Had to tell the boss...

So I have mentioned that I teach kindergarten. Well I have a behavior case in my room and it is a pretty dangerous situation. Today, that student, chucked 5 chairs over his head and across the room. I had to evacuate the other students and call for help. I just stood in the doorway because I was not going to put myself in that situation to be hurt. Normally, I would bear hug the child so he couldn't hurt himself or others, but I am not taking any chances. So I had to explain to the principal how I would be handling these instances in the future. SMH I wasn't planning on telling til at least 8 weeks, but it was really scary today.

I teacher Kindergarten. It is really sad that there are such problems at such a young age. Obviously, there is something wrong going on. IT just takes a long time to figure it out in kids so young.

I hear ya! You have to keep you safe! It is sad all of these things! today was crazy day I think. My reg kids were off, and our 2 severe behavior kids in the building both "went off" not sure what the one (second grade did and he was scary last year in first!) but his teacher (who scares ME! and I went to shcool with her!) was in tears after school. The other kid had to be pulled off of the bus he apparently went off before getting on the bus (throwing chairs) and it took 2 male administrators to get him into the building. I hope you dont have any more instances, or maybe they could remove the child to another room?(we had that happen with our one last year)

Yeah, It was a pretty terrible day all around. It was tough to get through anything even with my good kids. I guess I will blame it on the meds and the second day in a row we haven't had recess. My principal's first comment was to have him put in the other room, but the other teacher has her hands full too. I am not a fan of that solution. We just don't have much support at our school even if he gets diagnosed with something. We have one full-time spec ed teacher for the whole building k-8th. And we have a lot of cases so that not many kids get the support they need. Kindergarten is on the bottom of the totem pole too since we are not a testing grade. :/

UGH. we have these two kids in our building bc the head of spec ed just flat out said that she's not moving them. They would benefit from being in the district's school that has the resources etc for ED kids. Good luck!

Does anyone know what was setting this little guy off so badly today? Sad

We have no idea. It is pretty spontaneous. I am sure it is because there is something he wants or needs and doesn't have the words to express it. It just comes on and instead of asking or saying something, he just starts chucking things and tearing things up.

Would it be possible to ask for a TA or something? Even if you have to ask like a local college (or even a high school that does early childhood education classes, I took that one, we did a pre-school type thing for about twenty or so kids) it would be a cheap way to get some help in the class, and to give a student some hands on with the kids.
