Joshua's Birthday Party!

Today was Joshua's party and it was great! Last year Joshua had a double ear infection the day of his party, he was fine the day before and then that day he was miserable and we spent 2 hours that afternoon at urgent care. So I was nervous and hoping this year would be better and it was fantastic! He was in a great mood all day and managed to stay up from 7 to 2 so that the people who came from Raleigh got to spend 4+ hours with him. He made out like a bandit, I keep telling DH to tell MIL no more gifts for Christmas, she probably won't listen but I want him to tell her to save her money and come up here and visit instead (which she never does), as it was she went overboard buying him 3 gifts when we asked her to get him just one thing she did that plus two others. Anyway, it was a great day! I'm just going to share the FB album, so here are all the photos.

That's great he had such a fun time!! It looks like he got a lot of fun things. Don't worry about him getting spoiled...he deserves it! Biggrin My family always goes way overboard, too. They just like having an excuse to shop for him, so why not right?! I'm sure Joshua will have fun playing with all of his new toys the next few days!

Thank you!!

I just have a few issues with DH's family specificially SIL & MIL (you may remember some of this) and it just never seems to change so it's rather frustrating. MIL could see how much stuff he got so why say oh I have to see what he got so I can figure out what else to get him for Christmas? She works in OT at her school yet she never seems to get him appropriate gifts and she likes to shop Black Friday so I'm worried she will get a bunch of crap then like she did last year.

Honestly doesn't he deserve her time? She is always complaining about not have enough money to come visit (it's 2 hours from her house) but yet she can spend so much on gifts. So I'd rather she save her money, he doesn't need a bunch of stuff he needs her time. His first whole year we went once a month because we also went to see my mom. I think she got used to that, then we started going less and less and now I don't even go at all (my mom lives near us now). A few weeks ago DH & I went on our first date night since Joshua was 3 months old. MIL was supposed to come up to watch him and at the last minute SIL announces that she's going away for the weekend and needs MIL to babysit. She wanted us to drop Joshua off at SIL's instead, I was not comfortable with it so I brought my mom over to babysit instead. MIL is over at SIL's all the time yet never comes up here except for his birthday party and maybe once more the whole year. I'm just tired of it all, MIL kept telling Joshua how much she loves him, really then why not show him instead of buying him gifts. Sorry for going on and on it's just a sore subject with me.

I'm so glad he had a great time and I hear you on the gifts. I understand your issue with your MIL I have the same issue with my Mother, not that she spends so much but she goes out of her way and is always with my sister and her kids. This year she has told me and my girls that she has no money for gifts and I think it's just wrong especially when Emma & Kailee understand that she spends a lot more time and money on the twins.

It's like a beating a dead horse and you can tell her a million times regardless she is going to do what she wants, just take what ever she gives you for Joshua that is inappropriate or not necessary and either return it, donate it or re-gift it! I've learned that's the easiest thing to do to keep the peace and not make myself too insane.

I am hoping that DH will finally open his mouth to her and tell her please don't buy us anything just come up and visit instead. He did put a status on FB saying that Joshua has plenty of toys now so maybe they will at least read that. If I say anything to anyone in his family then I am seen as the bad guy, making trouble. I just can't stand it, you know when it's about your kid(s) it's even worse especially when they can't stand up for themselves. I'm not even sure I'm getting any of them anything for Christmas, SIL couldn't even come to the party yesterday since her son has a karate tournament next weekend he had to practice yesterday and there was no one else to take him. I'm wondering if really she didn't want to come, to face me after what happened with the date night a few weeks ago. It's like don't we have enough to deal with, we need people who can be there and if you can't well then maybe you don't deserve to be a part of our lives. She doesn't deserve to be his grandma if all she can do is buy him stuff and spend time with him when he's brought to her and even then she is always worrying about something, there's some drama, I've never seen her actually interact with him since he was a baby.

Thanks!

We had photos taken a few weeks ago and I just got the CD today. Joshua was completely uncooperative. He wasn't cranky or anything, we went to a park and he just wanted to go the whole time we were there. He wouldn't sit or stand for anything. So I was happily surprised that she was able to get any good shots and the ones she got I love. Not as many photos as last year but good enough, quality over quantity I guess. Anyway here they are.
