Update - 18 mo check... Lainey's growth curve -

She had her 18 month check up and Dr. isn't concerned.
33" - 90%
23 lbs - 30%

granted, the 23 lbs was fully clothed and after breakfast and nursing.. so probably not her true weight but Im not worried. She is just a tall, skinny kid and is staying on the same curve as the last check up.

This is new territory to me. Rylee and Karly were a steady 90% height and 50% weight from birth on...

Here is the last few check ups for Lainey:

9 mo check - 18 lbs - 50% (height 97%)
12 mo check - 21 lbs - 40% (height 80%)
15 mo check - 21 lbs 12 ounces - 38% (height 75%)
18 mo - 22 lbs 15% (height ?)

(her 18 mo check up is next week sometime and she is actually 11 days away from 18 months old.. got that % off an online chart)

Is this concerning or do I just have a skinny kid? Her height is tall..she has grown taller each check up and while the % has decreased slightly each time she is still a tall kid for her age

I have just always heard they need to follow their own personal growth curve.. and she is slipping down hers.. not staying steady

Eve had a major fluctuation between checkups before. I forget which ones they were, but during one her height was at the 95 percentile, then the next she was at the 50th. She steadied out after that. She's at the 60th right now. If it bothers you, definitely bring it up with her ped. A lot of different things can go on between checkups. Sometimes they don't appear to grow any between two and then they have a big spurt. I'm pretty sure that as long as her numbers are increasing, she's OK.

My oldest was similar. He was 50% at birth, then his weight percentile kept dropping, he hit around 10% at one point and stayed there for a little while, then it started rising again. I think he eventually leveled off around the 25 percentile. He consistently gaining, he's just a skinny kid. We make sure we only buy him pants with an adjustable waist, but even on the tightest adjustment he's always having to pull them up.

Topher's weight percentile has dropped too, but it's never dropped as drastically as Nathan's did. I'd be concerned if she was losing weight, but not just a drop in percentile. Definitely bring it up to your pediatrician, though, if it's worrying you.

DS3 was that way. He started out at the 45-50th% but then around 10 months, he started slipping. Got down to the 10th%. He has pretty much stayed around 15-20th% ever since. He was/is fine. He's just on the smaller side. I was like you and compared him to my first 2 who were always 95th%. His doc just said every kid is different and he is just on the smaller side. Noah has followed his growth patterns. Lainey also started walking early and once they start walking, their weight tends to level off. I don't think you have anything to worry about but talk to her ped to ease your mind.

I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Is that weight on your home scale? I'd wait and see exactly what's happening at her checkup and see if your doc is concerned. My guess is s/he will not be. 12-18 months is a VERY active time! She might just be settling into a new curve for her.

Luke hasn't gained a single ounce since his 1 year check up, and that was almost 6 months ago. His weight percentile has dropped too, thought not as drastically as Lainey's. I think its pretty normal for it to slow down. As long as she isn't LOSING weight I wouldn't worry. But your pedi is always the best one to ask Wink

DD was that way. Actually she was about 50% through most of her first 8 months then she plummeted to the 10-15% which is where she's stayed ever since.

Her ped said (and I quote) "she's just adjusting to her genetic potential".

As long as she's thriving and you and your ped are happy with her overall growth I think she's just fine (and a total cutie pie to boot!)

It's hilarious to me that my 9 lb, 10 ounce (41 weeker) baby developed into a little bitty!
