Budget question

boy, I am full of questions today.

Heres one, what do you spend, on average, for groceries per month. And how many are you feeding? Our bill seems really high $1k for last month, but we aren't buying crazy stuff.

I spend about $300-350 a month at the grocery store for the 3 of us. Now really, Andy's pretty much gone 10-12 days out of the month so that has cut my bill from $450-500 a month to the 300-350 it is now. I also buy almost all organic products and what isn't organic is store brand. To be fair, we eat out about 2 meals a week too, so that's another $200+ a month. However, I bring all my lunches to work, I never eat lunch out, and Noah's school provides him with lunch and 2 snacks and he goes 3 times a week.

Maybe 300 a month? But, like Jessica, DH is gone 3+ days a week. I spend about $30 a Saturday on produce at the Farmer's Market, and then probably $70 a week at Trader Joes. But, that doesn't count meat. I buy that in bulk from a local organic farmer, so that runs us about $200/twice a year. And I'm really only feeding me and Jackson on days when Donnie's gone, Colby doesn't quite count as one yet.

Although Costco trips always slam us, even though we only go every other month now. We buy a lot of sodas and beer there for when guests come over.

I'd say we average about $400 - $450 per week. Greg and I pack our lunches during the week and we eat out about 2 nights a week (weekend usually). Also, Josh gets snacks and lunches provided by his school.

Amy - $1k...Yikes!

We have a budget of $1,000 for "grocery and household" So that includes everything, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, diapers, wipes etc. You know, everything we buy in bulk at Costco or on Amazon as well as everything we buy at the grocery store. However, I will tell you right now that we go over that every month. My guess is we probably spend easily $800 just on groceries (food). And the kids eat at school M-F for lunch and snacks (I feed them breakfast and I provide their milk because I only want them drinking organic). I also eat lunch out almost every day, I'm really bad about bringing my lunch despite my best efforts to change that habit LOL . I will say that we buy a ton of fresh produce, which is more costly than buying pre-package food, and at least 80% of it is organic. I also buy almost all organic dairy, which of course is much more expensive. Our groceries in general here are very expensive, everyone comments on that when they come here to visit. And I don't buy anything in store brand...I'm not big on generics. I also don't do good with coupons...if I take them with me I always forget to give them to the cashier!

In addition to that we have a $50 weekly budget for eating out, which we use to eat out every Friday night, and then we each get $30 a week for lunches ($6 a day) but Dali doesn't eat lunch so he just saves his and spends it on random stuff he wants. Biggrin

ROFL I was going to say. . .. LOL

MAN some of you guys are much better off then we are. Like Carrie, our 1k includes household stuff, shampoos, cleaners, not just food. Ive gotten pretty good at not eating out a lunch etc but still its really expensive. I am trying to really cut back but I am not sure where? Its not like we are eating steak and lobster or anythng!

We also eat out maybe 2x a week --mostly lunch on weekends, but I didn't include that and am trying to cut back on that as well.

Amy, I ran to the store on Monday night for "a couple quick things", I literally spent no more than 15 minutes in there, and I spent $100. It's ridiculous how quickly groceries add up.
