Glucose Test Today *UPDATED...failed*

I'm leaving in just a few minutes to go do my glucose test. I'm so glad to be getting this out of the way before the holidays...now let's just pray that I pass!

I have mine at my next appointment. I am SOOO not looking forward to having it done. I failed the one hour with dd2 and the 3 hour was no fun at all! The only good thing was I got all my Christmas cards done. Smile

I'm really hoping I pass. I've never had to do anything but the 1 hr with either of my other pregnancies, so hoping the same holds true for this one too.

Good Luck! I have mine at my 28 week appt. I have FAILED both one hours with my girls but passed the 3-hours with flying colors. So my plan this time?? FAST before the 1-hr. Smile

Ugh, I didn't pass. So, now I have to go back tomorrow for the stupid 3 hour test. Thankfully DH is on vacation this week so he can watch DD. I'm wishing I asked the nurse what my levels were because I'm not sure if I failed miserably or just a little, so I have no idea what my chances are of passing the 3 hr. I've never had to do this before...any advice? I had a feeling that even if my numbers came back borderline that they would make me do the 3 hr test simply because of my history of having big babies.

Ugh!!! How frustrating! It sounds like it's pretty easy to fail the test. I'm wondering if I would fare better taking the test in the morning after having not eaten during the night opposed to the afternoon after lunch.

Isn't that when your supposed to take it? First thing in the morning without eating anything? Mine is next week and that is what my Dr told me to do...

Mine is currently scheduled in the afternoon in a couple of weeks. I wasn't given any guidelines in regards to not eating beforehand. I might switch it to the morning.

well i am not sure that it matters if you eat before hand or not. I had mine in the morning with DD. They make you drink that god awful mixture and wait an hour. That I guess is to see with how your body copes with the lovely sugar that they fill it with.

I think if you want to check my sugar wait until after I craved and finish a whole box of cookies. (LOL)

In all seriousness I hope that everyones tests go well but don't stress over them too much, stress can do so much damage to your body during pregnancy. If it worries you that yours is in the afternoon call and ask about whether you should fast or not.

They probably don't want you to tho because how accurate is a sugar test on a large fast? That can be just as bad as over eating...makes the numbers less accurate.

**Lurker** the three houtlr isn't horrible.....but I remember eating some protein about an hour before I went. I passed the 1st bloodtime draw but thenI failed all threeabout draws after thethe sugar drink. I didwill feel like crap. Make sureher you bring something that will help pass the time. Good luck and I hope you pass the 3hr test....for what its worth I had GD and I mointered it with diet and excersise.

Is there more than just one blood draw for the 3 hr test? I was hoping I wasnt gonna have to hang out at the dr office the whole time, but I assumed there was just one blood draw at the 3 hour mark.

They do the initial draw then one every hour. My dr's office made me stay there, since I didn't have any kids with me it was like a little 3 hour vacation. Smile I'm sorry you failed I hope you pass the 3 hour one.

As I mentioned in my first post I have failed the 1-hour with both my babies but passed the 3-hr's with flying colors. So....now that I am experienced at that (lol) I decided to do my appt. first thing in the morning so I could fast and see if that changes the result. They do not tell you to fast, however if you have to do the 3-hr you DO have to fast and trust me once that sugar crap sets in (it's twice the 1-hr amount of sugar) ya don't feel the greatest. SO.....wish us all luck! Smile

My doctor told me to fast since midnight the night before. My test is scheduled in the am. That's what I did the last pregnancy too. Maybe that's the problem, you ate before the test?

Yeah My Dr explained to me that if you eat before you test and drink that mixture you are already raising your blood sugar. So if you go in with an elevated blood sugar, then drink the drink, you run the risk of really elevating which would give a falso positive (meaning you have to take the test again).

If you fast and then take the test, you are going in with a lower blood sugar, and the drink should only raise it a bit, making the test more conclusive.

Being hypoglycemic most my life, it makes sense to me. At least by fasting first, you will know if the results are accurate, because if you gfast, then fail, you know something is really up...not just from the meal you ate before hand...

Best of luck ladies. Mine is next week!

For the 1-hr test, my doc gave me the bottle of stuff to drink so I just have to go into the office in the morning after the hour is up for the draw. The bottle clearly states on it to fast for 10 hours. The doctor said only to drink water during the fast.

Yeah,I'm kind of wishing I had scheduled my 1 hr test in the morning and fasted prior to. My doctor specifically told me that I didn't have to fast, so I ate lunch right before I left for my test...wonder if that had anything to do with failing?? Although, my fasting blood draw on my 3 hr test also came back elevated, so who knows.

AH! I made my appt for 1:30 because of scheduling issues with the kids and my OB is kind of a rock star and hard to get appts even a month in advance. I can't fast all day, what should I eat that day to keep my blood sugar low? I'll re-read the earlier post about sugars, but any other thoughts?
