Hey Kristen

I saw in another thread you were wanting to paint your front door. This is one of our summer projects too. All our trim outside needs freshend up, so I think I'm just going pick out fresh new colors and paint the door as well.

What colors are you considering? I'd love to see what you're thinking of for some inspiration for my own project.

(I thought I'd just start a new thread instead of hijacking the QOTD thread)

Yep! I would love to get ours done next week! The paint on it is chipping and it just looks bad. Right now it is a pinkish light brown, I hate it. I am going to paint it dark, dark brown. I'm hoping it might have the look of a stain even though I'm not able to stain it? I really wish I could just stain it, or even get a whole new front door, but there's no way.

Here's kind of the brown I'm going for, http://holy-craft.blogspot.com/2011/01/silhouette-house-numbers.html

Ohh! I like that. I really like that door too!

Our door is currently an oak color. I thought when we moved it it was all solid wood, but apparently it's only part wood. There is an oval glass insert and some sort of plastic (WFT?) that holds the center decorative part in place. I'm totally bummed because, I would have just sanded and stained if it was all wood. I'm honestly not even sure the paint will take, but the door looks like crap. The wood part looks fine, but the plastic insert thingy has the faux wood finish chipping off and is sun- bleached. I need to paint both sides, the inside plastic part is scratched from the dogs jumping on it. This door will get replaced eventually, but we have so many other projects that need done before so I want it to look nicer until it goes to the curb.

I think I'm going to do some sort of fun pop of color on there, since it won't be there forever. I just need to decide what....

When we moved into our new house a few months ago the front door was very sun bleached and didn't look good. DH stripped it and re-stained it, which was a HUGE pain in the neck and seriously took days on end (several steps, huge mess). He was so proud of himself because he is really not that handy, and to this day when we pull out of the driveway he will still stop sometimes and go "wow, look at that door" just to brag on himself. LOL

Kristen, I love the door in that blog!

Carrie- that's funny! We have a former owner of our house who stops by from time to time. The first time he did it, DH was on the roof (hanging Christmas lights, maybe) and he says, "Hey! How do you like that roof? You won't find any weak spots up there! I added extra layers of wood up there. Thing is Strong!" Sooo bizzare! :biglaugh: Then he says, "Are you enjoying those rose bushes in the backyard?" We didn't have the heart to tell him, that was one of the first things we pulled!

I hate painting, but we have 2 doors outside that need it. I painted our front door last spring -- a dark maroon / almost brown color. I have leftover paint and need to paint the other doors (downstairs walkout, garage side door) but I hate painting!! Love that door you posted, Kristen.

That is awesome Carrie!!! I would SO love to restain ours, it's just not possible. It would be on the door, DH could take it off, but there are windows on each side of the door that are so bad and would be impossible to strip.

Hopefully I'll get it done next week, I'll post pics when I'm done!
