Hair

In my other pregnancies, my hair was fabulous. This time, it's falling out left and right. I put my hair in a pony last night and I was able to wrap the rubber band around 3 times instead of the normal 2. I'm starting to get worried. My prenatal vitamin has Biotin in it but what else can I do? Sad

I seem to have this same issue at the beginning and post partem. I think it's hormonal and there really isn't much that you can do. I do know that it does all grow back in. Since I have super thick hair this has never really been an issue.

I don't normally have problems in the pregnancy, it's about 3 months post-partum that it starts falling out A LOT!

Have you had your thyroid checked yet? Sometimes pregnancy makes it go wacky, and that can make your hair fall out. (Then again, it could just be hormones, as the ladies say!)

your doc probably checked thyroid if you had a blood draw at your first appointment...that's a good thought. my hair is fabulous, but my skin is terrible! and, yeah, all this fabulous hair i'm growing will fall out in clumps while i'm breastfeeding.

I actually haven't had my thyroid checked since being pregnant but it's always been perfect. I don't believe it is part of the prenatal profile tests ran at the lab. I will mention it to him at my next appointment though, which is on the 13th. I hate to wash or even brush my hair because I'm losing SO much each time. It seriously makes me want to cry. I really hope it levels out soon because at this rate, I'll be bald by the time the baby comes.

My face is a mess, too. Mostly around my chin. I was actually using OTC stuff until I read that it can be bad for the baby. Since then I've been using plain ol' Dove soap on my face twice a day and it actually seems to be helping. I think the OTC stuff was actually so drying that it was making things worse because my skin was producing more oil to compensate.

Uhoh! What OTC stuff is bad? I've been using it too.

At first I was using a product by Neutrogena but it had salicylic acid in it, which I read isn't safe. Then I was using Acne Free, the stuff that is supposed to be just like ProActive. Acne Free has benzoyl peroxide, but everything says not to use ProActive, which also has benzoyl peroxide, so now I just don't want to use anything OTC.

I would consider going to see a dermatologist for both your face and hair to see if they can get you something that works

Thanks. I've been using both but not often.

With both pregnancies I've lost a lot of hair. If I remember correctly, I think it gets better after the first trimester. Then it happened again after the baby.

*** ACNE UPDATE ***

At my last appointment my doctor prescribed me Clindamycin for my face. It's been about a week and a half now and my face is starting to clear up. So, if anyone is really suffering from a pizza face right now, ask your doctor about this. It's a cheap prescription (mine was $10) and it's definitely helping me. Just wanted to share. Smile
