That's how I am also. I felt super bad about the iPad. My DH told me to stop bc it's a family toy anyway and Lucasnwill enjoy it too when he's old enough for videos, etc.
I kind of want a pack n play but I've never had one and wonder how much use it will really get.
We used our pack n play everyday with DS. He refused to sleep in his crib and it was easier with him being on the feeding tube to have him in our room. We also used it when going on trips. Ours has the changing table and bassinet with it so it was used a lot.
I am going to use it again with this one until I see if she will tolerate the crib (although we don't know where we would put that :/
When DD was first born I borrowed a PnP to have on the main level. It had a bassinet attachment too. We used it for naps & diaper changes when she was wee. Since I had a c-section I didn't want to have to be going up and down the stairs all day long. Then once she got older we primarily used it for travel. You can get the used for a decent price but they are NOT fun to wash so make sure they're clean (if you're phobic like me).
I was just going to use our Travel Lite Crib (small PnP) in our room this time but DH really liked having a bassinet last time so we decided to get one of those again for our room. When we go camping in the trailer it's nice to just take the top of the bassinet for baby, then we can put him/her anywhere in the trailer and move him/her without waking. So we bought a used bassinet for $40 for our room and now I'll put the Travel Lite Crib on the main level. I think it will be a nice safe place for baby where DD won't accidentally step on him/her.
I bought a new pack n play with DS2 that had the newborn napper attached and changing table but he hated it!!! He loved the swing the most. I have no idea what I am doing with this baby. I guess I will try everything until I figure it out. The newborn rock n play was a life saver for us as well!
If you are wanting to get a PnP I would totally recommend watching some resale places like Craigslist or a facebook group or checking out a consignment sale like Just Between Friends or Jack N Jill. You can do a search for those type of sales to see what's in your area. If you are patient you can usually get a really good deal on a nice one that way b/c they pop up for sale quite often. We have used ours alot when traveling and at home. DS2 slept in one in our room for his first 3 or 4 months.
ETA: Also meant to say they are good for a while too. DS2 (2 yrs old) just slept in his all last week while we stayed at my In-Laws and he still has room before he outgrows it.
