Sooooo Constipated!! (TMI)

I have had the worst day because I'm so incredibly constipated. I've NEVER had it this bad before. I am literally swollen down below from pushing so hard and my tailbone hurts, too. I asked my sister (a nurse) what to do and she said I can take Dulcolax (it's what they give in the hospital after babies are born) so I took 2 this morning and still nothing (said it can take 12 to 72 hours to work). I even drank 2 glasses of prune juice. What else can I do to get things moving now? I am sooooo uncomfortable. Sad

I am feeling your pain, literally! I have felt the same way off and on for the past week.....this is my fourth baby and never experienced it before. I guess it's a trade off cause I had really bad morning sickness/ all day sickness for weeks and finally when that ended I started with this Sad ...... Good thing it is all worth it! Wink

i'm dealing with that, too, but i'm pretty sure mine is a side effect of the zofran i'm taking to try to conquer the constant vomiting! so, i'm hopeful that when the vomiting stops and i stop the zofran, the constipation will go away, too! in the meantime, i just try to deal with the cramping and discomfort as well as i can. don't push it too hard, because you don't wanna end up with hemorrhoids! hope the dulcolax kicks in for you soon, and then maybe try a fiber supplement every day to try to prevent it from happening again. my OB suggests fiber every day and stool softeners as needed.

Ugh, sorry you ladies are going through it too. Yeah, it seems that my morning sickness is easing up a bit but now I have this issue. Boooo. I already do have hemorrhoids unfortunately, and this has caused them to bleed. I'm definitely going to incorporate something daily so once this passes it won't happen again. Not a fun time right now.

I had constipation with my second pg. It was the brand of prenatal I was taking. I switched to something else and felt a million times better. This time I'm taking generic store prenatal and they are working awesome. HTH!

I thought about that. I'm using One a Day Prenatal. Do you think that's why? I'm not taking any extra iron yet either. It's morning and still nothing. Ugh.

I second the Milk of Magnesia. I had a little problem in the beginning of this pregnancy and I took MoM once and it definitely helped. Poor thing...hope you feel better soon.

I can relate, I've had it a little bit with all of my pregnancies! My only worry is "pushing too hard". I know it is tmi, but it worries me that it will hurt the baby. I havent been that bad lately, but I have been drinking lots of fluids. Hope you feel better soon. Smile

Okay, I will try some MoM after work. I'm going to attempt to go to work tonight (skipped it last night because I was too uncomfortable) because I'm not in as much pain. I just hope nothing kicks in there. Thanks, ladies!

Good luck with the MoM! I have had bad constipation w this pregnancy, but something still manages to come out. In the past I have had incredible non- pregnancy related constipation....I honestly just tried to keep myself busy and distracted so I wouldn't think about it once I had done all I could do.

I finally got some relief. Little by little, but it's coming.

That really is miserable. I'm glad that your feeling a little better, maybe ask your doc about a lower iron prenatal?

That's a good idea, Lindsay. I definitely will talk to him about it. Smile

I get it off an on. I find that prune juice, Lots of fruits, lots of veggies and LOTS of water (Natures own ditoxifier) help (More than 2 Litres a day). Also get hubby to rub your belly counter clock wise on the left hand side by the pelvis bone. I find when there is a hard lump there massaging it helps move things along.

I hope it clears up for you. I know how uncomfortable it can be.

Ok this is a little TMI but if you can feel it coming out but it feels "stuck" press gently on the skin between hole #1 and hole #2 down there. Not actually on the "holes" - I find that sometime helps to.

Sorry, I know, TMI....

Lurking

I recently went through that and MoM just caused me tons of pain. The best thing I did was I took 1 Colace every night before bed, upped my water and started walking 30 minutes a day. After a week of using the Colace I was able to stop and just do the water/walking. Now I rarely have issues.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the tips! Not sure I want to do the pressing thing but if it ever gets that bad again, I'll do anything as long as it's safe for the baby I suppose, LOL.

I heard a remedy for this last night. Sounds gross to me, but it might be worth it. 1/2 a cup of prune juice and 1/2 a cup of 7-up, microwave for 30 sec, and drink. My friend swears by it. She said 2 times a day until you are back to normal.
