Big week at our house

This past week I was off from work and stayed home with the girls! It was a HUGE week at our house. First we all went with DH to the dentist and I read a flyer their that said prolonged use of a sippy is bad for teeth. So we got rid of sippies (they still get one with water to take in the playroom but at the table they use "big girl cups").

Then Brooke was getting upset whenever we put them in cribs. So we got cots until we decide what to do about beds and they now sleep on those. So no more cribs Sad

Then I took the highchairs/booster seats off the chairs to clean and DH suggested that we don't put them back on. They already ate snack and sometimes breakfast in our chairs and not their highchairs, so we got rid of those too.

Our babies are growing up WAY too fast.

That **is** a big week! Wow, Tara....they do grow so fast.

We moved Lexi to a toddler bed just last night....she did really well. Trey took down the crib (bittersweet....) She had started to climb in and out of it easily-- and while she didn't do it at bed or naptime, she did it when playing and it made me nervous that she was going to fall.

We use straw cups instead of sippies-- they still give you the no-spill protection, but don't have the downsides of sippy cups (according to our dentist?) But Lexi uses big girl cups at mealtimes when we are at the table.....

We gave up the high chair (well, we use this seat thing that attaches to the table) a few months ago, too. Same reason-- she was happy to just sit at a big girl chair (though she mostly stands at the big girl chair bc she can't quite reach....she has a booster in our kitchen nook, where we eat breakfast and lunch) but for dinner she is at the big dining room table in a big girl chair. **sniff**

Hope you enjoyed your time off. I've been off since the 23rd and just came back to work today. I could get used to the SAHM gig (well, it is more fun bc Trey and I were both home.....but I suppose one of us has to work )

Happy New Year to your big girls!

Wow!!! Big girls!!! Lily just recently got moved from a high chair to a booster at the table with us. She thinks she is such a big kid now! We still use sippies all the time. I never thought to use straw cups. I just don't want a spill!

Awww.. ((hugs)) mama.. those are some BIG transitions for moms too, not just the little ones! Wink

We gave up our high chair long ago. Grady didn't like it and always managed to somehow rip the tray off. So for about a year, probably longer, it's been booster for us. He normally eats his breakfast and lunch just at the table on the bench with the big kids though - the booster is just for dinner.

Sippies - just for water at bed and naptime. All other times pretty much he uses a cup at the table... wait, not for blueberry or grape juice though. That stuff will STAIN in a heartbeat! Wink

Bed - sigh... still in a pack n play here. Grady refuses his toddler bed all the time - he likes his 'little bed' too much. It's always in the way, I'm so sick of having 2 beds clunking up his room all the time. But since we're heading off on a 1 week trip down south next week, I figure I'll deal with it later. Too convenient for travelling! Wink

Wow that is a big week for your girls!

Mason has been in a toddler bed since June. And he hasn't been in a high chair in a long time, we just don't have much room in our kitchen so we moved him to a booster seat a long time ago. Maybe a year or so. But just recently I took the booster off the chair because we were having company and needed all the chairs, and I haven't put it back on. Most the times he tried to sit in a big chair anyways.

However we still do mostly sippy cups. I guess I should start giving him regular cups, I just don't want the mess! I do have a couple straw ones, I should use more often for water.

Ivy used to be so careful, but now she spills CONSTANTLY. In fact, it may not be the spilling so much as she wants to pour things all over the place… so just last nigt while waiting for dinner she poured her chocolate milk from the cup to the plate, then decided she should pour it on the table…

So we are still using a sippy frequently for her – one of the ones with the cup sides. Mostly it’s for car rides and water in bed (she gets so thirsty in the middle of the night and will wake everyone up screaming if she doesn’t have water).

So what is the idea behind sippies being bad for them? Is it the same argument as prolonged thumb-sucking? (pushing teeth forward)?

Ivy just LOVES her big bed. It means that someone can lie down with her and read her a book…
