Bedtime

What time does your LO go to bed?

Kaylin still gets up at night, usually around 1-2am. And it's only to come crawl in our bed. I'm wondering if putting her down at 8pm, is too early and she's just not "tired". Last night, we let her stay up until 9 - but she didn't go to sleep until 9:30ish. She slept all night long....it was fantastic and I actually felt more refreshed this morning as a result of not having a toddler kicking my belly all night.

I know that I will co-sleep with the new baby since I plan on nursing again, and I really don't feel comfortable having Kaylin in the bed too. She moves so much and literally sleeps on top of me. Most nights I wake up and am 1/2 way off the bed.

Ev goes to bed between 8 and 8:30. He wakes up no later than 7:30 no matter what time he goes to bed. Also, Jerry goes to bed around 10 so we like to have some time to relax before then. It's weird but for some reason, Evan can't sleep on our bed. He just can't get comfortable so once he's up, he's up and ready to come downstairs!

Erin usually goes to bed around 8-830, but if she slept in or is just not tired we will let her stay up until 9. Otherwise it is a fight and all she does is play in her room on those days anyway.

Jake goes down between 7:30 and 7:45 at night and he is up at 6am during the week. On Fri and Sat, we generally let the kids go to bed when they want or at least when they give us ques that they are ready.

During the school year our older two are up at 6:30, so Grady is up with them. They all go to bed around 8pm.

Now it's summer break though, so everyone is staying up later. They are all going around 9pm these days - Grady is usually asleep between 9 and 9:30. They are all getting up between 7:30 and 8am.

Grady still wakes up during the night, but I have a baby-proof handle on his door so he can't come out - otherwise he'd be in our bed every night, as he does when we're on vacation and are sharing a room. I hear him sit up and 'bash' on the walls of his playpen for a couple of minutes, then he falls back to sleep on his own. Sometimes twice a night he does it still.. but it's not too disruptive so I don't mind.

We usually put the girls to bed around 7:30 - 8. So we start the whole process around 7:10, or 7 if it's a bath night. I get them up around 6:30 for daycare. On the weekends they will wake up between 6:30 and 7am. During the week they take pretty crappy naps at daycare, so they are pretty cranky by 7, but on the weekends they take better naps and can go longer. If we are out or have people over, we are not strict about bedtime and let them stay up.

What do your LOs do for nap? At home they will sleep from 1/1:30 until 3/3:30. At daycare it's more like 1 - 2, maybe 2:30 at the latest. And it SHOWS at night!

We are m.e.a.n. about bedtimes. We have all kids down by 7:30p. Taya and Callie are allowed to stay up and read for about 30 minutes, but they usually pass out before 8p.

Lexi is typically fast asleep and she wakes up around 6:15a or so. We have a Good Nite Light (http://www.goodnitelite.com/) and I highly recommend them. At 7p the "moon" comes on and she knows it is bedtime. The moon stays on until 6a, when it turns into a sun. Lexi knows she cannot come out of her room until the sun is on (even if she is awake, she has to sit and wait for the sun....) We keep a little potty in her room if she needs to go, and once every few days she'll wake up and want somebody to take her to the potty, but most nights we don't hear from her. We do have the door lock flipped so that we can lock her in, but that is more for my peace of mind about where she is than keeping her in there..... She usually naps from 1-230p or so, give or take.

Good luck!

We are napping at a later time these days (as we are sleeping in being on vacation, I guess..). I generally put Grady down by 2:30 or 3, and he naps for about 2 hours after he falls asleep. He often plays/reads books for 1/2 hour before falling asleep, both at naptime and at bedtime. Often he's not up until almost 5, which seems kind of late.. but bedtime has not been an issue either so I'm going with it! Wink

Mason's bedtime is about 9:30, but we are not strict on it, especially in summer when we are all out til after dark hanging with the neighbors. He usually wakes up between 7:30-8:30am.

I put him down for nap around 2 and he usually sleeps til 4 or 5.

It was a total fluke, she slept all night for two nights but got back up at 2am last night. I'm sleepy!

I don't know how to break her, I'll be honest - I'm lazy. When she wakes me up at 2am, I don't have the patience to walk her back to her bedroom and listen to her cry for 20 minutes. So I just let her sleep with us. And normally, I wouldn't mind...I really love the cuddles, but because of the pregnancy I really need her to start sleeping in her room. My lower back is a mess, she kept kicking me in the belly last night, and everytime I would roll over...she was literally right underneath me.

Audra - I'm going to try one of those nightlights!

She takes nap at daycare from noon-2pm; at home it's usually 1-3. Sometimes she stays awake and then passes out around 4ish which totally messes with her night time schedule.

Rebecca, one of my friend's daughter is waking up at 2 every night too. They have tried so many things, including letting her cry and still haven't been able to break it. Her husband is a FedEx driver and she doesn't want him to be tired during the day since he's on thr road all day so she's the one getting up every night!

My nephew is 4 years old and he still gets up in the night. My sister is trying a new thing, where he gets a sticker every night that he doesn't wake her up and after 10 stickers he will get a new book. But so far it hasn't been helping much.

But his isn't a regular get up at 2am every morning. His varies some nights he may sleep all night, but he still gets up at least 3-4 nights a week.

Rebecca-- can you have dh deal with her in the night? Our first DD kept waking at night and, like you, I was preggers and exhausted.

I had Trey deal with her at night for a few days and then she never woke again. She gave up bc daddy didn't snuggle, he just calmly walked her back to bed and put her in it. The first night she got up *many* times, but the second night she only got up once or twice and the third night she slept through.....could dh do that for you in the middle of the night? Then you'd have a few months to sleep Wink

Oh and I had to nudge Trey to wake up-- he can sleep through anything kid-related......

Gah, I have asked before and he says yes but sleeps thru it all. Then I just get annoyed and do it myself, because it's easier then having to listen to her scream. She is in this phase that she will not let Wes help AT all if I'm anywhere near the house, she will scream at the top of her lungs that she wants her "mommy" and not "daddy", she's even been saying lately that "I'm mommys girl only, not daddys". I think it hurts his feelings because he finally just says fine and gets me.

Sam goes to bed at 10 pm. We start the process at 930. He wakes up at 9 am! We have no schedule and no reason to wake up any earlier. I go to bed at 12 pm because I have to have my alone time. When he starts prek in the fall and I start my teaching job I'm sure it will be an entirely different story, but for now, it's strict and it works. Judd is down by 11 usually and sleeps until 9 w/ 2 bottles.

Michael is in bed by 7:45 and gets up between 6:45-7:15. His nap is about an hour and a half but a few times recently he isn't falling asleep. He is still in there with his books though. I'm not sure if he is starting to get away from naps or not. Hopefully not. I'm trying to determine if I notice a similarity on the days he doesn't fall asleep.
