Braxton-Hicks

For all you experienced mommies, what do Braxton-Hicks feel like? Last night I was sitting on the couch and my uterus got tight (no pain) I just thought it was the babies head. When I felt the same spot it was soft. Baby definitely didn't move because I feel everything right now. Was that my first BH?

Sounds kind of what mine feel like. It just feels like everything gets really tight for a little while. I have been having them for a few weeks now. Didn't really get them too much with the other two.

You will feel tightening and it will feel a little harder than normal.

Mine feel very tight all over the front of my tummy and almost make me feel like it is hard to breath for a bit. They last a few minutes usually. Sometimes I will have several in a row. I wouldn't say they hurt, but they are uncomfortable!

Mine feel exactly like how she described them. I kinda stop in my tracks for a few seconds. But they don't really hurt. I've been having them on and off for about 2 weeks now.

Are there certain movements which can trigger them? Usually when I get out of the car or stand up after sitting for a bit I feel a sudden tightening all over my abdomen. Maybe this is something completely different though.

Thanks ladies! I guess it was my first BH. I'm getting nervous!

abby, what you described is exactly what my BH contractions felt like during my first pregnancy. it's exciting when you start feeling them! this time around my BH contractions have been lasting longer and are more uncomfortable (take my breath away sometimes for a minute), but my MW said it is normal to have more/stronger BH with subsequent pregnancies because your uterus is more "responsive" to any little trigger.

and amy, i know exactly what you mean about the tight feeling when standing up after sitting in one position for a while. i get that, too. i also get it when i get out of bed to pee at night. i have to sort of waddle to the bathroom because my belly cramps up when i stand up out of bed. i guess i don't know if those are contractions or not...

I had quite a few yesterday. I think stress and the cold made them more frequent. But no pain at all....

I find I get them when I walk too quickly. They go away quickly and don't hurt. I had my husband put his hand on my belly when I was having one and it worried him!

I definitely feel them more when I walk too fast. My husband laughs at me because I'm such a pokey when I walk but I have to be, LOL! I've had them off and on since I was around 5 months and I'm noticing now that aside from walking, I will get them for no particular reason at all, even when I'm just laying down. I'm afraid this baby is going to fall out when the time comes!

I agree with all the PP. I get them when I go from sitting down to standing up. I almost have to stop and catch my breath, and they get so tight. I got to see the BHs occuring with the toco when I was in L&D, which was kind of cool to see the difference in shape and intensity relative to those in "real labor." I don't even want to know what those feel like at the peak...
