Umbrella stroller?

Yo ladies!

Do you have a recommendation for a good, but not ridiculously expensive umbrella stroller? We have our mega-dady stroller that we want to have as a "home base" stroller (to keep wherever we live and use for walks and what not) but it does not travel well...so we need an umbrella stroller for airports and such. I know everyone talks about MacClaren (sp?)... but they seem really expensive?

Anyone have a recommendation for a umbrella stroller that will stand up for our traveling lifestyle, but won't break the bank?

Combi makes a good umbrella stroller. Especially if you can get it on sale. But IIRC it's about the $100 mark.

I have an Avalon that we've used for nearly 3 years and it's held up really well, but it's very basic and doesn't have much storage. It's been to Florida twice (including Disney parks) and Arizona once and ALL over the two cities I've lived in since being a mum. It cost $30.

I'll highly recommend the First Years Jet. I really like it and it's about $40 and holds my 5 yr old! It took a beating on the plane and at Disney and is still great!

If you are looking for something with more features you can get a GREAT deal on a Britax Blink at albeebaby. It has a foot rest and deep recline but it's a bit heavier.

I prefer the Jet, but D likes to have her feet up so we use the Blink more.

I'm looking for cheap (less than $50 for sure), light weight and not that fancy. Something that we actually don't care if it gets stolen/lost/broken (but isn't likely to get broken!) Smile Will check out your suggestions. Thanks!

Mara, I just bought the $15 one from Walmart because I like you didn't want to spend a ton of money but wanted something light weight to use through the airports. I love my jogger but its quite bulky. The umbrella one I have works just fine, I just wish it had a basket or something underneath for storage.

We have a Cosco one from Target that was about $25 and it is good for its purpose. I am like everyone else in that I wish it had more storage.. I debated the McLaren one also but I also did not want to spend that much on it

Steph, I go to Walmart a couple times a week cause its the only big grocery store near where I live, and I keep walking past those $15 strollers...and I was thinking of getting one of those...but I can see wanting at least a basket on the bottom to throw drinks, snacks, small toys, etc in!

Well, you could get one of those mesh bags that attach to the back of the stroller with your cheap umbrella stroller (they go over the handles to hang on the back).

The only caution there is that when Beni gets up out of the stroller if you have anything heavy on the back it will tip over.

But they are only like $5 or even less at some places.

Yeah, I don't want that tipping thing going on- I know exactly what you're talking about. Paying a little extra to have a storage basket on bottom is worth it to me.

Mara, I want the same thing you do--$50 or less, lightweight and portable, but also functional. We have cheap-o wal-mart one that we bought for Luke that I HATE. Luke refused to sit in it b/c it was uncomfortable, and it had no storage or shading for his head. I'd like one with a little sunshade, too. I'm going to check out some of these suggestions! Smile

That's an awesome deal, it was $49 at Albeebaby! I'd go for it...heck I just might order one myself! We're going to Charleston next month and I need a light weight stroller...

Can't beat $35 even (with free shipping)! It was $40 or $45 on Target depending on the color. I got it! Thanks ladies!

I don't think you'll be disappointed! I was very impressed when I took it out and set it up. The parent console thing is soooo handy too. What color did you get? We have the retro red - love it!

I see you've already got one now Mara but I wanted to share what we have in case Meagan is still looking.

It's not the perfect stroller but I think it was a good deal. My only complaints are I prefer the nicer buckles and the seat will not go to a 90 degree angle, which Jordan would like. She just holds on to the tray though when she is wanting to sit straight up. Then other times she will lean back and doesn't mind the slight recline.

The basket is very large for a lightweight stroller!

Wow, I'm really late on this thread, but I got a nice umbrella stroller at a yard sale for $5 almost 5 years ago. That thing has been with us to Oman and India and all over the US, and it's still going strong. My only complaint about that thing is that the handles are really low, and you can't adjust them. I don't know what brand it is; I'll have to check when I get home. It does have a small storage bin at the bottom though.
