I have a dreaded cavity and am heading to the dentist tomorrow. I forgot to tell them I'm pregnant and now they are closed so I'll have to call first thing in the morning.

Anyway have you ever been to the dentist pregnant? What do they do differently?

I have been to the dentist while pregnant. They just did a cleaning and opt to not to fill 2 cavities that I had. They gave me an appt about a month after birth to fill it. They rather not do any dental work other than cleaning while you are pregnant, unless it is really really necessary. While pregnant your blood supply increases and you bleed more than usual on routine procedures.

I've only had a cleaning while pregnant as well. A friend of mine had a cavity but they said they couldn't fill it until after the baby was born so they opted to pull the tooth instead because it was causing her so much pain she couldn't wait until after. Than again she's extremely dramatic lol

I called this morning. They are going to call my OB and get a release from them. I don't know what they will do when I go in but we will see.

I had a root canal while pg. Mostly they just need the dr to say there aren't any complications and they won't give you any cool pain meds if you were to need them.. which you wouldn't for a cavity.

The numbing med (lanicain?) wore off toward the end and they weren't comfy giving me more.

I had my left upper wisdom tooth pulled. It needed to come out anyway because there isn't room for it so he just did it ( after spending ten minutes on the phone with my OB). I'm in pain but it isn't horrible yet. I wish I could take the good stuff but Tylenol it is !

My dentist was really nice and made me feel extremely comfortable by explaining exactly what he was doing and what would be different because I am pregnant. His wife is also pregnant and he told me he had to do work on her in her first trimester which made me feel better.

DH is off to get me mashed potatoes and soup Smile

I'm doing much better. The pain lasted a couple days but luckily wasn't too bad. I took Tylenol and it actually helped a lot.

I just had a root canal last week because it was absolutely necessary. My primary dentist asked for a release from the OB and then when he looked at it and determined that it needed to be fixed ASAP, he referred me to a local endodontist because he was booked for the next 2 weeks. The endodontist needed the release too but said he would be more comfortable waiting until the second tri but given the amount of pain I was in, he left the decision up to me.

I literally could not eat anything because of the pain so I had to have it done. The OB actually okay'd tylenol 3 for me but I just stuck with regular tylenol and I was fine.

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better! Tooth pain is awful!
