Birth Control

Who's on what? Any recommendations?

I started Low Estrogen FE a couple months ago, it's OK, supposedly the lowest dose possible in a pill per the Gyno. I've noticed really bad cramping, bloating, and break-thru bleeding. Thinking about switching again but not sure to what. Would like an IUD but have to pay out of pocket and the cost doesn't justify itself since we do want more babies in the near future.

I can't remember the name but there is a progesterone only bcp that is referred to as the mini pill. I never had any side effects from it and took it for a few years. The only real "catch" is that you have to take it every day at the same time for it to be effective.

That is similar to this pill as far as effectiveness goes; since the dose is so low, you have to be on top of it. I've been really good, really don't need any more babies until after this degree is done Wink

I just dislike the side effects to this one.

I am on Ortho-cept 28's. After Cooper was born the doc put me on some i35 pill or something, but I HATED the way it made me feel. I just felt waaaaay "off" if that makes any sense at all. I gave it a good 6 months, and then went back and ask that I be switched back to the Ortho-cept. I had been on those since I started taking the pill back when I was 19 or so.

After the first month, I felt immensely better. While this is the pill I got pg with Cooper on, I still don't want to be on anything different.

I take YAZ and so far really like it. No real side effects. Nice short periods, sometimes I actually wonder if it was a real period it is so short! This may sound like a bad reason, but the reason I chose that one and the doc did too, was because I was breaking out like a 16 year old, so that was why I wanted back on the pill.

I gave up on pills. They all caused too many side effects for me-- especially on my sex drive. It zonked it to the point that I didn't even need a pill Wink And it made me really *ahem* dry, if you catch my drift. That coupled with headaches and I was no good on pills.

We use timing and condoms when we need-- so far, so good. Eventually I will cave and let dh get a vasectomy. I just keep hoping he'll let me have one more....lol.

I have often said that this is how I think they work! They make you NOT want to DTD, so therefore you don't get pregnant! I have contemplated going off of them, but when I don't take them, my periods last over 2 weeks, and are ROUGH! Granted, they only happen ever 2-4 months, but when they hit they hit HARD.

I think we've had this discussion before and we've agreed that the birth control options suck. Sorry Rebecca, I know that's not what you wanted to hear. I tried the pill, condoms, diaphragm, Nuva Ring, NFP . . . I've got my tubes tied now and I love that. It's a great non-hormonal birth control method. But, it's not for you since you want more kids. It's been so long since I've took the pill, I can't remember what it's like. I didn't like condoms or the diaphragm. They really didn't allow for spontaiety and interrupted the moment. I used the nuva ring twice. The first time, I had no problems. The second time, I had break through bleeding. NFP is how I got pregnant with Kaitlyn. Although I don't regret having her, it was still an OOPS! I've heard good things about the patch! Have you thought about that??

Now that Pam reminded me, I used the patch before the girls. I LOVED it!!! Little side effects, light periods, and not having to remember it but once a week was great!
