QOTD Monday

I know this is WAY early....but it would be fun to bounce ideas around.

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party?

2. What have your parties been like in the past?

3. What do you hope its like this year?

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like?

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities?

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party? Yes! Party planning is in full swing. Birthdays are a bid deal to me, so I go a little over board.

2. What have your parties been like in the past? Ava's 1st b-day was Fall themed. Her 2nd was Owls (whooo's turning 2!)

3. What do you hope its like this year? This year we're doing a Halloween costume party. I'm excited to see all the little kids dressed up.

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like? This year I'm inviting more of her friends and not as much extended family. I just want to see all the kids having a lot of fun. This is going to be the first time I have activites for the kids too. I figure pumpkin decorating and something else.... I hope that goes well. It could be hit or miss with this age.

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities? I haven't. I figure this will be the last year I can plan everything. Next year she'll have a lot more input and the parties will get smaller.

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party? A little. We want to have it at a bouncy place and I have the pricing and know the date - I just need to call and book it before it fills up.

2. What have your parties been like in the past? Way too big! I think we had over 50 people at both parties. The first was a Radio Flyer Wagon theme and the second was a Halloween Party. That was a lot of fun because we did activities and had a bounce house.

3. What do you hope its like this year? I hope its much easier on me since I will be 8+ months pregnant. The place we are having it at (or hoping to have it at) is really restrictive on time. We get 90 minutes to jump and 30 minutes for food, cake and presents. I'm skipping food this year and just doing cupcakes and juice boxes and party favors. The employees will do the decorating and clean up - YAY! So I hope that by having it here I will be able to enjoy the party more and work less.

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like? I'm hoping the party I am planning is ideal. I'd love to go all out like some of the blogs - no detail goes missed. However, I don't have the time, money or resources to make it all like that.

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities? We haven't given him an option before but this year we *may*. We are planning a super hero party and the decorations will be the WHAM, BAM, POW type captions on the walls and the cupcake toppers will be the same way. Hopefully he agrees or can be steered to that kind of party. I could see him wanting a Dinosaur party possibly too which would be just as easy. He has said he doesn't want it at the bouncy place but that isn't an option - unless we break down and do Chuck E Cheese. If that's the case it will be much smaller and way more crowded - which will stink.

Jenn- did you see Holly's superhero party for Alex and Max? It was SUPER cute! If you need more ideas, you should go see her pictures on her blog. Smile

OH YEAH! I forgot - I think she actually did the stuff I want to do. Hmmm...maybe I should contact her and see if she wants to sell any of that stuff - like the decorations. Too bad her blog is blocked at work - ugh!

I also thought about Holly's party for A&M! That was so cute!

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party? I've thought about it. That's all.

2. What have your parties been like in the past? For his first birthday we did a Circus theme. For his 2nd birthday it was Farm animals. We have done 2 seperate parties each year for each side of the family.

3. What do you hope its like this year? Easy! I'll be too pregnant to want to do anything overboard. I think we might just do 1 big party this year. I'd like to have it some place other than our house, but we don't have a lot of options around us, especially in the Winter. So, we'll probably just do it at home.

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like? see above

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities? For his 2nd birthday I did farm animals because that's what he was interested in at the time. I think this year it will probably be Thomas the Train -- he's obsessed w/that right now! But I'll wait a bit to see if that changes.

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party? Yes, it's Labor Day Weekend (but her real birthday is this week)! We are having it at a kid's pool called Noah's Ark Pool.

2. What have your parties been like in the past? Both parties were at our house with just close friends. Very fun but a lot of work for mommy! This year I wanted it to be somewhere else, where I didn't have to clean before and after!

3. What do you KNOW it will be like this year? It will be just swimming, cupcakes, drinks, and snacks. We will invite all of her preschool class (25-ish kids) which we have never done in the past...I don't expect more than 5 or 6 of them to come though, especially on a holiday weekend. My parents will be in town for it (YAY!) We are allowed to have up to 60 people in the pool area for the price we paid so the idea is THE MORE THE MERRIER. We will invite everyone we know with kids around Sophia's age (which, in reality, is not that many people, lol) The invitations will specify that gifts are not necessary. I don't like the idea of people feeling like they need to bring gifts, and I won't have her open gifts (if there are any) at the party, cause we only have the place for 2 hours, and I want her to spend the time playing with her friends. It's just about her and everyone that comes having fun. The downside? It will be hot as hell for the parents who won't be in the pool. But everyone can wade in the water, at least....it's only a foot or so deep.

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like? See above! I'm so excited about this party! The only thing that would make it better is if I could have had it a little later in the afternoon and served real food for the adults. But the pool was only available at limited times.

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities? Definitely trying to this year, but Sophia is not helping me out too much! I keep asking her what she wants for her birthday and all she will tell me is "cupcakes and candles" Okay, got that covered. I give her a birthday magazine to look through and she tells me she likes every single thing in there, except a few things which she says are for boys. This morning I asked her if she wants a Hello Kitty party, and she said "Yes! And drinkses for if I get thirsty!" Okay, random. So I actually think she would be happy with whatever I pick, but I think I will take her to our cheap party store on Friday and let her pick something out. But NO DORA...oh heck no, I'm veto-ing that right now. I will definitely be steering her toward Hello Kitty if they have it. ha ha

Um wait - Carrie - are parents only allowed to wade or can we get all in too? Because I plan to use Deacon as an excuse to get in and stay cool.

You can get in, but the whole pool is only about a foot deep. So you can't really "swim". You can sit in the water, though, and your butt can be cool Lol And there are lots of squirting and falling water things so there are plenty of ways to get wet.

I could lay down and have my body under water and my belly above water. It would be like a fetal submarine.

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party?
Yes somewhat.. I got some "Thomas" things at Target couple weeks ago (we don't have Target in our town)

2. What have your parties been like in the past?
Friends with kiddos over and cake...

3. What do you hope its like this year?

Decoration will be "more" this year since he "cares" more about it

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like?

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities?

We are not doing anything big. We will have some family and friends over to have some pizza and cake. Next year will be super cause Gabby's bday falls on Thanksgiving so I will invite everyone for dinner and birthday celebration.

We will probably do something the weekend before since her birthday is on a Tuesday.

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party? Nope

2. What have your parties been like in the past? His first birthday he had two, for both sides of our families. Last year it was just us, my mom, MIL, and aunt.

3. What do you hope its like this year? Like last year, small.

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like? Small, just close family. I've decided I'm not really going to plan any more parties until he's older. He's not going to remember them besides pictures when he's older, and I would rather wait and go big when he'd be more ready to make decisions. Ideally I'd like to wait until Elementary School.

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities? This year I'm going to ask if we can bring cupcakes to his preschool. I've started pinning pictures of cupcakes and I am going to let him pick out which ones we'll make. Then on his birthday we'll let him choose something special to do for the day, and what dinner he wants for the night. I'll make a cake for after dinner with some gifts.

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party? Yes were renting a indoor play place. Its got this HUGE climber and slides for the kids and a little kie area (not that she plays in the little kid area cause shes a BIG kid)

2. What have your parties been like in the past? Always an indoor playplace, too many little kids (family friends ect) and our house is too small, Claire always has pool parties (the joys of a summer bd) but Addi its too cold to be outdoors.

3. What do you hope its like this year? This year were doing family and Friends separate, both girls will have a "friends" party and then in October were doing a joint family party. Now that Addi is bigger she can play more and not need me to go with her as much which will be nice

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like? Someone to do EVERYTHING, setup, cleanup, run activities.... and pay for it Wink I'd still do the cake though cause I like doing that. lol... Really as long as she has fun thats all that I really care about.

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities? Yup. Claire asked my BFF if we could have her party at their place (pool party) before I had the chance Wink and we took Addi to the play place and asked her if she wanted to have her party there. I let my girls choose what kind of cake they want (Claire wants Jungle Junction and is VERY specific, Addi just wants strawberry shortcake) and what they want to eat. I also ask them who they want to invite and what they want to do. So far Its always worked out that we can do what they want.

For those going to a "place" ie play place, mcdonalds whatever ... that you have limited time will you open the presents there or take them home, in the past we have taken them home (Addi's 1st and 2nd bd) cause she wanted to play. But this year we are going to have to play it by ear since she may want to open them there. I think though I wont make the kids sit and watch unless they want to since we only have a limited time to play.

Cupcakes to make or to buy? Just curious - our daycare and schools don't allow anything homemade to be brought to class.

Deacon will definitely open everything at home over a period of a few days.

Open at home. With a time limit I don't want to waste any of it opening gifts. And I only say "waste" cause it's probably the last thing the kids want to be doing when they could be playing. Plus, you know at that age they want to actually open the packaging of each toy, if you don't let them they are upset, and if you do let them, you will lose half the stuff and have a huge mess. I'll pass.

Jenn, to make. Thankfully the preschool hasn't gone to that rule yet. Although I understand why some do.

1. Have you starting thinking about or planning your LO's birthday party?
I started thinking about this year half way through last years party!

2. What have your parties been like in the past?
Mayhem! 4 toddlers plus all of the adults who wanted to come resulted in about 20 people in my small house. Never again!

So far we have done a red themed party and a blues clues one. I try not to go overboard and just do some balloons, streamers, cupcakes, fruit/veg and cheese/cracker plates.

3. What do you hope its like this year?

Smaller and quieter. I had hoped to do a rec center party but all of the packages are for up to 10 kids. It is a great deal if you have 10 kids to invite but we only have 5. So we are thinking of doing a small kid party with only the 5 and their parents during the afternoon. Then we will let all the adult family know that if they want to stop by that evening they can. We will do up a slow cooker with spaghetti and a bunch of cupcakes. People can just stop in for a while around dinner. That way I do not have all 20+ people there at one time.

4. What would your IDEAL party for your LO be like?
Not in my house! I really wish it wasn't so cold and wet so we can't go outside. In future I foresee a lot of swim, skate, gym parties etc. Once she goes to preschool she will have more friends to invite and the party packages will be more cost effective.

5. Do you give your LO a say in their party theme or activities?
Yes. We tend to go with whatever she is really into at the time.
