Breaking the Habit

I posted on the The Anything Topic board suggestions for getting Faith to stop sucking her thumb. I think it was my way of "talking out loud". LOL Anyway it came to me in discussion that I needed to reapproach breaking Faith of this habit much like I did the boys of the paci. Well I put on a bandaid and she's not happy about it, but I do think we are making progress (as much as you can make in an hour period of time lol).

Do any of you have to break LO from a bad habit? If so share your tips here.

With Cooper so far it's just the sucky. And he held on to it waaaaaay longer than I thought he would after I started cutting it. Turkey!

With Sierra, she doesn't really have bad habits, but she does have "nervous" habits that I think are harder to break than stuff like suckies and thumb-sucking. She clears her throat constantly, and does this wierd thing with her face. She also used to sniff her nose all the time too. Drove me up the freakin' wall.

I hope the band-aid works for you, I don't really have any advice for you. I would guess it's much harder than to break them of something when it's attached to them!

I don't have any helpful hints or advice, Mason still sucks his thumb, but pretty much only when he goes to sleep. When he goes down in his crib, whether its for a nap or the night, the thumb goes in his mouth and his other hand goes down his pants. Honestly, I'd rather break him of the hand in the pants because he grabs his wang and pulls it up so that its pointing out the top of his diaper, and then when he pees none of it gets in his diapers instead it just soaks his clothes and sheets!

Is there a reason you are trying to break her of the habit already? Kaylin sucks her thumb, mostly when she is sleepy. Her Pedi said it's not a concern teeth-wise until around 3 or so. I think it's cute, and it works for us at the moment. She's always been a 'sucker' both while breastfeeding and now on the thumb so I know it's a big comfort to her.

I don't mean to laugh, but I can't help it Smile Cooper goes aorund naked a lot now due to the attempts at PTing, and he CONSTANTLY has his thing in his hands LOL!! We are always reminding him that it won't fall off if he lets go Smile

I apologize I'm laughing too. I'd want to break that too. If for no other reason than to control the laundry.

I use to suck my thumb until I was in the 4th grade and I had friends in high school who at the age of 18 still sucked their thumb. At that age it's not so cute. It was a bad habit that if I can break her of it now it will be that much easier (waiting longer only makes the habit harder to break) and will spare her some embarassment. (She actually sucks it ALL THE TIME.) I don't worry about the teeth thing. I actually have amazingly straight teeth. They might have other problems but they are straight. My 18yo's orthodontist even asked me if I've had braces when I was younger.
