the rules and I agree to follow them.

My name is Renee (Nay) and I am in the Atlanta area, but grew up in the Detroit area. My primary job is working as a firefighter/paramedic (with a BSN) and as soon as the city pension is vested, I am done! I am currently in a Physician Asst program at Emory School of Medicine, and I hope to career transition into working part time so I can be there for the kidlets.

DH (Tom) is currently an Assistant Fire Chief for another muncipality in this area, we do not work on the same paid dept. We both belong to the same part time dept and work opposing schedules at times. He also teaches for NFA and FEMA.

I have 6 kiddys via adoption, and my main job when I get home from work is Laundry Mountain with washer/dryer on both floors going.....and answer the infamous question of "Mommy, I am hungry when are we going to eat?"

My me time is now my 20 min of silence when I get home from work, and my son announces to the household that I am in time out and to leave me alone....

Hobbies: cooking, sewing, quilting, reading, sleeping is no longer a necessary function, it is now officially a hobby with me.

I am Catholic, I come from a huge extended familywith 91 first cousins and only one sibling. My poltical leanings have always spanned both parties, I try to see things from both parties view, but usually I end up on the Democratic side.

I read and agree to the rules and guidelines, too bad you don't know at what percentage though!! muahahahaha!

My name is Deniz and I have one little boy, Jace. I am very, very, very, liberal and would love to live in a world with rainbows, gay marriage, and sunflower seeds along with peace signs as currency. I am very sarcastic and like to joke around with people. I have a crush on President Barack Obama. The end.

My name is Jessi, I am from GA. I married to Matt, and DS Sam (4/21/09) so a new mommy hear! And I am so typically the new mom!

Living in GA, especially the small town we live in, there are possibly 10% democrat/liberal? Maybe. I look forward to getting to know you all and forming some friendships with people that lean more toward my morals!

I've read and will follow the guidelines!

I'm Kim. I'm 32 years old and am from Upstate NY, however my husband and I just moved our family to Maine! We have four kiddos, Emma (8 ), Aodhan (6), Lillian (4) and Nathalie (2), and we are expecting another girl in January!

I"m a computer programmer and I now work remotely, with little company all day so the bulletin boards are a great outlet for me! I'm a practicing Catholic, however I have come to terms with those things the Church teaches that I do not agree with. I'm happy I've found a balance in my life where my faith is always there for me and provides a solid place for me to ground my beliefs...but it doesn't do my thinking for me.

I would consider myself a 'very left leaning moderate'...depending on the actual issue at hand, i could be anywhere on the scale...but for most things i would say at least a little liberal. I'm very opinionanted and argumentative...but try hard not to be rude.

On the more light-hearted side, I love to knit and want to learn how to sew/quilt! I hate cooking, but enjoy baking....and LOVE eating. Smile I love watching TV but try not to let myself watch too much. My favorite shows are House, Lost, Big Bang Theory. There are a ton of others though that I watch at least semi-regularly!

I could keep rambling, but I won't bore you! Just as a warning, I make TONS of typos...some of them are ridiculous. I look back after I've posted and wondered how anyone can make sense of what I wrote sometimes. I type too fast for my brain i think, or maybe its the other way around, not sure! I fix what I can...but if something looks really bizarre...just don't mind me, i probably just wasn't paying attention.

Hi all. I'm Lana, wife to Dan and mom to 8yo DD Lillian and 5 yo Daniel. I've been a way for a bit, but I've been around here for quite some time. Not sure what to say that won't make me sound like a total snooze fest. I'll piggy back off Sandy's good idea to do the list of 10 things but maybe ammend it to be 10 things most people don't know about me.....

1. Have to start off with the fact that I've castrated a pig and collected the sperm from a stalllion and inseminated a mare with it. The worst part was that they made us wear a helmet to tease and collect the stud, so on top of the whole situation, I looked like a total dork.

2. I sing really really loud in the car and it's usually to musicals. Not only do I sing, but I do a whole performance. I'm like Mama Rose on stage, final scene, but in a mini van.

3. I have low self-esteem.

4. I love reality tv.

5. I'm incredibly indecisive. I've been known to go into The Home Store and walk around for 2 hours, picking up and putting down stuff trying to make up my mind and then leave with nothing. It's pretty bad.

6. I always get hurt in the stupidest ways. I broke my toe showing the dog how to jump over a stool by demonstrating how to do it. I broke my tooth playing lights off tag. I broke it a second time by mimicing a growling dog. And I have a scar on my lip from when I was attacked by a vicious.....rooster. Seriously.

Couldn't think of 4 more. I was going to put that I think Patrick Stewart is way sexy, but I was scared I'd get kicked off the board as an embarrassment to my political party.

LOL The honest answer is, I have no idea. Being a dork really. The worst was having to tell everyone because you know they were all going to ask the inevitable question..."How'd ya break your toe?" Hi all. I read and agree.

My name is Sarah and I'm an American living in Denmark. My husband is Danish and in the Danish Navy so we're here indefinitely, but I still vote in the US, and my heart is still there! I've been a Democrat since I registered to vote when I was 18 (well, technically even before that). My parents are also on the left, but I have a super Christian extended family, so I guess my parents were the ones to break rank. I've been at least somewhat involved in the labor movement in the US and abroad for about 10 years- I'm getting my PhD in Cultural Anthropology from UCLA and my focus is on unions.

I have a daughter, Freja (pronouced Freya), who is 11 months, a 4.5 year old step-daughter, Victoria, and a wonderful husband, Jesper (pronounced Yespa). I've just started work on my dissertation after taking a year off. I'm not so sure I can do it at this point, but we'll see.

Hi all! My name is Melissa and I'm going on 24. I am happily married to a soon-to-be CPA named Jordan who is also going on 24. We have an almost 2 year old little drama queen named Kaley. We live in Jacksonville, Florida. I was raised Southern Baptist and republican but I am now agnostic and pretty moderate mostly leaning Democrat these days. I am pretty much Democrat but I haven't been able to admit it yet. Blame it on how I was raised. My husband considers himself Libertarian. I cuss a lot, I am a wine *****, and I love to watch funny and scary movies. I am addicted to FB and I love to cook! I am currently a SAHM but every once in a while I help my friend out with her business. We just bought our first house and it's so exciting. We are getting the hang of landscaping and house projects. Smile I have never seen snow and I have a horrible temper. Usually once a day I lock myself in a bathroom and put the shower on so I don't have to hear my daughter throw a fit over me not singing twinkle twinkle little star for the 802nd time before noon. Sometimes I put a little bit of Kahlua in my morning coffee too. Wink I pretty much wear yoga pants 24/7 because I'm still trying to lose like 50 lbs that I gained when preggo. We don't want any more kids EVER. My dad passed of lung cancer in June and my mom is currently re-living her teenage years at the age of almost 50. I love hard rock, older country, and all kinds of other music. I like baseball, football, and softball. All of that + beer and I'm happy. I play softball for my husbands work and I am usually playing short stop or pitching. I stay up way too late and get up way too early. Story of my freaking life.

Oops, sorry did not see I was supposed to post here first. This must have been added in my absence. I have read and agree

I am Drake who just turned 29, married to my DH Finn for 6 years. We have one son hawkes who will be three next month and one on the way. We are currently both graduate students, but should be finishing our degrees soon. I am working on my masters in scientific illustration and am writing and illustrating a children's guide to midwestern streams. I want to write and illustrate children's nature/ science books when I finsih. DH is working on his PhD in wildlife ecology. he is looking at the effect of different grazing management strageies on grassland birds. He will be done this spring and hopes to teach at a private high school or a small teaching college. I do not get much time or hobbies between school and parenting but when I do I love to read, especially ya, fantasy, and chick lit and I am a quilter, knitter, and do crossstich and needle point. I love textile arts. We have two cats, Tequilla and Macey, a beta fish, and a hermit crab.

As to my political leanings, I am way liberal and always have been and was raised by a very liberal family. I usually call myself liberal rather than Democrat since in general the democratic party is not liberal enough for me on certain issues such as gay rights. I used to registered Green until I moved to Iowa where I registered Democrat so I could participate in the caucauses. DH and I both born and raised Episocopalians from liberal churches so religion and my politics have never been a conflict for me.

I inadvertently butted in before introducing myself. I apologize for that.

I'm a young widow (well, I'm not an old widow, anyhow) that has too much time on her hands and a ridiculous fascination for Constitutional law lately.

My husband and I didn't have any children. I had a touch of cervical cancer when I was 26, and the surgery necessary to remove the cancer caused me to have an incompetent cervix. I could get pregnant, but I could never stay pregnant. After a few years and a lot of heartache, I resigned myself to the idea of being the "cool aunt" to all of my nieces and nephews, and not having any children of my own. I share my home with an elderly Cocker Spaniel. Yes, I'm one of those.

I have a very dear friend who is having problems with polycystic ovaries, and I'm hoping that I will pick up some information that will help her conceive the baby she so desperately wants.

Welcome Rose! Would you say you are a liberal or a democrat or both? I am a very liberal democrat. Dirol

I am Mary (29 will be 30  in about 2 weeks). DH is 36. We are both democrat. I am more liberal than him. I grew up in a Lutheran democrat family. I like to refer to myself as a Christian. I am not a big believer in organized religion, although I will go to church. I would just prefer to worship in my own way. DH grew up in a very strict Assembly of God republican family. In fact even now, we do not really talk about politics as they think that our beliefs are wrong and theirs is right. I am far more liberal than the rest of my family. I believe that gays have a right to marry and have all the rights that straight couples do. I do not believe some lawmaker should be able to tell me what I can do with my body although I would never have an abortion. I like to tell my mother that she is the most Republican Democrat I have ever met, she is a extremely moderate.

I am a HUGE fan of Big Bang Theory, Amazing Race, Big Brother, and Hell's Kitchen. DH and I just moved into my Grandparents house. You might as well say that we own it without having the papers to show that we do yet. We have been TTC for seven years with no luck. We both are managers at Wendy's and if all works out well we will both be going back to college in the fall of 2011. I am going to be going to school to be a Certified Nurse Midwife and DH is going to study Auto Mechanics.

I think I have rambled enough. Any questions, feel free to ask!! Looking forward to getting to know you ladies!!

Hi everyone! My name is Donna. I am a SAHM living in So. Cal. I am originally from Arizona, so as you can guess I have a lot of republican friends and family. I would consider myself a moderate with a left lean, but lately I just can't find anything on the right that I agree with. It just gets crazier and crazier.

I was raised Catholic, and it was at my Catholic high school (12th grade government) that I realized I was not a republican like I had claimed for so long. It was also there that I figured out that I believe in God but not organized religion, much to the chagrin of my family.

My husband is a social liberal, fiscal conservative, but we agree on every issue usually. He is also a lawyer, so he knows constitutional law better than I do so he is a good source of information for me when I need clarification. Smile He is also an AMAZING husband and father, I have no idea how I got so lucky.

I am obsessed with gay marriage rights, universal health care, reasonable governmental regulation of corporations, University of Arizona basketball, my family and Buffalo Wild Wings. I love listening to and downloading new music from itunes, but when I am in the car I usually stick to Progressive talk radio. Gotta love Stephanie Miller. I have a bachelors degree in Business Marketing and Early Childhood Education.

I guess that is all for now. Oh also, I am super sarcastic and am currently trying to design a sarcasm font.

I leave you with this quote from George Clooney:

"For some reason, we've gotten to this place where liberal is a bad word again, which is truly insane. Look at American history. Start with the Salem witch hunt. The conservative view was, "Well, they're all witches and they should be burned at the stake." But the liberal view was, "Maybe there aren't any such things as witches." Liberals thought that women should be allowed to vote. We thought it'd be okay for blacks to sit at any lunch counter they wanted and wherever they liked on a public bus. We thought that'd be all right. We've always been on the right side of history eventually. So I don't understand how you lose the moral argument."

Hey ladies! My name is Pam. I am excited to (re) join this board. I have been on p.org for a long time. I've been on the TTC boards, the loss, boards, and the pregnancy boards. I have posted on this board on and off. But, I'll admit, it has been quite awhile.

Let's see . . . what can I tell you about myself? I have been married to my husband, Rob, for 12 years. I have three children: Jackson (7), Camille (3), and Kaitlyn (1). We live in southwest Ohio. I am a lawyer and Rob is an in home salesman at Lowe's. He has a degree in building construction management. He used to be a project manager for a commercial construction company until he got laid off.

As far as my political leanings, I am very far left wing. I am probably a socialist. I am, however, a life long democrat. I've never voted for a republican for any national office. I have voted for a handful of republicans for local judges. But, that was only because I personally knew the candidates and knew the republican would be the better judge.

I was totally pro-Hillary during the democratic primaries in the last election. I did, however, vote for Obama in the general election. But, I am disappointed in Obama on so many levels. It will be hard for me to vote for him again.

I am also an atheist. My Dh, however, wants the kids to go to church. So, you may catch me taking them. *sigh* Marriage is all about compromise, huh?

Not sure what to say in my intro. Obviously, I'm a Democrat. I volunteered for and donated to Obama's presidential campaign, and while he's certainly not perfect, I think he's doing a great job with what he was handed.
