Red, our new puppy!

DH has been wanting to get another dog for a while, but the timing was never right. We work about 20-30 minutes from home and having to go home at lunch would have been a pain. With the flood, DH is working from home so we thought that this was a great time to get a puppy since he is home all day. I looked and looked and looked on petfinder.com and never found one (well, I found one but she was already adopted). Then last Saturday night I checked and there were two Yellow Lab puppies for adoption at the Humane Society near my parent's house (2 hours away). They opened at 11 on Sunday so we decided to get there at 11 and worst case if they were already gone we would at least be able to have lunch with my parents. There were 6 puppies that someone found on the side of the road, 4 had already been prepaid for and were getting picked up later that day and two were still left! We fell in love with "Three" and got to take her home that day. The girls LOVE her and I think our Bridget really does too! She's 17 so not really playful. But Red LOVES Bridget and love to snuggle up with her. It's too stinkin cute!

So here are some pictures from that day of our 6 week old yellow lab puppy!

With Bob

Addison is such an animal lover!

Brooke was sick but purked up to play with Red!

Bridget checking out her new sister. Both tails were wagging, so that's a good sign.

So cute!

Bob may be in a house with all girls, but they are all Daddy's Girls!

Loving the cage!

OH, if you are wondering on the name. DH always thought it would be funny to name his Yellow Lab puppy "Old Red", so we stuck with just Red.

He is too cute Tara!! And I love his name! My mom has a lab named Red and he's a black lab. He was actually a puppy out of the litter that my old dog had. I love seeing the girls with him, they are just too cute!!

Thanks everyone! We are having a lot of fun with her. I just can't believe that in a year to two years this little 4 pound puppy will be a 60+ pound dog!

Yup! And DH just thought it would be funny since she's a yellow puppy. Good thing the girls already know there colors or else this could really confuse them!

That's funny! And how cool to have a puppy that your dog had!

My friend has a dog named Red, he is a Pharoah Hound. She is too embarrassed to tell how much they paid for him :o

I'm sure the girls will love having such a great companion!!

Love the pics and the name!!!! Precious!! I cannot believe you have a 17 year old doggie! The girls will have a dog to grow up with. Annie (our black lab) is 9 and she is almost too old to enjoy Sam, so let the girls give Red he!!

I've never heard of a Pharoah Hound. But I am proud to say we spend $150 on our dog! It was a shelter, so they just ask for that to cover shots. We did give them $200 and I do plan on dropping off some food and toys when we go back to that area to get Red spayed. It was SOOOO sad walking into a shelter. I've never been to one before. I wanted to bring every pet home Sad

I know, is'n it amazing that Bridget is 17! And the great thing about a white dog is that you can't tell how old she is because her fur is already white! The girls LOVE Bridget, but she doesn't really play with them, so I am glad that they will now have a puppy to play with. They love to run around and have Red chase them. Good exercise for all three!!!

Oh yes, the chewing! DH was going to make us a new dinning room table, but I told him to wait until Red gets out of that stage. That would not be good if she chewed that.

I'd be willing to bet it was about 10x that that she spent. Haha. Oh well. IMHO free(or close to it) dogs are just as good. I think they show him though. And they got a friend for him, the same breed. But they don't have kids as of yet, so I guess that's the trade-off.

Shelters make me sad too. Sierra takes bottles back for the deposit $$, and she puts on "magic" shows at the end of the driveway for the neighbors for donations(really it is as hilarious as it sounds), and whatever else she can think of to raise money for the SPCA around here. Last Christmas we took in $30 or so, she was so proud, and the ladies made a big fuss over her. So far this year she's got nearly $100 in the baggie. Unfortunately she's not quite old enough to volunteer there, she has to be 16. I showed her the pics of Red and she thinks she's just the cutest little thing!

Andrea, Sierra sounds like the sweetest little girl. I just want to give her a HUGE hug right now! And I would also LOVE to see her magic show! You should get that on tape sometime!

I'm right there with you, free (or close to) is what I like too. We just want a family pet, not to show or breed. Just a fun loving dog we can love and give a good life too. Heck, I used to want to adopt instead of having my own children just because there were so many out there that weren't wanted. Makes me sad to think about it.

In two weeks, our little 4 lb puppy has gone up to almost 7.5 lbs! Her paws are starting to get big too. I was sort of hoping she was the runt of the litter and would stay small, but I don't think that is goign to happen! You can also tell that she is past that "baby" stage and is full blown puppy now! Wants to play ALL OF THE TIME! She's a lot of fun. She was only 6 weeks old when we got her, so she was still SO tiny and young. She LOVES Bridget (our 17 yo dog), especailly her tail!
