    Default Dilating/effacing question

Just out of curiosity I browse the threads on babycenter and saw one about a girl who at 29 weeks found out she was dilated and effaced somewhat. how would you even find that out? Do your docs do internal exams at your regular visits?

Ya, mine either...maybe she was having contractions or something... I always take a bit of information, over think it, and end up worrying about crap needlessly.

My current worry? Baby's position- breech or vertex? Doc never seems to check that specifically either. With DD I don't remember ever being told she was in one position or the other, but I had a spontaneous, vaginal delivery so, they must have known she wasn't breech, right? I have an appointment tomorrow so, I'm going to ask.

    Lol, I do that also!

At my appt last Friday she said "If I had to guess, baby is head down but 34 weeks is still kind of early." But I know I feel his feet up high. So yeah, definitely ask yours tomorrow

If you're having any kind of symptoms of labor - tight tummy, back spasms, etc. - anything that can possibly be a contraction trigger or side effect, they may check you to see if they are BH - which do nothing - or true contractions which will dialate and efface..

I was checked at 18w due to contractions thankfully no progress. 4 weeks ago though my cervix is softening and I am a fingertip dilated but thankfully no more progress since then.

I was NEVER checked with DD and I had her by planned c-section at 38w4d because she was breech. At my midwife appt last Friday I told her I thought I was having Braxton Hicks and she said that was normal and didn't check anything.

I was checked at 26 because of contractions and found I was a fingertip. When I was checked at 28 to make sure I wasn't really dilating they found I was 1cm and had nearly no cervix left. And you guys know the story from there. For a normal pregnancy, they usually check at 36 weeks or later if at all.
