    Default Glucose test

So, when I was at my doctors office and I saw him last week, he said my glucose test would be at this next visit (Feb. 21st) he also said it would be easier bc there would be no fasting. I didn't ask anymore questions and called back to get their fax number and asked the nurse about it. I told her he had mentioned I didn't have to fast.. and she asked a few questions. Like if diabetes runs in my family, which one of my grandparents from both sides do have it. Then she told me I did need to fast from midnight and not eat until after my appt.

I'm confused. Did you ladies have to fast when you did yours? Should I call back and ask again? Ugh..

generally with the 1 hour test you do not need to fast, I am diabetic and have never had to fast for the one hour. My OB's office actually told me that fasting with it generally makes you sick to your stomach when you are pregnant. Just eat healthy that day. And yes, they did have me do the test even though I am diabetic to make sure my meds were doing their job.

Nidia, with my one hour she said that I could eat before the test, but absolutely no sugar after midnight. She told me to have toast and water for breakfast.

The label on my drink said to fast for 2 hours before I drink it, but of course I didn't read that part and drank my coffee about an hour before and when I told the doc she said that you don't really have to fast, they just do it as a precaution...
As for the 2 hour, it could be that they want to do a couple of sets of blood (before you drink it, and then an hour later... so I would understand an hour long appt, but not sure about the 2??
May be worth calling back so you're sure.

I've always had to fast. No history of diabetes ever.

My doctor ordered the 1 hour, but the hospital I went to to have it done said they don't do a 1 hour anymore, just a 2 hour so it took forever for them to figure out how to put in the order. They said a lot of hospitals are switching to a 2 hour, so yours may be one of them. I was told I didn't need to fast, but I did and the nurse said I was a "good girl" ha ha ha

It must depend on the doctor, because my doctor said i didnt need to fast. I also have diabetes that runs in the family.

I'd definitely call! LOL! Sounds like there's a lot of Drs who do things differently!
