How is everyone doing?

Man, it's been so quiet around here! How is everyone doing? Anything new and exciting going on with you and your LO's?

We are doing well. Ev is in school two mornings a week. It's been a little crazy though because he has had a URI twice in one month so,he has missed two weeks of school. I am hoping we are back to being healthy now.

My pregnancy is going well. I am 28 weeks today. I can't believe how quickly it is going this time. I did find out last week that I have gestational diabetes. My doctor now only does the 2 hr test and it's pass or fail, no retest. My glucose at 2 hrs was 165 and the cut-off is 153. Tomorrow I have a GD class with the NP at my OB's office. I am hoping it can be controlled by diet. My concern is that now they will try to talk me into a scheduled c-section. I am really hoping to at least get a try for a VBAC. I have an appt with my doctor next week so we will see what he says.

My sister is going to be visiting from Boston in November for 2 weeks and then my in-laws will be here for 2 weeks in December. With all of our visitors and our new little man's arrival, the rest of the year is going to fly by!

Hope everyone is doing well. Wold love to hear some updates!

We are doing well too!!! Emily goes to school for 3 mornings a week! and loves it!! I thought she would not want to go! I wish she went more!!LOL
This weekend we are going to Keystone for a marriage retreat! The army pays for lodging and meals! so its a nice little get away in the mountains!

We have been busy with football!! Both boys are playing so running from practices and games keeps us busy!! Ready for winter to get a little break!!

Laurie- 28 weeks!! Time is flying by!! I have a feeling the end of the year will fly by! I can't believe its almost October!!

We are doing well. Just getting used to having two little babies around.

Laurie - 28 weeks, crazy. You didn't fail too bad so I bet diet will be just fine. Hope you still get your VBAC.

Nicole- how old were your boys when you put them in football? I think Luke would like that. He just turned 5.

Hey Ladies!

Laurie, Wow, 28 weeks already! It really does go fast when I'm not the one pregnant. Poor Ev and his URI. Are you and DH staying healthy?

Nicole, that's awesome that the Army pays for room and food. Have a great time!

We are doing good. The girls started dance (tap, jazz, ballet) two weeks ago. They LOVE IT!!!!! They did NOT want to leave yesterday. So we stayed and watched the older girls for a few minutes. They make us all put out tap shoes on and do shows for DH. It is fun!

In November DH and I are going to Vegas for a long weekend. It will be the first time we are both away from the girls. I hope I do ok. I know that girls will. They will be with the in-laws. We are goign to Vegas for my niece's wedding. I posted a picture a month or so ago of her getting proposed to on her homecoming from Afghanistan. I can't wait for her wedding!

I never ended up having to go to the UK in September for work. But I may have to go mid October. They need to get me a working Visa, and it takes some time to get that to go thru. I hope I still get to go. I don't want to leave the girls, but it will probably be the only way I will get to the UK, and heck, work's paying for it, so it's hard to pass up a chance to see another country for free.

What are you LOs goign to be for Halloween? Addison is going as a puppy and Brooke as a kitty. I convinced them to be a "princess puppy" and "princess kitty". So I am going to make them tutus to wear with it! I hope they come out as cute as they look in my head! LOL

I am slowly recovering from an intense visit with DS and a bunch of his friends who stayed here for over a week to work on a project. They were a fascinating group of people, but man, could they eat!!!$$$ Lots of laundry too.

I am back to gardening now which is wonderful as the weather is cool and sunny. Went to a Garden Club meeting last night. Also had a Book Club meeting recently.

I have been working on making photo books for Christmas gifts too. I use PhotoInPress Book Designer. I'm slow at this, so it is never too early to get started!

We are doing good, though I feel like I am behind on everything! House cleaning, homeschooling, Christmas shopping, and all my other projects! I can't believe Christmas is only 3 months away and I haven't even gotten started! Not to mention we have about 3 birthday parties to attend in November! I need to work on that to spread out the spending!

September has been an expensive and busy month for us with Shay's first birthday, Car/Motorcycle insurance, having to have our sewer lines replaced, and an alignment on my car!

I am working on a new Etsy store selling printables like birthday invitations and banners: PinkLilyPrintshop on Etsy

Shaylynn has taken a few steps here and there, but I can't convince her to really walk...I know it's just a confidence issue because she will stand in the middle of the room and dance! She is going to be Minnie Mouse for Halloween. I made her dress, I think most of you are on my facebook and can see the picture there. Mason is going to be Rafael, the red Ninja Turtle. We are in a Ninja Turtle phase right now. We got his costume today and already he has enjoyed wearing it. Again I have a picture of him on my facebook.

Kaylee, just checked out the costumes on FB! ADORABLE!!!! Brooke was Minnie Mouse one year, but not nearly as cute as that outfit! Great job.

Marie, sounds like you have been busy. Are you getting your gardens ready for winter? I was SOOOOO sad when we had to rip out most of our veggie gardens for winter Sad The girls were very upset too. Especially Brooke who still keeps asking to go pick matoes (tomatoes). We don't have much in the way of flower gardens... yet! Hopefully I will get to that next year.

I'm around!

Ivy is at nursery school 2 afternoons a week and would go every day if she was allowed. She is the youngest in her class by quite a bit, but you would never guess (the cut off is 3y6mo in sept and she's obviously 2mo younger than that but the teacher knew her and said she would take her anyway).

Ivy and Leo (2 in sept) have been playing well together, and fighting terribly as well. Leo is tough but can be very sweet, and Ivy is always yelling at him, unfortunately. We're trying to work with them, but it can be tough sometimes with the new baby around. Ivy and Leo just got a bunk bed. They love climbing all over it. Leo slipped yesterday and dislocated his thumb (couldn't straighten it). He didn't cry or anything, just looked puzzled at his thumb, looked at me and showed me. We went downstairs to DH, who calmly relocated it, and all was well (except for me who was very concerned!).

I started playing hockey again, and DH just had knee surgery... He's doing great and it was nice to have him home for a couple weeks to hold Forrest so I could get stuff done. I'm trying to get rid of a bunch of extra stuff that is just taking up space...

Hey Girls!! So glad to hear everyone is doing well. Things have been a little hectic lately with the kids starting school, then my sister was very sick and Andrew celebrated his bday this past weekend. My little man turned 6 today! Besides that stuff, work and trying to keep ontop of going to the gym, I haven't had much time. I did find out I will be having lovely sinus surgery again Oct 17th, aren't you jealous?! LOL

I'm around too. Erin is doing well. She was in school/daycare fulltime, but with me on mat leave she's home with me. We made our temp move across the state to be with DH during my 12 weeks. Then it will be with6 months of split while i finish my contract n sell the house. Im loving the new area we will be moving to. I just can't believe we are doing all this with a newborn.
Sydney is wonderful...but prefers to do her cluster feeding...cuddles in the middle of the night. I'm mostly on autopilot from sleep deprivation ...but section recovery is going well.

Hi friends!

So sorry I've been SO MIA lately!! I had been logged out and with having so little time, never thought it was a 'good time' to take the time to log in... silly! Wink

Anyhow, things are good with us, just busy busy busy. We are up to the gills with our basement reno - its been a real pain in the nether regions so far... always more money than you plan/hope and much slower than you ever imagine! But tomorrow I think we'll have a concrete floor again, which is a HUGE step. I'm so sick of mud, gravel and cracks in the walls at this point...

Grady is well - he loves his preschool class as well as his swimming lessons. He's a real little fish, in with 5 year olds as he's been swimming so much in Chile. Too bad he's so excited to be there that he doesn't listen as well.. spends a lot of time underwater.

The big kids are also enjoying their new school and teachers. Kieren is in grade 4 french immersion, and I'm just amazed at how well he's able to effortlessly switch gears from learning spanish for the past 2 years back to french (he was in french immersion before we went to chile too). I don't know how he keeps it all straight in his head.. I sure don't. I'm taking a spanish class at night, but when we go over into the french speaking side of Ottawa, I speak a terrible mix of french and spanish. Wink

I seem to spend a lot of time getting the kids around to this and that activity these days as well. We have scouts, brownies, swimming, spanish class for kids as well as me, dance classes for Kieren and Mimi, preschool... no wonder I always feel like I'm in the middle of leaving to go somewhere! Wink

Richard is doing well with his new job, although it's a little slow. The new postings are now coming out (for 2 years from now) and it looks preliminarily like we have a good chance to be going to Quito Ecuador next time around. Would sure be a great location and very interesting posting.. we'll see how it all pans out.

Oh yeah and one last exciting bit of news (no I'm not pregnant..)! Wink We bought a cottage!! It's a cute little 1930's log cabin on a lake about 2 hours drive from Ottawa. Big maple trees, totally quiet (only 6 other cottages on our side of a big lake)... beautiful. I think we get possession this week sometime. So we've been busily shopping for a motorboat, canoe etc as this is a great time of year to buy as people don't want to store them for the winter.

Anyhow, great to read the updates and I'm going to post again now that I'm logged in! Wink

You'll have to post before and afters of your backyard - I'm interested to see what you've done! I'll post pics of our basement too when all is said and done - it'll be a pretty huge change! (I hope... ) Lol

Pretty slow here. Cruddy weather.. cold and wet.. and DH had to work Sunday all day Saturday we did some clean up on our basement, starting to chip off some of the mud off the back stairwell and entry... 10 tonnes of dirt were taken out of here so I can't expect it to be clean.. but at the same time, I REALLY wish we hadn't already replaced our doors and windows down there. Now one window doesn't close easily and our brand new door is dinged up. Sad Surprises we found in the mud clean up...

And today's capper: looks like the heating ducts in our extension are made of something containing asbestos... starting to research testing and remediation as we speak. sigh...

I sound a little like Debbie Downer this week eh?! Lol It's not that bad really - things could always be much, much worse! Wink

Why ever did I say that?? And then they did get worse... not only do the heating ducts look like they're wrapped in asbestos paper, but the HVAC guy (young) last week didn't seem to realize that, and CUT into it for an extension.

Tomorrow we'll have to see how bad it is... hoping against all hope that it;s not asbestos paper after all, but we're about 95% sure. The next question is how much was released, how much has it affected everyone's health, and how do we clean it up??!!!

OH NO!!! Hope there's an update on the asbestos situation... Congrats on the cottage, and hope the basement is getting in shape.

Rachel - MORE surgery??? What's with that?

Alison- congrats on Sydney and hope all is going well.

As for us, we re-did our back yard in the spring, and I think I just found some old shower doors that someone is getting rid of and I want to make a cold frame for growing some veggies throughout the winter (in Edmonton!). It would be nice to have fresh greens, at least, throughout the winter. We'll see how it works,or if it gets done. We got snow last wek and there's 3 more days of snow planned with just above freezing temperatures next week. Looks like a Halloween in a snow suit!

As for Ivy, she has just figured out how to read numbers from 11-20! She has been able to read up to 10 for a while, but she was just playing with a ruler and asked me what this "one one" was. Then the "one - two". So we went through it up to 20, and then I mixed them up on her and she got them all right!!! And she can "add" and "subtract" as in if you say, "If Daddy, Mommy and Skyler each have 2 cookies, and you have one, how many cookies are there?"She can say "7". And then, "If Skyler eats both of his, then how many cookies are there left?" She'll say "5".

I wonder how long with the letters now. I wish I had a letter book as good as our number book which has different colours and textures to trace. We haven't been intentionally doing numbers or reading, but she LOVES her books and likes the action of tracing.

So that's my bragging about Ivy this week (or at least for today)!

Anyone's May Brats reading yet?

As for everyone else, Skyler is getting a grade 8 wake-up call. Leo is starting to talk more clearly. Forrest is just starting to smile. And DH and I just built a composter last weekend!

Hi friends,

Quick update on the asbestos: yes it was asbestos, but thankfully not the 'bad' kind of asbestos. Ours was asbestos paper, which carries a varying quantity of asbestos (didn't get ours tested as we didn't see the point), but the most important thing is that it's very stable. When you touch it, it doesn't poof out asbestos, it's kind of like touching a cast for a broke limb. Not great that it was cut into - definitely some fibers were released - but they said all in all it was a VERY low level exposure. We had them come in tonight and remove the whole duct intact (first they spray it with water, then glue to seal it, cut it dowm, then vacuum up with a commerical vac with a HEPA filter, finally spray a mixture of water and glue onto all surfaces close by). Feels GREAT that it's gone... along with almost $1000 but hey, at least we can sleep at night again! Wink The worst part was having to HEPA vac Grady's whole room and wipe EACH ONE OF HIS TOYS with a soapy rag, as his room was right above the asbestos duct. Sad Took me hours... but itlooks fantastic now! Lol

Sarah - amazing that Ivy can read numbers already! Grady can only read 1, 2 and 3. Wink I didn't even know he knew those to be honest, I just tested him a little after reading about Ivy. As for math.. FUGGET ABOUT IT!! Wink He told me 2 + 2 was "1,2,3,4,5,6.7.8. 16"!! Lol

RAchel - hope your surgery goes well and this is IT!

Laurie - so cute to see your belly on FB.. you're nearly there! Smile

Glad to hear about the asbestos!!!

I just have to brag some more... Since Ivy can read numbers, DH taught her to read the time on the stove for us... So now I can ask Ivy to check the time and she'll say "1-2-2-7"! Very handy!

All of our little kids are growing up too fast Sad The girls aren't great with numbers but are really good at there letters. We're the oppositite of you Sarah, some really good number books but not so many great letter books. I should try to find some.

How are you feeling Rachel?

Kirsten, UGH, what a PITA. Glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been, but still a pain. And glad you all are ok too!

Laurie, I must have missed your belly pic on FB. Off to go check that out now! I bet you look adorable!!!

Did you mean to say you had letter books? What are they called and who wrote them?

The best one I like for numbers is Touch and Count with Peter Rabbit Published by Penghuin Group (Touch and Count with Peter Rabbit (Potter): Beatrix Potter: 9780723263715: Amazon.com: Books)

I'm thinking of making a sandpaper letter book as a project with Ivy and Leo if I get around to it.

I have the worst surgical luck ever.....so surgery was last Wed, I actually felt pretty good after and returned to work Friday. Well Friday night I started having really bad pain. I thought maybe I had just gotten behind on taking my pain pills, so I went home took 2 and had a glass of wine....no STILL in a huge amount of pain. Saturday I wake up and my jaw is killing me, I can hardly open in and as the day goes I'm taking 2 vicodin at a time and its not providing much relief. By that night I was just spent, I was almost in tears I hurt so bad. So Sunday DH was home from work, so I drove myself to the ER..........they didn't really "look" at me, just basically said I probably had an infection starting, gave me a round of IV antibiotics, pain meds and nausea meds and sent me home with a perscription. Yesterday I drive myself into work and call my ENT first thing (they had paged him at ER, but he never called back.....so they say). I go in for an appt at 945 and he feels my jaw and sees my pain and immediately says "oh honey, you have TMJ". He said when the anastesologist knocked me out, he must have moved my jaw in a way to cause it. He said he's never seen anyone have it after surgery, much less this bad. Let me tell you this is a killer!! So now I'm adding a round of steroids and percocet to my drug list to try and clear this up. WHAT a week it's been!!!

Oh Rach, I'm so sorry. What else have you been doing for your jaw? I had surgery on my jaw for TMJ, so make sure you take it easy. Are you eating soft foods, ice or heating it? HUGS honey.

Sarah, LOL, yes I meant we have good LETTER books not so good NUMBER books! UGH, can you tell I'm dyslexic? LOL I'll have to check what they are at home.

:bighug:

What's everyone up to for the weekend?

We have a scouts event on Saturday that Richard (who's now starting as a Scout leader) and Kieren will be attending most of the day, then a birthday party for a neighbour in the late afternoon. Sunday.. hopefully a lot of vegging aroud the house and relaxing to gear up for yet another week of reno hell! Wink

Well girls, it's been a long week and it turns out that the anastesologist (sp) that intubated me the first time dislocated my jaw. So I went around for a week in tremendous pain, er a few different times BC of this. Finally on Thursday my ENT took my back To The or and reset it. He told my mom he's not sure it will stay in BC my jaw muscles are super tight. There's way more to the story, but too long for me to write now. I'm still in a lot of pain and might call an oral surgeon this week to make sure no permanent damage was done. I mean if I'm not on percocet I can't function BC of pain. Have no idea how I'm gonna handle work tomorrow Sad

OUCHIE! I've had my jaw dislocated briefly a couple times playing hockey - but it just made people happy not to be able to hear me for a week or so. Can't imagine what it feels like! Hope you feel better soon.

LOL! I dislocated mine a few times because of cheerleading (I was a base), and it was the same way... People were happy to have me quiet!

Hope you feel better Rachel. Keep lots of heat on it, that always helped my jaw and TMJ problems. Hopefully this will be the end of it (fingers crossed).

I'm really thinking something is damaged, I can't open my mouth hardly at all still.....every time I try it just clicks. I saw an oral surgeon last Monday and i start therapy next wk. He said before he can assess whether or not jaw surgery is needed he needs to get my jaw muscles to loosen up, then he will send me for an MRI.this is a mess......I'm on disability at wk now BC I can't talk and the pain is so bad that I'm on pain meds and muscle relaxers. Total mess!!!!

How are things now, Rachel? Any word on what exactly is going on??! You must be wasting away.. I can't imagine eating is easy with your jaw feeling like that?! Thinking of you, my friend...

As for us, still plugging away at our renovation h*ll... we've had to fire a framer for shoddy work and now he's threatening to lien/sue us because he wants more money (we were paid up to date but had an agreement on paying $600 more to finish the job). He's not finishing the job, but I guess he wants the money anyway... some people! :angry4: What else.. Kieren (9 1/2) is having bullying problems at school. Poor kid, for whatever reason he is rarely accepted/liked by classmates and it seems to be happening again. A popular kid is using every opportunity on the playground to call him names etc. The school doesn't believe us, says the kid has been there a few years and is not 'on their radar' for bullying. Sigh... Anyway, we're going to report every single incidence and that should do the trick with opening their eyes to what the popular kids are also capable of!

THat's about it for us - what's up with all y'all? Everyone out voting I guess? Wink

Kirsten, sorry to hear about Kieren. I was bullied as a kid and it was AWEFUL. I really hope that the school starts taking it serious.

Rachel, how are you feeling? I hope you are able to find some good soft food to eat. I pretty much put anything in the blender at first and then realized that if I used one of those slap/chopper things and got it really tiny I didn't have to chew anything. I hope they figure it out soon and you don't need ANOTHER surgery. UGH.

Speaking of your surgies Rachel, I was talking to a lady I work with that recently had breast implants. They look GREAT on her. But she was saying how every night for the rest of her life she has to massage them so they don't get scar tissue. Is that the case for everyone?

Nothing too exciting goign on here. Next Thursday DH and I go to Las Vegas for my niece's wedding. I am getting excited, but I have such mixed feelings about leaving the girls. We will be gone and wont' see them for 4 whole days. This is the first time I will be gone that long and the first time that BOTH DH and I will be gone. Part of me is more nervous on how my in-laws will be with them. They don't keep as close of an eye on them in public as I would like, and I know that they will spoil them. As long as they are safe I can get over the spoiling thing. UGH, I just know I will miss them soo much. But DH and I need this too, that's what I have to keep telling myself!

Hey Ladies, I'm still hanging in here. Going to PT 3 times a week, don't know if another surgery is required yet or not.

Tara, yes after you have them done they recommend you massaging them daily so that they stay soft and don't form scar tissue. Some people are more prone to that than others. My SIL doesn't do hers at all (doesn't surprise me) but I do mine probably 4 times a week or so.

Good Morning, Mamas! What's new these days?

We are doing well. This week is 35 weeks...I am slowing down for sure. Ev's requests for everything dome yesterday don't end though! :). I had a dr. appt yesterday and everything seems to be good. Baby is measuring "not too big, not too small". My GD seems to be under control through the diet....not fun, especially at this time of year with so many yummy treats around. My sister is arriving tomorrow for a two week visit so we are very excited. DH's parents then arrive on December 17 for three weeks. Needless to say, the rest of 2012 is going to fly by!

Rachel - how are things going? I hope you are starting to get some relief, can't imagine the pain!

Tara -enjoy Vegas! You guys deserve it!

Kirsten - how awful for Kieran. It breaks my heart to hear how mean kids can be. I saw first hand yesterday how early it can begin too. Ev and his friend were on the playground after school yesterday and two kids who I think are a bit older, came amd pushed Ev down for no reason. It was one of those things you see happening in slow motion but can't get to fast enough. It's amazing though how some parents are also so carefree about that sort of behavior and it wasn't until I said something to the moms that they asked the kids to apologize.

35wks!!! Ahh he will be here so soon!!! I'm so excited for you!

As for me, nope no relief yet. And in the words of the oral surgeon "he's never seen something like this before". I've checked into getting a 2nd opinion, but turns out there are only 3 maxillofacial surgeon's in the Austin area that actually treat what I have. One I'm going to, one doesn't take either of my insurances and the other doesn't take my primary, but takes the secondary.....said that want to collect $150 for the 1st visit. Which I'm confused about, but my ENT is out of network for my primary, yet they submit to both and I never have to pay. Soooo I think I'm screwed. The dr is very smart, but his bedside manner sucks and he doesn't believe me that my jaw was dislocated backwards, said he's never seen that. I told him, well as you can tell from my chart, I'm not the norm. So still in theraphy 3x a week, which is extremely painful. I came home yesterday in tears and ended up taking 2 demoral for relief. He switched my medicine that helps me relax again, bc my muscles are still like steel. He can't really treat or tell if I need surgery until these muscles loosen up and right now it's basically my whole face, from my temples all the way down my jaw line. This is some painful sh*t!!! Work......or should I say my boss is being a reallllll B.....she tried to tell me last wk that they were demoting me (while im out on STD). Her reason, although I do awesome work, they need someone there. I said umm I have been there everyday for 5months! I think she just has it out for me now, bc I called my HR and what she did is against the law. HR talked to her boss and and he said there was never any intention of taking away my promotion. So she got her butt reemed. Man, this has been a crazy month!!

Tara, VEGAS??! I'm so jealous!
