Well, here it is...the appt went very well. We both really liked the doctor we met with. He explained our 3 options of
Clomid with iui, injectables with iui, and ivf. Since we have already tried clomid several times, and our insurance doesn't cover ivf (the cost is $9000/cycle, not including meds!) at all, we are going to opt for injectables/iui. We both have to have some labs done and if all looks ok, it sounds like we can get started soon. He also did an u/s and everything looked good.

So that's where we are, it was nice to get a positive outlook and some new hope! I appreciate everyone's support and good wishes! I will keep you updated as we go along...hopefully with some good news soon!

Sounds like a great plan!! Will the injectables make you ovulate? Or will you just wait to O on your own then use injectables to release the egg for the IUI?

The injectables work a little different than clomid. They help the follicles to mature but don't trigger ovulation. Starting on day 7 of your cycle, they do u/s to measure follicle sizes and how many there are. They then do a trigger shot to trigger ovulation once at least one follicle has reached a certain size. So basically the doctor has control of the timing of ovulation. They will do the IUI two days in a row to increase our chances. The part they can't control is how many follicles mature, so there is obviously a higher chance of multiples and there is also a chance of overstimulation (like a friend of mine who had over 25 mature follicles on her last cycle!), where I believe if you have over 10 then they will cancel the cycle.

Hopefully soon, I did bloodwork today, DH has to do his and then of all looks good, I will take
Provera to start my period and injections start on day 2. I also have to go meet with the nurse to learn how to do injections before we start.

Sounds like a good plan, Laurie. I'm so glad you both like the doctor. It makes a big difference. I also agree with Marie, that it is nice to hear you be so optimistic. You are in my prayers, and, as always, I look forward to hearing more news!

I got a call from my nurse coordinator at the fertility clinic and so far my labs look good. I am going to meet with her on Monday afternoon to go over meds, how to do injections, etc. and also meet with the insurance coordinator. DH got his bloodwork done today so hopefully we can get started soon!

I had my appointment with the nurse today and it went well. I learned how to do the injections and we went over the schedule for my first cycle. I have to get a pregnancy test tomorrow and then they will have me start provera later this week to start my period. I have never had to take it before so I don't know how long it will take for my period to start. Once that starts I go for a baseline ultrasound and then start injections in day 2 of my cycle. If all goes as planned, they will do the inseminations on day 12 and 13. I am getting excited and trying to stay positive!

Laurie, I'm crossing everything and praying for you. I have not done the injections, so I don't know exactly what you are going through. I'm hoping it is not too difficult on your body and your emotions. Let that excitement carry you through!!! I'll be waiting for updates Smile

It is a strange feeling but I am feeling more relaxed about things than I have in a long time. I have to say although most every part of the "natural" ttc process seems to be taken out of the mix, I am excited to get things started. I am almost 70 days into my current cycle so getting my period will be a gift! When I was leaving yesterday, the nurse told me to think positive thoughts and remember that we are doing all we can do and what will ultimately happen will be in God's hands.

Amen girl!!

My friend has her first IUI today. I'm so excited for you guys!

It took me between 2-5 days to start my period on provera. Hope it happens quickly for you. It's funny how you never wanted to start your period so much until now!!

I cannot wait for your cycle to get going! I'll be praying and cheering you on all the way!!

Thanks for checking in! I finished Provera on Thursday but no AF yet. It can take up to 2 weeks from when you finish taking it for AF to start. Once my period starts, I have to go for a baseline u/s amd then start the injections. I am hoping some positive feelings come back because right now I am feeling more pessimistic than anything. I am not sure why but I continue to try to be ok with the possibility of not having any more children. I remind myself of what the nurse told me about us doing all we can, the doctors doing everything they can and ultimately it will be in God's hands. This month marks 2 years and I know some people try for a lot longer but man, has it been a long road!

I'll keep you posted once I start injections. Smile

Sorry you are feeling pessimistic. It's probably because AF is on its way. That's how I felt when I was done with the provera. Then AF started like 5 days later. Once that's over you might start feeling some optimism. Hope AF gets here quick!!!

Sorry you are having a tough time.

I don't know why I never thought to mention this earlier, but I've read a couple articles that show that if MEN take folic acid, it can increase the number of viable sperm by 20-30% (and it's usually around 20% so that's more than double!), and that can really help in situations where men are part of the problem in getting pregnant. Unlike in women where they recommend taking folic acid for months before you try to get pregnant, for men it's only about 3-4 days before trying. And Folic acid is cheap, so it doesn't hurt.. plus it helps to know that DH is doing his part too!

Hope you are feeling more positive these days.
