Flu Shot

Just curious how many of you will be getting the flu shot this season. The last flu shot I got was over 10 years ago, and knock on wood I've never gotten the flu. My doctors haven't mentioned it yet, but I'm sure they will be at one of my next appointments. Anyway, just curious what the rest of you are doing.

I'm not sure what I'll do. Like you, I haven't had a flu shot in forever. My doctor hasn't said anything about it yet, but if she recommends that I get it then I probably will. I don't know...it seems like every time I've gotten a flu shot I wind up getting sick!

Same here. The one year I got the shot (which was 12 years ago), I ended up sick for a good 3-5 days.

I work around lots of VERY sick people, so I will probably get it just to add another layer of protection for me Smile

I don't really believe in the flu shot, or the lottery!, so no shot for me. It's just a guess if you will come into contact with those particular strains. Having said that, Heidi, if I worked around sick people all day long I would totally get it. Your odds are pretty good of contacting all kinds of people with the flu. I think it just depends on how much you interact with the general public.

i'll get the flu shot at my next appointment in a couple weeks. DS and DH already got theirs this past week. it is a guessing game as far as whether the vaccine will protect from the particular strains going around, but i've never had a reaction to the shot and i've gotten it every year it's been available. i've also not had the flu in those years. since DH works in a hospital with sick people, he is exposed to everything imaginable and brings home all kinds of germs. half of his residency class came down with swine flu the first fall it was going around (before there was any vaccine for it) but luckily DH was spared (and stuck working extra shifts to cover for all the sick people!). i was also worried about getting swine flu when i was pregnant with DS1 because i was working in an emergency room at the time and we were seeing pregnant women get admitted to the hospital because of it. so i'll take any extra protection i can get!

I totally agree with you! I normally DON'T get it, but this being my first winter as a nurse and working on the floor I do, I figured I better Smile

I'm too afraid to get one. I haven't had one in YEARS and have been fine. I may get a mild case every few years but it's okay. I'm just afraid of it causing me to be sick because I hear that happens so often.

I definitely got the shot. I think the risk of the flu far outweighs the risk of the shot. I don't think people realize how deadly the flu can be or that it can affect the fetus and even cause Schizophrenia in the child when they are older. I work in a nursing home with immune-compromised patients so it's a must for me. My daughter and my DH also got their shots already.

I won't be gettingone. My sister was a pharmacetical Tech before she went into Nautral health and wellness. She is against the flu shot (and I do trust her opinion more than most Dr's). Both my Husband and I are against it.

I had H1N1 2 years ago. I was sick for a week, but I haven't been sick since. I think the changes in my diet have helped with that.

To each there own though. Everyone has to make decision that is best for them.

No, I'm not getting the flu shot. There are just too many strands to make it worthwhile.
