UPDATED OT Cardiologist visit tomorrow

UPDATE: The cardiologist put me on 25 mg 2x day to help my heart rate go lower, which should in turn lower my blood pressure. My bp was 150/104 and HR was 96. He said he was not as worried about my HR as the BP. I explained that this morning it was 126/65 while sitting down, but that when i get up and do anything it goes up to above 140/90 which is what he wants it below. I go back to my OB on Tuesday, so hopefully I wont be all nervous and worked up.

Some of you might remember that 2 weeks ago when I went in my bp was high and my doc sent me to l&d for an ekg. Well, I have been keeping track of my bp and my pulse (it comes up on the screen w/ the bp). My bp seems fine but my pulse is always at least 90, and mostly 100. If I get up to go to the bathroom, it shoots up. It was 120 the other day, and for no reason. I have read that it's normal, but my doc is sending me to the cardiologist tomorrow to put me on a beta block --if she feels I need it. Her basis is if I DO have white coat syndrome, and my bp is elevated every time I come in, she will not be able to tell if my pressure is rising or not. She kept the chart I made of my 2x a day pressure, and said that was very smart of me to chart.

I will let you guys know what the cardiologist says. Only 5 weeks left! I'm feeling super crampy and am having contractions all day long still. I also had a surprise baby shower yesterday that was SO awesome!!! Best time I've had in a long time! Got tons and tons of stuff....and I NEVER suspected it! Two surprise parties in 6 months for me, I'm feeling like a lucky girl.

Good luck tomorrow, Jessi! When I was in the hospital for Ev's birth, one of the doctors put me on labetalol for my high BP. I have been taking it ever since and it really does help...esp. when I go to my doctors appointments, my BP is not through the roof! The good thing is you can take it while pregnant and nursing.

Your surprise shower sounds like it was awesome! I cant believe you are so close to having your little guy!

Good luck today! Let us know how it goes. I have Postural Orthostatic Tachacardia Syndrome (POTS). When I change positions my pulse goes from 60 to 120-150. I get VERY lightheaded and sometimes pass out from it. I often fall down if I stand up too quickly or even just move my head too fast. It can be very embarassing. I am on a beta blocker for it, and it definelty helps. My only problem with it is that I already have low blood pressure and it lowers it even more. So I then get dizzy and lightheaded from such a low blood pressure. So I was told to eat more salt. But then I also have an inner ear condition and the non-med treatment for that is a low sodium diet! I can't win!

But anyway, good luck. My point of tell you all that is that I understand how you feel. And if the doc recommends meds and they are safe to take while pregnant, they really do help!

YEAH for a surprise shower. That was so sweet of everyone!

I'll try to find some pics, I didn't even take my camera bc I didn't know about it!

That makes me feel better Laurie and Tara. I am just nervous bc I have never had ANY heart issues. I know it will physically make me feel better, I just don't know much about them (even though my mom is on one). I guess the good in this is if I take the beta blocker, when I go into the dr office, my bp won't be effected by my nervousness bc of my pulse. I just again, don't know enough about the bb and I guess I will just have to trust the docs. Physically I am exhausted, when I just get up to go to the other room, It's exhausting...so this should help. I'll update you girls this afternoon. Thanks!

Aww... sorry you had to go on meds, Jessi! ((hugs)) but like you said, it'll do what it's supposed to do, and at least you won't have to worry about your white coat syndrome anymore.

If you decide to have #3, try a midwife.. you'd be shocked how laid-back, informal and relaxed your appointments will be. Like meeting with a girlfriend for tea! When I had an OB with my first pg, I was always nervous for appts.. partly first timer worries, partly that sterile office, paper gown, flourescent lights and brisk manner. I was shocked how much my appts changed when I had a midwife with baby #2. I actually looked forward to all my appts!

Anyhow, hope your last few weeks are boring and routine from this point forward.. and you can just look forward to meeting Mr. Judd now! Smile

HUGS honey. Do they think this is something that will go away after you deliver? I've had great luck on beta blockers and I can't think of any side effects that I've had either. I hope that it's smooth sailing from here to the end!
