    Default 37.5 Week Appointment

It was an interesting one (they all are anymore, haha). I did the whole urine/BP/weight thing, and that was all fine. The doctor told the MA to put me in the ultrasound room because he needed to check my fluid. I knew that was coming, as we discussed it last week. There's an actual u/s tech who works in the office and has a pretty modern machine with 3D abilities and all that, but if the doctor just does the u/s himself, he sends you to a different room with this REALLY OLD machine. Anyway, the old machine had moved from where it previously was (I've been through a LOT of appointments with three babies there, haha), so I was surprised to be walked clear to the opposite corner of the building.

The room was strange and had this weird half-table thing, so you had no real choice but to have your butt to the edge of the table for your exam, haha. So the MA had me climb up on the table fully clothed, thinking he'd take me back to his exam room for the cervix check. Well, he came in and saw me still dressed and told her he wanted to do the exam there, so they made me strip. So he comes back in and does the ultrasound... He scared me a bit, talking about how he could tell just by looking that the fluid was on the low end. He then proceeded to measure the fluid THREE times in all four corners of my belly. He got a low number the first time, but then the second two times, he got the same value I was running last week, so that was good. He was pleased enough with the fluid level (I was at 8-9, they induce under 5, I was 3-something when induced with DS2).

After that, he checked my cervix. I was a fingertip last week, this week he says we've progressed to 1-2cm, so that was good news. He said he can feel the baby's head and... he could feel the ridges on baby's head. Weird thing to think about! LOL. After that, he said we were done if I had no questions or anything, and he left the room for me to get dressed. I was up trying to wipe off that gel goo when he came back in... The dude has delivered two of my babies, but it's still awkward to be standing there not really covered by that little white paper cloth thing, LOL. He said he realized he forgot to show me the baby's heartbeat and wanted me to see it since we usually listen to it, but we didn't listen today. So he popped the u/s machine back on and showed me the baby's heartbeat.

After that, I had my NST and baby looked great as always. The doctor who reviews my NST's in the MFM department commented on how active the baby was. That was a relief because I feel like he actually has really, really slowed down in the movement department over the past few days. But he was extremely active before, so I think he's still at a normal level of activity... I hope. I'm still paranoid.

My doctor still wants to induce at 39 weeks if I haven't gone into labor by then. I don't really want to without a valid medical cause, so we'll see how that goes. I'm playing it by ear for now because I've been down the low fluid route before, and I sorta expect it to happen again. So we'll see.

Well that sounds like a great appt! I hope that baby boy makes it before 39 weeks so that they don't have to induce. My fluid was at 10 during my u/s, is 8-9 normal or getting low? They didn't really say anything to me so I figured it was fine.

8 is the lower limit of what they consider normal. Most doctors want to induce if it hits 5. I was 8-9, so the doc is happy enough with that for now. They keep a close eye on it because I was around this level with DS2 and within 4-5 days, I was down to a 3.something. I was sent to the hospital on the spot to be induced that day.

Your getting so close and will hopefully get to go into labor on your own! I was induced last time too with low amniotic fluid and I am scared everytime I go in for an appt. hoping that won't be an issue again.

What do they think is causing the low fluid with your pregnancies? When I had one of my scans I was at a 10.44 which they said was "low" but more like on the lower end of normal.. they said I could go as low as 8 without intervention - I never got that far..

Hang in there, mama.. I hope you get to go as long as your comfy with and not have to get induced!
