Should I take an exercise break?

I have heard that heavy exercise can hinder fertility... I'm in the 2nd month of the Turbo Fire program and my lower back has been hurting since my last cycle... about 4 weeks now... but ive been pushing on. I have heard reciently that a heavy exercise program can actually hinder fertility but i don't know if that's true. I wonder if it shakes the sperm away from the egg? Anyone know? I'm wondering if i should take a week off?

I'm not sure about this. As far as I know exercise is a good thing because it helps everything in your body. I do relatively heavy exercise. I do zumba at least 3-4 day a week for an hour and I hike on the weekends. Last big hike was 7 miles and was all uphill so it was really intense. I think it helps me though. It seems to me I've O'd better since I started working out more. I think exercise can be a problem only if it's so intense that your body can't handle it or if you're losing a lot of weight really fast. I think that's because it can take your body some time to adjust. I've asked my RE about my exercise and he says as long as I've been doing it this way for a while I should be fine. It still kicks my tail though. Smile

I'm inclined to agree with Leah, I've never heard of exercise hindering fertility with the exception of body builders and extreme weight loss. Most doctors recommend you start exercising as it helps TTC, then continue through out pregnancy.

I agree that as long as long as your not working out until the point of complete exhaustion or training so hard it interferes with your Oing and causes you to stop having periods ( I have heard of this in people who run a lot of marathons or Olympic athletes) then you're probably fine. I have read that being very overweight can hinder your fertility and so can being very underweight. I recently started walking 2-3 miles a day after my loss and my MW is all for it. As for taking the dperm away from the egg I don't think that can happen. As far as I know once it gets up past your cervix it keeps going. That's why some drs recommend laying down for 15 mins after bd'ing to give all the sperm a chance to get up there though some drs say it gets up there as soon as its ejaculated and laying down doesn't matter.

Thanks so much ladies! I've been so upset about this cuz I really love my Turbo Fire and don't want to stop the program. I'm 2/3 of the way through it and i feel so much better when i work out. I am losing weight quick with it tho... i've only finished 7 weeks and have lost 10lbs and 8.5" is that too fast do you think? I still have 45lbs to lose to reach my goal

That's great Gina! I don't think that's too fast at all! I think for it to affect you negatively it'd have to be so fast that you were effectively anorexic. I know that my cousin had gastric bypass and you lose weight so fast after something that major that even though it's good for it it's so severe that you're technically anorexic or your body thinks you are. It can be hard on your heart because it's such a major change. I imagine something that major could affect fertility but it sounds like you're just on a great healthy path that will only benefit you in the future. So I say go for it!

I would be sad if the doc made me stop doing zumba because I LOVE it, and it's getting me back in shape so fast. The RE said it's fine as long as your body is used to it before you get pregnant. I guess he doesn't want you to start something new when you're pregnant...shouldn't matter beforehand anyway. I think exercise is pretty much always a good thing as long as you're not breaking yourself down too much. Smile

Wow that's great results!! I say keep going like the other ladies said. It's good for you and your fertility for sure!! Like said above its when your severely underweight or starving yourself that affects fertility not losing weight quickly if you have it to lose that is. WTG!
