Picture question

Okay so I need some input. Were doing family pics this week, were going to use them for our Christmas card but I want them to be more casual. The girl were going to see has santa hats (I made them so I know they are cool lol) and fake snow ect. So we can get all Christmasy and then then do some not so Christmas ones. I was thinking of Jeans for us and Jeans or Jeanskirts for the girls. I'm just not sure if I want their tops to match or just be similar (ie same type just different colours)

OR should they match.. would that look dumb?? I also have different knit dresses, but they are not really similar.

Also KRISTEN or whoever, reds not good right? something about the colour against the skin??

thanks!

Yes, Kristin please feel free to chime in.

We did same colors (gray, turquoise, and bright pink). I basically had it in my mind that it was just going to be the girls in the pics. I went to Baby Gap and found outfits I liked that shared 3 of the same colors. The main problem, I later decided that I wanted a family picture so I had to figure out something for me and dh to wear. I think we ended up doing ok, but the colors were not very traditional, so finding a card that didn't clash was tricky.

I wouldn't do matching. I would go with colors that look good together...if one of the dresses has a bunch of colors in it, then pick those colors to dress others in to bring it all together.

I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures! I think it's a great idea to do some Christmas, some casual. Then you can hang our family picture out all year and not get sick of the Christmas look it has!

I wouldn't do matching either. I've only seen it done once where I really liked it, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150344320286039&set=a.10150344320206039.345027.196300611038&type=3&theater

If your photographer is good, they should be able to get rid of any red shadows on your skin, but if the pictures are not being retouched, I wouldn't do it Smile

Yep, I would coordinate, but not match.

Red really pops in a picture, so it can pull focus (is what I've been told)

I think everyone in jeans is a good idea. I always plan the kids outfits first, then do the rest of us around them. I personally, do not mind kids matching. But I do our pictures with us coordinating instead.

Old navy has some cute cream colored knitted dresses. I think Target does too. those might be cute on the girls. With fun tights. That is actually exactly what I put Ava in this year for our family pictures.

this is our family picture. Incase you wanted an idea. I was happy with our outfits this year.

If I was doing Christmasy picutres this year, I'd do creams and tans. or creams and grey. The girls in dresses like Ava's with fun tights. Me in jeans, a white shirt and (if you're outside) a tan (or grey)coat. If you're inside a tan cardi, plus boots. And DH in jeans and maybe a brown (or dark charcoal) shirt (like what my DH has on). Bring along extra hair assessories and necklaces for you. Maybe sweaters for the kiddos too. I hear pictures are made in the layers and more layers is better.

Fun! I love doing family pictures! Be sure you share when you get them! Smile

Ditto on what everyone else has said! As my cousin's wife always says..."it's really not good to be too matchy matchy" I have to fight the tendancy with my girls because it is fun to buy matching stuff. But for pictures I would definitely coordinate but NOT match. Similar colors, but different patterns, etc.

I

LOVE IT, and the outfits too.

Thanks for the ideas ladies. I really didn't want to match but DH wanted them to match so I got the same sweater (red and pink stripes strange but it works) thought we should do some red since we can make it look Christmasy if we want to and you all say red is good Wink But I think I'll put Claire in Jeans and Addi in a jeanskirt to change the look up a bit. Now of course I have to figure out what to wear lol. It will be inside at her studio, Claire is looking forward to playing with the "magic" snow ;). I'll post some pics once I get them.

ITA with everyone else. I hate trying to come up with something for all us when we do pictures....it stresses me out.

Here's what I dressed my kiddos in for their fall pics.....I thought I did pretty good considering I didn't have to go buy anything, it was stuff in their closets!
