Ok so what's the deal with lunch meats and not being able to eat them?
Is it safe to have if I have the deli fresh slice it instead of buying it pre-packaged?

:lurk:
Deli meat can carry listeria bacteria which is more dangerous when pregnant. I don't think having it sliced at the deli makes it any safer. You have to heat it to steaming to kill any possible bacteria. I don't eat it while pregnant, but pretty much live on it pp!
So if I microwaved it until it "popped" (read: hot hot hot lol) that would be ok?
Yes, that would be okay. It's also the same for hot dogs - as long as they're heated up to steaming it's fine.
:puke: Sooo not a hot dog fan.. Never have been. Kinda wish I was since they're cheap eatin! lol..
I have to be in the mood for hotdogs. Since I've been pregnant, I've eaten ONE and thrown it right back up. But, generally I like hot dogs maybe once a month. I have to get beef and DH has to fry them. Not that I'm picky or anything
The first thing I wanted after having DS was Subway!
ETA: and of course there is a Jimmy John's ad at the top of my prg.org page! How mean!
I lovvvvvvvve Subway! But I get their steak and cheese and make them toast it.. so I'm covered there. YAY! :clappy:
My midwife suggests steaming your lunch meat when you bring it home from the store, then you can just put it in a new container and plop it in the fridge. That way it's all ready to go. I think the listeria mainly comes from the meat slicing mechanisms.
I will be staying away from lunch meat entirely. I have had food poisoning twice from lunch meat and it is not a pretty sight. Definitely heat it to steaming and if you do the whole package in advance, make sure it is in a really cool place in your fridge and eat it right away after you take it out. In other words, don't pack it and take it with you unless you can keep it under 40 degrees.
