Momma advice =)

Hey girls. This momma needs some advice for herself. Lily is getting over a cold, and I thought I was coming down with it. My throat has been sore for a few days, and I have some post nasal drip, but not much. My nose isn't conjested, and I'm not coughing. I wouldn't be concerned, except that the lymph nodes in my neck are swollen and quite sore. I don't see any white spots on my throat, but it is a little red. Should I go ahead and see the doctor because of the swollen, sore glands, or should I wait it out for a while and see if it does just turn into a cold?

I know some of you are sore throat experts with all your kids, so I know you'll have some good advice Smile

I'm not a fan of the doctor.....so keep that in mind when you hear my advice.

I actually have the same thing you describe right now, and am just waiting it out. Typically if it is strep or something more sinister a fever will accompany the sore throat.....

So I'd wait and see what happens. In the interim, hot tea and lots of fluids are your friend.

Hope you feel better soon!

I take cold fx to build up my system and fight things off. I especially do this a few days before going on flights - where I used to always come down with something.

I would wait it out. That is going around. A ton of people have had it around here. My sister took my niece to the doc and he said its a cold virus that's going around. Hope you feel better. Eat lots of chicken soup and drink lots if tea with honey.

Thanks ladies. I just rarely have lymph node pain, even if they are swollen. It helps to know it's going around. I'll give it a few days and see where I am. Hope you feel better, too, Audra.

Yup, I'd wait it out too. I never go to the doctor, or take the kids, unless it is something completely out of the ordinary, and accompanied by fever. I've only had one out of 3 kids ever on antibiotics, and that was only once - and that's how I like it! Wink Most of the time there's nothing that can be done for colds and flu anyway, other than the usual rest, fluids, vit c etc.

Hope you're all on the mend really soon! Smile

I would go see the chiropractor and specifically tell them about the lymph pain. My chiropractor has shown me how to massage my lymph nodes under my chin, in my ears, and behind my jaw to help drain them all. I?ve stopped more than one cold in it?s tracks by doing this several times a day. It?s also a wonderful way to prevent/get rid of an ear infection. It?s worked a couple times for Ivy and kept us away from antibiotics.

Yes, it is seeing a doctor, but if they show you how (and it?s easy), then it will prevent going in the future, and it will hopefully prevent medication.

Well, my throat still hurts quite a bit, and I do have a cold. It is unusual for me to have a sore throat this long when I have a cold, but who knows. I'm going to see a new primary care doc regarding migraines on Thursday, so if I'm still having issues, I'll ask her to take a look. Thanks for asking. How are you doing, Audra?
