Weight (Spin off thread for Heather.. )

I so hear ya girl. I don't want to put on as much this time either. I'm not sure of the final count but I know I was over 200lbs last time. That was depressing for me. I've only gained 6 in total but 3 were the last 2 weeks, so it's ramping up. I'm at 159 now though so there IS a chance I could stay under 200! I started out weighing less than with DD so *fingers crossed*. I know it's healthy to gain SOME weight but let's not go overboard here!

You and I are at about the same weight (Well I'm a few more Lol but I started around 155..) but I think I'm a little shorter than you so I'm more tubby lol..

Last time I got over 200  But I was battling a guy who was making my life hell.. so I did a LOT of stress eating. I don't think I'll have those same issues this time so I shouldn't be putting on as much weight. Unless *I* have a growth spurt! ROFL

I'm at 152-153. I fluctuate especially depending on what I eat.. like salty stuff. Monday I had pizza and Tuesday morning I was at 154 HAHAHA.. then I drank lots of water and flushed it out and was back down. Anyway, with DS I weighed 201 the day he was born. YIKES!!!!! I got down to 165 by the time I went back to work after 6 weeks. I truly hope not to go over 175 this time. Really hope I stay in the 160s tops.

LOL, oooh stress eating. I find with pregnancy I have 'trying not to get sick' eating. Ugh. Also, all the bad things sound so good!!!!

So I was at 153 pre pregnancy this time...164 pre-pregnacy last time. I'm at 159 now. So I'm still below my pre-pregnancy with dd! w00t! In the months prior to getting pg I lost 25 lbs...so that will definitely give me some wiggle room. I hated seeing 200 on the scales last time...ugh.

I mainly am concerned because of how it makes me feel being so big and how much more work it is to get it off afterwards. KWIM?

Here's my stats..

Pre-preggo with DD = 150
Final weight with DD = 215

Pre-preggo with DS ( Yahoo God that feels SOOOO cool to say!!) 150 (but add 5 because of a medicine I had to stop) so 155
Final weight.....??

Lol

I *HOPE* not to go over 185.. It took me 2 attempts in 3 years to get the weight off! :annoyed:

Adriana, I was 165 with DS and ended at 201. This time I was at 145 and hope to stay under 175 Smile LOL I was 20 pounds heavier with DS so I had all kinds of issues with swelling badly and BP but it's starting to look like my BP just goes up when I am pregnant. IDK. We will see how it goes this time.

I hear ya...the weight is so hard to get off after! Do you think that only gaining 30 lbs is do-able? I'm not sure I could do that. I mean, I'm already up 6 and baby is tiny. Well, your baby is bigger I guess. LOL.

Great idea! I probably won't start it until Monday. I am baking some pineapple zucchini bread tomorrow to take to Florida, Thursday is our Christmas party for work and Friday we leave to FL.. will be back Sunday night. I am off Monday so I can start it then! I plan on getting on my elliptical too but I haven't yet lol

Heather, I love my elliptical and usually watch a show when I am on it to pass the time Smile So I always record my shows. The first trimester sucked and I couldn't even stand the thought of working out but now I am feeling up to it!

I think this is where I'm at. I don't think anyone really LIKES the idea of working out at first.. but for me, once I get into the groove of it, I feel so awesome doing it every or every other day.. it becomes second nature. If it helps to keep the lbs off - and get my body prepared for baby to come more easy, I'm all for it. Smile Even something is better than nothing..

I never had BP or any health issues with DD.. but this is 10 years later.. I never know what might develop.. I'm no spring chicken anymore. Lol

I love music too, Adriana and I listen to it when I jog. Jogging is my favorite. I wish it didn't get dark so early now because that's exactly my exercise of choice. It's too risky jogging right now. I love in the country so there's not much light.

Can I make you all feel better about how little you have gained so far... I'm up 15 pounds!! Blum 3 I put on about 45 pounds with my last couple pregnancies. Thankfully it does come off by about 6 months pp for me, but I still wouldn't mind gaining just a tad less...

I think for me the key to the weight loss is staying active (notice I did NOT say working out... I don't do that), and breastfeeding. I do know for some women that breastfeeding makes their bodies hold on to more weight though... By staying active I mean taking 5 kids with me for a day at the zoo, or running errands with 5 kids at 3 different stores over the course of a couple hours.

Ugh, I hate this topic. I swear I think my high BP at my OB visits is due in part to the fact that they weigh me right before they do my BP. I pack on the weight FAST. Every time I go to an appointment, I'm terrified that my doc is going to tell me I'm gaining too much too fast. I'm ALREADY up between 15-20 lbs. *Hangs head in shame* My only saving grace is that I start out at 115 lbs, tops. My other two pregnancies, I've gained 40-45 lbs and it comes off pretty quickly. I usually lose all but 10 lbs of it by the time I go back to work, then as soon as I go back to work, I drop back to my usual under-weight self almost instantly (the only perk of not getting lunch breaks, lol).

I haven't been paying much attention to weight this pregnancy, I put the scale away, lol
When I had my 15 week checkup last week I was at 143lbs late in the day... I was 129 pre pregnancy so I have gained 10-13lbs.
I have started running on the treadmill to keep healthy and hopefully be able to continue so I can drop the weight after baby.

So in light of the convo here, DH and I have been discussing weight loss and healthier living.. I think for us it's just easier to eat craptastically.. and not put a ton of thought into eating well. I mean seriously.. how hard is it to open a can of green beans.. or put spinache/lettuce leaves in a bowl with some FF or low fat dressing on it.. Pure lazy..

So we're going to get a grocery list together with approved foods and start up with healthier eating. yay! Biggrin Something to look fwd too!

I guess I should hurry up and finish off the fudge in the fridge from Saturday night. Lol

Ya, DH and I did this Slow Carb diet (how I lost my 25lbs) for 3 months before getting pg. It was really easy to lose weight on it without even exercising. It's all about what you eat. We pretty much at no sugar, no dairy (except a tiny bit of cream in our coffee), and no fast carbs (pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, etc.). Our meals were pretty much meat, beans and veggies. There were so many combinations we could do...and it really worked at losing weight. We also started each morning with a high protein breakfast to get our metabolisms going. Eggs, bacon & spinach are a great combo. I'd often make a fritatta that lasted us 4 days...oh, I also sometimes put lentils in it.

Anyways, we stopped eating like that when I got pg but I'll definitely do it again. It was SO easy to lose weight while still eating good food. Oh, and I forgot, Saturday was cheat (aka binge) day! YUM!

Just to jump in on this topic Wink with a little "story" for you...

With my first, I gained 35 lbs. I stopped working out completely during my 2ww and barely did a thing my whole pregnancy in complete paranoia of causing a m/c or something. I ate a lot of fast food because of work too. I'll mention that I started off at 116 (I'm 5'3) so I was in the high range of "normal" with gain but honestly, my OB gave me some crap about it because he didn't think I needed to gain THAT much with how short/small I am. I also developed pre-e at 40 weeks which may or may not have been related to my lack of exercise. Anyway, it mostly came off with a LOT of working out (mainly running with DD in a jogger) within about 6 months, then I lost the rest plus another 5 lbs after I stopped BFing (I'm one of those who has a hard time dropping weight while BFing...lame!)

My second pregnancy, I was determined to gain closer to 25 because it was so hard to lose previously. So I kept running up until 35 weeks (yeah I'm sure I was a riot to watch!) and ate a ton better aside from my horrible donut craving that I occasionally gave into. I started that pregnancy out at 113 and guess how much I gained?? 38! I was basically the same delivering weight! GRR! But aside from the actual gain, I mostly felt great right up until delivering, had a ton more energy, found labor much less exhausting, didn't develop pre-e (again could be totally unrelated) and the baby weight came off SOOOOOOOO much easier. I mean, I still had to work, but nowhere near as hard as the first time.

SO moral to my story is that I'm super pro-exercise during pregnancy because holy cow I cannot TELL YOU how big of a difference it made for me, but it did NOT help me prevent weight gain. Sometimes I think your body is going to gain what it needs to. Not that we can't *try* our hardest to prevent what we think are unnecessary pounds, but just don't get frustrated if it doesn't seem to slow the gain because I swear in the long run it'll be hugely beneficial.

Climbing off my soap box now... Wink

Skinny Minny! : )~~~ :biglaugh:

I agree that our bodies will gain what they want to gain.. it's like when we're NOT pregnant.. your body has a weight that it gravitates to and that's that!

And never mind the fact I went over 170 already. :x Dang it. I'm doomed. Lol

With DS, my starting weight was 120lbs and the day I delivered I was 147lbs so I gained 27lbs but with breastfeeding, I went way under my pre-pregnancy weight and have struggled to put it back on.

This time I plan to gain a little extra to save for breastfeeding. My starting weight was 117lbs and I'm currently 124lbs at almost 19 weeks (gained 7lbs, not bad considering how sick I was). Typically I live on vegetable soups and salads, fish and shrimp but my blood pressure is really low so my doc said I should increase my sodium intake a little. I'm moving over to the chips n dip post now....

Ashley, you're awesome.. a fellow runner hehe. I haven't ran/jogged since September though.. scared to now.. I know I'll be so pitiful LOL But I need to try!

Lara, please eat some chips and dip girlie hehe.. that's what I need to avoid for sure and eat more veggies and low sodium foods. My BP is crazy when I'm pregnant. I thought if I was in better shape this time it'd be better.. but it doesn't seem to be the case. Sigh.

So I'm up 10 lbs at the 16 week mark. I thought that was decent but the stupid weight calculator says I'm 3 lbs over the HIGH end. It says I should be between 158 and 160 lbs this week and I'm 163 lbs. Poo Poo to you weight calculator!

This is the stupid tool I used. Blum 3

LOL, I think that the calculator is on crack. It says at full term (40 weeks pregnant) I should weigh between:

178 and 188 lbs
Total Target Weight Gain: 25 to 35 lbs.

Ok, while I'd LOVE it if that were true, I don't think it's realistic. I'm going to try to stay under 200 lbs. That's a good goal, right? Blum 3 That gives me 37 lbs more to gain. Blum 3

Ladies - if you have the energy to workout - DO IT! I didn't work out at all while pgn with DD, but I was in good shape going in to it, then just got too sick. However, your body remembers, and although I gained *net* 27 (down 6, up 33) I was back to my pre-pgn weight at 2 weeks postpartum. And then a couple more months to actually look like it again Smile I'm very excited this time around because I have been slowly gaining energy, and although I've certainly had horrible days, I don't really have much m/s anymore - so I think that I will be able to start working out again soon, even if slowly. Helps the delivery, helps the recovery. I'm 17 weeks now, and I'm pretty sure I'm still about 2 pounds under pre-pgn.... but with the complete stoppage of working out, I tend to lose muscle and water weight in the muscles, so I'm not surprised. DH even said at a couple points I looked malnourished. I got back up to my weight with DD at 20 weeks, so looks like I'm on track for that again. And yes - eating healthy is always a good thing (as I sit here eating candy, but in general, I eat quite healthy). So lots of veggies, and get those butts moving - since some of us are desperate to have that kind of energy!

Heather: UGH I hate that calculator! Says I'm 1 lb over too. :blob1: Oh well...this is the only time I can not stress [as much] about weight so I try to take advantage of that. Being 5'3, a few pounds looks like 10 on me! This is the worst time for me for weight gain too because I'm finally not feeling nauseous but in "survival" mode where if something sounds good I eat it right away in fear of nothing sounding edible later....I forget that I'm not going to be nauseous later so I don't have to pound down every craving!

Dinzy: agreed that if you somehow find the energy to work out it pays back big time.

You are 2 pounds over the high end of of your target weight range. During your first trimester, you should gain between 2 and 4 lbs. Thereafter, you should be gaining between 0.5 and 0.77 lbs. per week until the end of your pregnancy.

At full term (40 weeks pregnant) you should weigh between:

161 and 171 lbs
Total Target Weight Gain: 15 to 25 lbs.

Haha.. yeah right!! I'm already at 158, I don't think so.. although I would LOVE to stay below 175. Time to get my butt in gear since the Holidays are pretty much over!

Ashley - Same here with the "survival mode". I was horribly nauseated until about 17-18 weeks, and I just ate any time the urge to eat struck me... Otherwise, I might never eat again, or so it felt. It's hard to get out of that mode now. Although, our whole house just had a massive stomach virus, so that probably helped out a little in the weight department (lol... not my ideal weight-control plan). Wink

I weighed myself this morning after gorging at my parents the last 5 days. I am up 4 lbs, lol. We will see where I am in a few days. I am still pretty nauseated most days and still get sick a few times a week. :/

Christine, as bad as it is being sick all the time - I sure am glad to find someone that's still nauseated most days. I'm nauseated at some point EVERY day, but sometimes it's only right after I eat or when I don't eat or...whenever it feels like making me sick. I throw up a little bit atleast 5 times a week still.

As for weight, I'm down 17 lbs since the beginning of pregnancy. But I'm overweight anyway, so the doctor said she's not worried at all, as long as the baby is growing. But that 17 lbs is because I can't eat without getting sick. It makes it to the point that I don't WANT to eat because I know I'll throw it back up - but then I get sick too if I don't eat. It's a catch 22. I still get upset sometimes because I'll go like...a whole day with no sickness and then throw up the next day and I'm all upset because I keep hoping that it will go away.

ha ha ha, too bad I was sick til 24 weeks with DS too!

Jessica~I have come to the point where I might as well enjoy the food while I eat despite the fact that I know it will probably come right back up. :/ But I figure it is better than not eating and just feeling nauseated all the time. This past week I ate Dairy Queen and it came back up in a projectile way. Would I go back and not eat it? Heavens no! LOL I also figure that in a couple months I will be diagnosed with GD again and then I won't be able to eat anything good so I will just deal and enjoy for now. Biggrin
