Need some advice... (long)

Hello Ladies - I've been having some issues.

In late January, I started bleeding, which I thought was odd because I just had my period two weeks before that. Then I got sick with a cold. I dragged myself into the bathroom to take a pregnancy test, only because I was wondering what in the world was going on. It tested positive, immediately. About 5 days later, sex was extremely painful. I begged the doc for an u/s and they acted like everything was fine. Turns out, it wasn't. I had an ectopic. They gave me shots of MTX, even though my HCG level sky rocketed up to 13900, but the shots worked all the way back down to 303 hcg. Then I had to stop going. I never took a preg test since then, just to see if my HCG level went back down to zero and now I'm kicking myself for it.

I took a preg test Monday and it was positive, immediately. I knew it would be - my boobs were killing me and they only get like that when I'm pregnant. Thing is, I have this weird pain on my left side. I've HAD the pain ever since I had the ectopic pregnancy and I don't know if it hurts more or if I'm just hyper aware of it now because of the pregnancy or what, but it's definitely more there. I'm not bleeding or spotting. With my ectopic and my chemical, I was bleeding when I found out I was pregnant. The "pain" isn't even really a pain. It's almost like a throbbing and sometimes it doesn't bother me at all.

Has anyone else experience pain from an ectopic months down the road? I'm so scared it's another ectopic. All I can think is that my previous ectopic blocked THIS egg from rolling down the tube and now THIS egg is growing in there too! I know it's a good sign I'm not bleeding.. and I get fantastic bouts of nausea that just come out of the blue and then go away in a few minutes (which didn't occur with the other pregnancies BUT my stomach hurts a lot anyway).. but this peculiar uncomfortable feeling on my left side has me worried.

The doctor has to wait until next week.. just would like some reassurance I guess. Thanks ladies

I don't have any exp with ectopic pregnancies, but the non-bleeding sounds like everything is going well. I think I have heard others with ectopic pregnancies say that their doc told them to wait a year before TTC again, but I might be wrong.

The way they treated you last time (ignoring and all), I hope you find a new provider. I love that my OB does an u/s on every appt, he has his own private office and has the machine. It gives me greater peace of mind, knowing that he can see exactly what is going on as the baby grows, rather than the usual only 2 to 3 u/s performed in most pregnancies. If I was in your situation I would try to look for a small private OB office that isn't dependent on big hospitals for major testing (bloodwork and u/s).

Like Aurora, I have no personal experience with ectopic pregnancies. I do have experience, though with pregnancies and pregnancies that did not go well. My advice would be to schedule an appointment for an ultrasound immediately. Your local crisis pregnancy center might be willing to do it, and they could probably get you in faster than any traditional provider. On the one hand, as you know, ectopics involve pain on the side where the pregnancy is. On the other hand, my experience is that I have the most cramping in the 1st tri on the side where I ovulated (I don't know if everyone has this, it's just my experience. And if it can be my experience, it could be yours too.). Since you have a recent history of ectopic, you would be, according to my mw, at risk for a repeat. So I think it is important that you confirm one way or the other as soon as possible.

I have had 2 ectopic pregnancies. You need to get an ultrasound. Your risk of ectopic is extremely higher than someone who hasn't had one. The only safe route for you at this point is for you to see a baby in the uterus.

If your doctor isn't going to be proactive find a new one. There is no reason not to do an ultrasound on a woman who has had a previous ectopic. It is the only smart course of action.

How far along are you?

As for the pains or sensations I also had them in the beginning of this pregnancy and it is a completely normal one.

When I was pregnant with my dd I had consistent pain in the same spot at the beginning of the pregnancy. I had called my doctor and they told me to go to er since they couldn't get me in. I went to er and they did ultra sounds to confirm that pregnancy was in the uterus. If you can't be seen at doctors office, I would go to a clinic or er. That way you can ease your fears. I hope all is well and you get an answer soon!

The pain could be a cyst on your overy. A lot of women have this early in pregnancy. That happened to me, and it can be very painful. Like you said, the fact you arent bleeding is a great sign, as well as your symptoms. Given your history, you should probably get in. Depending on how far along you are, they may not be able to see the baby at this point, but they should be able to confirm where the pregnancy is developing... even just to give you peace of mind.

Broke down today at work and called the same doctor I had been too with the ectopic. It's not that they treated me wrong, but I hated having to beg for an ultrasound when I knew something was wrong and they really acted like they didn't want to give me one. When they finally did, they sent me to the ER immediately.

Anyway, they're going to see me tomorrow. I'm seeing the head nurse though, not a doctor, which leads me to believe I won't be getting an ultrasound. I'm sure they'll take blood so they can monitor my HCG level.

A friend of mine is pregnant, exactly the same amount of days that I am ... she went in today for a pap and blood work. I asked her did they monitor her HCG level and she had no idea what I was talking about.

Sucks knowing SO much about miscarriages - and therefore being paranoid about it.

I want to enjoy being pregnant. But I can't. Even if they give me an ultrasound and the baby is in the first spot and the pain is explained away, I will be super paranoid until 40 weeks. I just wanna be normal and have a normal pregnancy.

:lurk: You're more than likely okay and it's normal early pregnancy pains. I've had an ectopic and three normal pregnancies and all of them included some side pain. It would seem very reasonable to get an early ultrasound just to check location of baby with your history. I've had ultrasounds right around 5 weeks to figure that out (and then a couple of weeks later to check for a heartbeat).

I hope that you're able to get seen sooner rather than later and that everything is fine with this little one. I'm so sorry for your loss. :bighug:

They did not have me wait a day......they called the hospital (which is attached) & got in a giant argument & then told me to go get an U/S right then & there. It took about 5 seconds for the tech to say oh baby is in right place. I am not sure why they are not being 100% proactive with you?????? Ask them why?

With my last m/c, I wound up in the er (I was bleeding but not contracting). They asked me if I had had any cramping before I started bleeding, because they wanted to rule out ectopic. When dh asked them what would happen if it was ectopic, they said emergency surgery because it would be a life-threatening situation.
