    Question Anxiety Meds??

Is anyone on anxiety meds? I am on Citalopram(generic for Celexa) 40MG/day and I have read it's okay in the 1st and 2nd trimester but should be stopped in the 3rd to prevent birth defects, heart problems etc.....I am going to ask my Dr. about it on Monday but I am just curious if anyone else is on anxiety meds and if you have talked to your Dr about it??

I'm not an anxiety meds but was on a couple other meds that I took upon myself to stop cold turkey. Dr said one was a definite stopper and the other we could discuss at my first appt but I'm not taking any chances.. I stopped them both.

I took Lexapro (basically the exact same thing as celexa), but I was only on it for a few months and decided to stop it before becoming pregnant. I had the lowest strength tablets and had been cutting them in half because I was having too nasty of side effects (strange because I had taken the same med years ago with no problems). So I wasn't taking much anyway, didn't really need to wean off of them or anything.

Not to greatly alarm you, especially on a Saturday afternoon, but SSRIs in pregnancy have been linked to severe birth defects. Citalopram is an SSRI, but I don't know if it's been implicated the same as Lexapro and Paxil has.

I would definitely talk to your doctor sooner rather than later.

I have done research and found that early pregnancy there is next to no harm but it's the end that is when the harm is done, I have my first doctor's appointment on this Monday so I will definitely be talking with my dr about it.

Hah, I love that stuff. My cousin had a baby last year on May 6th... I'm anxious to see how close this babe's birthday is with hers.
