Halloween

What are your LOs going to be for Halloween?

Ev is going to be a lion. He is funny because he said he is not going to wear the costume trick or treating but he wants to wear it to the zoo. This is our first year not having a Halloween party since Ev was born. We just have so much going on, I thought it was a good idea to skip this year. I am also bummed about not enjoying all of the yummy treats with my lovely gestational diabetes. Worst time of year to have it!

We are excited about Halloween!!! Emily is Minnie Mouse! DS2 is going as an army guy! and DS1 is going as a scary guy in all black and his eyes light up. He is into scary now! LOL

Laurie-I would have to agree that it would be the worst to get GD! Hope you can survive the holiday's!!!

No kidding about the worst time of year for GD! My friend said she is going to be on standby at the hospital with my favorite dessert for right after the baby is born. I will have to make it through Halloween, thanksgiving, and at least he's due before Christmas!

I can't wait to see pics of your crew in their costumes. Are you taking them trick or treating or do they have a centralized party/celebration in your neighborhood?

We usually do the trick or treating thing. Although this is our first time here on the air force academy! The kids last about an hour and then they are done! Which I like!! Smile Emily usually lasts about 30-45 min!

Our eldest Kieren is also into scary for the first time this year.. he's also a 2003 baby (June)... so I guess it's the age! Wink He's going to be a zombie.

Mimi (aged 7) is going to be a fairy, for I think the 4th time. Sigh... always a fairy or princess. She said after last halloween she wanted to be a witch next year, but no matter how hard I try, showing her all varieties of cute witches, scary witches, traditional witches... all for nothing. So - another fairy costume and wand it is! Wink

Grady is going to be a dragon this year. I bought his costume online and found a really cute one.. it came in the mail the other day and is one of those (impossible to find) really high-quality costumes. I love it! It was funny that he ended up with a sort of 'manly' costume though, as while we were looking on the computer together at all the options, he chose every single 'infant' costume he saw... bumblebee, ladybug, lamb. None were in his size.. then we all of a sudden saw the dragon and he totally latched on to it... Phew! Wink

Laurie - my suggestion is to only buy candy you DON"T like for giving away in your house. That way you'll only be tempted from Nov. 1 on and that would be stealing anyway! (not that it stops me one bit...) Lol

My biggest problem is keeping DH out of the candy! I'm easy- I just have to put it in a cupboard somewhere and I'll never think of it again unless I see it - by which point DH has probably finished it!

We are going on a Pumpkin Walk at Ivy and Leo's Nursery school. They put together a little mystery and carve a bunch of Jack-o-Lanterns and then the kids go through and they tell the story and solve the mystery.

And just today I found the following article which has me half wanting to return the Halloween candy I bought and boycott chocolate! In essence it tells how child labour is the main driver of the Cadbury/Nestle/Hershey's chocolate industry... Ugh!

Addison is going to be a Puppy Princess and Brooke a Kitty Princess! They started out as just Puppy and Kitty, but I said "How about a Princess puppy/kitty" because I wanted to make them tutus to wear! The only difference between there costumes are the ears that I made. Other than that, tutus, yellow shirts, pink tails, pink ears, jewlery, etc... Anything girly and they are happy!

Sarah, I just read that link you posted. WOW, I never knew that. It definelty will change what I buy from now on. It also has me thinking about other things, like they mentioned sugar. So crazy that we have to think about the things that happen in other countries that abuse children like that.

Went to Value Village today and bought (yes bought) 4 costumes. 3 for the dress-up box, and 1 for DSS. A pteradactyl, komodo dragon, and a beautiful butterfly that's sewn on the machine... all for less than $20!

Value Village is a steal! We went there and Erin found a pumpkin costume for $3! I mean it's old and a little worn, but she picked it out herself and wanted nothing to do with any of the other "new" costumes. She loves it and has been wearing it around the house for days! She also picked out a little pea pod costume for her new baby sister and that was only $6. I got out with 2 costumes under $10! It rocked! (I'm really glad I couldn't find the Spirit costume store-that would have been a lot more $$!)
