Thumbs down No more zofran for me (TMI)

As much as I *LOVE* zofran because it's helped me get past the nausea enough to survive work and whatnot, I can not take it anymore. I am so insanely constipated, and I know that's what's causing it. I'm actually really scared that it's beyond what I can take care of at home. I'm scared that I'm impacted and I'm going to need to go to the ER or something. I don't know what to dooooo... I tried glycerin suppositories. No help. I drank milk of mag, but that's probably going to take forever. I'm going to die.

This is what I would do if i was in your situation:

Miralax, titrate up to effectiveness...in other words, increase amount daily until you poo. Maybe two packets first day. Drinks tons of water, some juice. Walk a lot...at least twice daily, at least 30 min/day, if not more. I'd use one glycerin a day until poo. If you have bad pain I'd go to your primary care provider and try to stay out of the ED. In general, I do everything in my power to stay out of the ED...they are less invested in your well-being and I find they just do whatever to get you on your way (not from personal visits because like I say I rarely ever go, but I get this impression from friends/collegues that work in EDs and from their stories...also, from reading ED reports on patients of mine). Enemas are an option too although I'm less certain about safety and would want guidance from my doc.

I had this problem as well. Is there anything that you eat (not pregnant) that hurts your stomach? Eat that. Like, I can't eat icrecream or drink apple juice without it going right through me...so when I got constipated, I ate icecream and drank apple juice.. and ate a (yes one) prune. I went within a couple of hours.

Try not tsking your prenatal for a day or 2, or even till you go. Your system may not be tolerating the extra iron. With my 2nd I was on meds and that happened, but I knew I got constipated from the prenatal with my first, so I tried doing that and taking docalax (presribed by my dr) and skipping my prenatal first. It worked the best. Then, I switched to a woman's one a day, which has basically the same vitamins, but less iron. Also, be sure that you are drinking tons of water, and increase fiber... Especially fruit. Good luck, just know that this too shall pass (no pun intended )

I gave up Zofran for the same reason. I crying I was in so much pain. I took Colace, drank lots of water, prune juice, and hot water with lemon juice (per my midwife's recommendations). I think the hot water with lemon is what did the trick for me. I think I went a 7 days without going. I gave up Zofran on the 5th day, because I was wondering what was causing the constipation. Sure enough I google it and the first thing that popped up was that Zofran causes constipation.

    Hope you get relief soon.

Nothing to add that hasn't been said.. So sorry you're hurting. Hopefully it will all work itself out and you won't need any Dr's assistance!!!!

I feel for you. I got SO constipated when I was pg with DD and I was even on any meds. It's terrible. Hugs!

    TMI:

Thanks ladies! OMG, I broke down last night and had DH buy me enemas. I have never used one before and I'm not fond of anything that goes in the out door (lol), but I was desperate. I've been constipated plenty of times before, but NEVER this bad. Anyway, omg... My DH gave me the enema. Now THAT is love. See, pregnancy is a bonding experience, hahaha. Anyway, it didn't work at first. I was able to hold it in several minutes, but then when I went, just the enema liquid came out. I was discouraged as it was my last result. But then I sat around for like a half an hour and eventually *something* worked, THANK GOD!! I was so terrified that I was going to have to go to the doc. I apparently overdid it, because after that, we were going to bed and I had to go again and it had become more like diarrhea. Whatever, I'll take it!!
