Random Chit Chat

We haven't had a random chat for awhile so I figured I would start one.

Here is my random chat for the week; woke up Friday with a infection in my gum over a tooth I recently had re-crowned, crown got loose when Zayden jumped on my lap and hit a glass into my tooth, redid but a tooth with a lot of issue. Went to Dentist Friday, send to an oral surgeon on Friday that I didn't like cause he immediately started talking implant, went to a second opinion today to a endodontist I like just to be told that NO the tooth cannot be saved and yes I am soon to be out almost 2k for implant. Since its my front tooth, I don't really have a choice. Been reading on them and OUCH! It is a long and very involved process so now I am just so not excited. Till then though I am eating and drinking soups Sad

Also my foster sister and three of her kids are coming Friday. Looking forward to seeing them, not looking forward to the chaos. Then Ash tells us last night she is also dog sitting Age's dog so my house is going to be INSANE this weekend.

Whats everyone else up to?

Implants aren't as bad as they sound!! Smile I haven't had one but heard it from lots of our patients!

We've had a busy month. We went and visited my dad where he is working in Kansas just after the 4th for a long weekend. then we had a family reunion on Dh's mom's side. This weekend is open then the following weekend we are camping with some friends. It has been SOO hot here. close to or at 100*. Ready for a cool down and some rain. The farmers need it!

Amy - your tooth problems sound horrible, hopefully, you can get it fixed soon and get some relief.

Amy - it's SO HOT here too. Being hugely pregnant in this heat is NO fun.

We have been busy trying to prepare for Baby Girls arrival. Her room is now cleared out, her furniture is here and now I'm trying to find someone to paint the room (I so hate painting and will gladly pay someone else to do it), then we need to clean the carpet. Once all of that is done we will get all of the baby stuff out of the attic and sort, clean, etc. It's all coming along pretty good. I'm getting really uncomfortable when trying to sleep and I have 3 more months to go! Yikes! I also set my CS date for Oct 25 so unless she comes early (crossing my fingers) that's the big day. Josh is having a blast at his new school and is learning so much. Makes Momma happy Smile

Amy, that really sucks. I HATE dental issues. I have like a million crowns in my mouth and one time in college I had a really bad tooth infection that led to an "emergency" root canal and man I can still remember the pain of that infection. I was literally screaming in pain in the middle of the night and sobbing; I thought I was going to die. I really feel for you, I hope you can get it all fixed up soon and that it's easier than you think.

Amy, wish I could send you some of our rain...it has rained here every day for almost 2 weeks and some of our creeks are overflowing!

Dawn, how exciting that you are getting baby girl's room all fixed up! Can't wait to see the finished product!

As for us, DH is just studying like crazy and I'm trying to stay sane as a mostly single mom. We've had lots of birthday parties this month and I'm also trying to plan Sophia's, which will be August 11th. My oldest brother and his wife and 4 kids are coming through town this week, so I'm taking Thursday off to hang out with them. They will just be here Wed night through Friday morning. Of course I'm cleaning the house like a mad woman right now Wink

I just booked a trip to San Francisco in 3 weeks for a work conference...I'm going to take Layla since she flies free and my best friend from college, who lives an hour outside of San Fran, is going to keep her for the 3 days that I'm at the conference. Plus I'm going out a little early to spend a couple of days with her before hand, so I'm looking forward to that. I have to leave Sophia here since the flights are so expensive, so that will be really sad Sad

Carrie, I had one of those two, root canal I waited till the last second, and yes I can STILL remember that pain! Amy I certainly hope the implants aren't as bad as they sound, but DANG they are expensive! Since its my front tooth, apparently I have to have a fake tooth made and wear a "flipper" ie like a retainer while I go through this process. It does NOT sound fun. But I am pretty sure that my tooth is loose so know I am stressing it will fall out and I will walk around looking really bad for awhile! YUCK TOO. Oh well, I just need to suck it up right? LOL

Amy and Dawn, that heat does NOT sound fun. We are around 73 all week and that is warm to us! But its cooling down at night still where we need to shut all the windows and put on a jacket. Gotta love coastal breezes!

Dawn, YAH for getting room set up and setting the C-Sec HOW EXCITING! Good for Josh doing so well in his new school too! Zayden is at the Y for the summer, they have camps as well as a preschool -- he is in the camp part -- but the teacher told me yesterday that everyone had fallen in love with him and the teachers were clamoring that they hoped he started school there and they wanted him in their class! Such a change! I loved it!

Carrie BOO for single mom hood! You probably told me this before but what is DH studying for? I remember (I think) its a masters but in what? The trip to SFO sounds fun!

Other than dental emergencies LOL things are good here. Like I said my sister and three kids, two boys 17 and 15 and a girl 13 are coming on Friday. They are very rural south so Southern California is such a change for them. The oldest and youngest come out most summers but its the first time Hunter (15) has been out since he was 6. My sis hasn't even met Zayden yet so it will be fun. They are here though through August 4, my aunt comes out August 3 (she has never met them so it will be interesting) then my dad August 5 for two weeks. We will be VERY busy for awhile.

Amy, is one of these boys the one that wanted to live with you after he came out last time? Are you taking any time off when all this family is here? Did your coworker come back from mat leave yet?

DH is getting a Master's in Statistics from Texas A&M. He is about 2/3 through the program and on August 16th he has a placement test that he has to pass in order to finish the program. If he doesn't pass, he can't retake it until sometime next Spring. And considering he quit his job to finish this program full time THIS FALL, that would be bad. LOL SO he is big time stressing about that test, not to mention he's in a really fast paced summer course right now....the final is next week.

STATS! :0 EEK That is one of the few subjects I have never taken a class in because I KNOW I would not pass. Good luck!! I bet that would be so stressful! I will keep my fingers crossed for him (and you Smile )

Yes, Ronnie (the 17) year old is the one that BEGGED us to let him live with us. He has one more year of high school to do but for now I am hoping that having his mom with him coupled with a gf back home, he won't be as keen to try and stay! LOL. While I love the kid to death, we have so much going on right now I am not sure I would be up to that. Sadly, his mom and dad just got divorced and the boys have been living with their dad. I think they all need some together time to mend some fences and for them to have time to talk. I hope its very healing for them to be here together on neutral ground so to speak.

I don't know if I am taking time off though, I might take the Friday that is their last day and the day my aunt comes in off to stay with them and I may take the following Friday off too as Tiff and Jeff and Bayleigh are flying in to see my dad. Beyond that, probably not.

My coworker did come back earlier this month FINALLY Smile Makes life so much easier!

Yeah, now you know why you didn't see him when you came to meet me. He spent at least 80% of our vacation in SD studying. Poor guy, he pretty much didn't get a vacation. Sad He is very smart, but it doesn't come easy to him. He studies a crazy amount...he is unbelievably dedicated and disciplined.

Oh, I'm sorry Ronnie and his siblings are going through that Sad One of my brothers is going through a somewhat ugly divorce right now and it has been so hard on my niece and nephew. It is so sad to see that. I hope they have a great time while they are in CA and can forget about that for a little while!!

Yikes, Amy! That doesn't sound like very much fun at all. I also hate dental issues. I haven't been to the dentist in a couple years because I just hate going there so much! ((Sorry Amy S!))

Carrie, I hope your dh is able to pass his finals w/flying colors!

Dawn, fun! We're going to need to see some pictures! What color are you painting?

We have been busy with tons of playdates. Trips to the park, the beach, friends houses.
Miles has been AWESOME about trying new foods lately. I am so happy about it - there's finally hope for my picky eater!!! Just this summer, he has tried (and liked!) strawberries, bananas, grapes, watermelon, cooked carrots, grilled cheese, sloppy joe's, meatloaf, I think that's it. I feel like I have so many new foods to give him! FINALLY! Okay, so I've been bribing him. He earns stickers for every new food he eats. After so many stickers (3, cuz he's 3 Wink ), he earns a train he doesn't have yet. lol. And it works. So that's all that matters. I'm hoping to change it up soon...maybe 3 stickers and he gets to go bowling or something.

Carrie --it has been rough on the kids so I am glad to get a chance to give them a break and have them out here for awhile. I cannot stand their dad --never have been able to -- so glad Kim has finally figured it out. It will be great to see them but not looking forward to the chaos.

Ashley --WTG Miles!! Z is STILL a major picky eater and it drives me nuts!! I like that sticker idea, maybe we will try that.

So I bit the bullet and called the dentist. So want to keep putting this off but I feel like my tooth is wiggling and loose and was up all night stressing over this. I would have loved to put this off to next year as I am out of all money on my FSA AND have used about 600 of dental benefits. Doing this now will result in probably over 2k in bills! But I really can't not have a front tooth. I go in tomorrow to meet with my dentist, he has to make something called a flipper - I think its like a retainer with a false tooth. This could take between 1-3 weeks to make. I talked to the oral surgeon who said after I get that, I come in and have the procedure then it takes maybe 6-8 weeks till they can put the new tooth on. I guess that is not too bad. I have a major infection right now in the root, am on antibiotics that are making me SO sick. I am not in pain so to speak but not comfortable. Hopefully this is quick and easy.

Still here being random LOL. Since the root of my tooth is broken and caused an infection, the dentsit put me on some really STRONG antibiotic which is kicking my butt! I keep getting really sick to my stomach and am just EXHAUSTED. I could totally go to bed right now! That doesn't help when Z has been getting up every night this week and tiptoeing into bed with us. I have been too tired to take him back to bed though by now we are starting to have a problem!

ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz just need to stay awake two more hours at work.....must.stay.awake.

Oh Amy, ugh. What a mess. So sorry!

I have been sick with migraines. I made an appt with a neurologist for the 30th, but called back today to get on their waiting list. I have been having horrible headaches every day for a few weeks now (I've gone through this cycle before) and am at the end of my rope. Being in pain all the time just sucks. But oh well, it could be worse. :/

We're super busy over the next few weeks. This weekend, DH's brother is coming up to visit with all the kids (there's 5 kids) and staying at our house, plus the in-laws will be over most of the weekend. Next weekend, we're hosting a 1st bday party for our friends' son, then the weekend after that, we're hosting a 40th bday party for another friend. Crazy, crazy. But it'll be so much fun!

We're redecorating/decorating for the first time our bathroom and bedroom--I'm so excited! I'm doing aqua, dark brown, gray and white. Very spa-like. I had to get new tires on my car Monday, ugh. Left the house to go to a doctor's appointment and had a totally flat rear tire. So in between our 4 doctor's appointment and the grocery store, I got the new tires. It was such a busy day! We left the house at 9:00am, didn't get home til 5:15p, ate dinner and made a batch of banana muffins. Noah was such a good boy, despite having to take his nap in the car.

Jess, have you ever considered cluster headaches? They can actually be worse than migraines but you have a lot in a row and then go a period of time (for some people up to 5 years) without having any. Anyway, just thought of it since you mentioned it was cyclical. They should be treated very differently then migraines so you might mention it to your neuro. Although my neuro said that true cluster headaches are very rare, but who knows. I hope you can get it figured out! I just got approved to get botox shots for my migraines, so I'll let you know how that goes...I'm nervous! Botox shots in my forehead??? YIKES.

And my brother is coming tonight with his wife and 4 kids, so I feel you on that. I had quite an interesting time trying to find places for everyone to sleep. The floor is not really an option, even for kids, because we have all wood floors and they are HARD without a big stack of blankets underneath you!

Noah still naps??? Lucky you. lol

Yeah, Carrie, I have considered it. And I always have headaches, every.single.day., but the cycle I'm on right now is like it was all those years ago. There's a nerve behind my right ear that drives me crazy and I was getting cortisone shots in it, but my previous neuro told me one more shot would mean surgery to remove the nerve, so a big NO THANKS! And my reg dr I saw Monday mentioned that I sounded like a perfect candidate for those Botox injections. I used to be on Topomax and Paxil, in addition to Midrin for everything, but went off of it all about 2 years before ttc because the neuro told me that they would for sure cause birth defects. So yeah, I'll mention it to the new neuro I see on the 30th. Right now, the entire right side of my head feels like it's a fireball, including my nose, eyeball and ear. I put the tv on for Noah last night and fell asleep on the couch at 6:30p because I was so miserable. Thank God my child is good enough that I can do that and completely trust that he'll be ok. Andy's out of town this week, so I don't have him to help me. I had 2 true migraines in 4 days last week. This stuff seriously sucks.

When are you going to start getting the shots? I say go for it! Nothing to lose! That would be difficult to figure out sleeping arrangements with wood floors. We're putting the two boys in sleeping bags, the two girls on an air mattress, BIL & SIL will get the guest bed and the baby will sleep in a pnp. The kids are 17, 16, 14, 13 and 3 months. That will be chaotic!

And yep, Noah still naps. He only sleeps 8-9 hours at night, so he naps about 2 hours every day. I love it, because then I can nap on the weekends too. Smile But days like Monday, it stinks because I have to worry about getting him a nap, but end up not being able to.

Yes, you do sound like a perfect candidate for botox! It took my insurance 5 months to approve it...they are being really cautious right now since it is still fairly recent as being approved for migraines and I think they are afraid people will take advantage of it. I'm really nervous about it for some reason but I'm already taking 200mg of Topamax a day plus 60mg of Inderal (combo therapy) and I'm using/needing more Imitrex than I can get in a month under FDA guidelines. I tried to increase to 300mg of Topamax a day but the side effects were too bad, I just couldn't get them under control so I had to drop back to 200. A coworker of mine has a good friend that works in a neuro clinic in Dallas that mainly does botox treatment, and she said they are seeing amazing results, like 85% success rate in their patients that use it. So I really don't have anything to lose...I just hope I don't end up looking like Joan Rivers! LOL

Got botox injections today for my migrains. HOLY CRAP those suckers hurt. I cried, seriously. SO embarrassing. ha ha

Amy, how is your tooth? Are you able to eat normal yet?

Dani, are you guys doing anything yet (preparation-wise) or are you waiting until you meet the birth mom?

Dani - I LOVE the new siggy! Yes, tell us more. Hopefully, you still have all of Josh's old things, so you will just have to buy one set of everything. I can't imagine getting ready for twins in such a short time.

Ehhh still hurts. I have tried to put off doing anything with all the visitors in town, so far so good, but the tooth just "feels" fragile. Thankfully I have already gotten the flipper so hopefully if it finally deteriorates I can just get in for the surgery pretty quickly. Cant eat normally but can do better than just soup for a bit. I would LOVE for financial reasons to see if I can put it off till January but I dont see that happening Sad

Meeting bio mom on August 17. Right now she seems pretty secure in her decision. She wrote them a letter saying that they (the twins) desreve so much more than what she put her other 2 children through (neither one of them is in her custody). She was actually a twin herself, but her brother was stillborn, so twins run in her family. Her heritage is Italian, but she is fair skinned, blonde and blue eyes. Her daughter was born at 33 weeks and twins usually come early, so we are thinking they may come by the end of August. We had our beach planned for the first week in September, but not sure if that will happen now.

Meeting our social worker on Monday to go over paper work, get medical and social history of b mom, discuss what will happen when we meet her.

Marilyn, our social worker, suggested starting a photo album with pics of us and Josh and extended family and leaving lots of empty space, with the promise of more photos and letters to come. Need to get started on that.

Went through some of Josh's old stuff yesterday. Baby boy is set to go, baby girl needs help with her wardrobe. Researching mini vans, double strollers, need to get just the carrier car seat, we have 2 bases already. Would like to get another swing, bouncy seat and bumbo. We need to paint the room they will share...it is pink right now, probably a sunshiny yellow. The bedding we got for Josh is gender neutral, so we can use that again.

Dani, not sure where in Pa you are, but in the Scranton area there is a discount store that sells new baby equipment. Let me know if you would like more information. Mari

We are in Lancaster. But we are headed up to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area in a couple weeks to meet bio mom. I'm sure we have a place like that here, just need to look for one.

Yay Dani! I am so excited for you! What an exciting time!

Amy, how's your tooth doing?

Girls, really! Don't put off your dental work! A friend of ours did and he's going to be losing almost all his teeth because of it. Just go! It's preventative, just like your yearly well-woman exams. Or do you not go to those either? It's just like this saying a former dentist of mine has "only floss the teeth you want to keep." Losing my teeth is my biggest fear about myself.

We're crazy busy, last month and again this month. It's so weird. We've been living this quiet little life, I go on meds to make me happy and suddenly we're leading quite the social life. Ridiculous. Smile

Oh my gosh, Dani! I'm so, so excited for you! That's awesome that you've kept most of Josh's stuff, and I hope y'all are having fun shopping for the rest of the stuff you need and aren't stressing too much. (: I'm seriously so excited for you!

Our summer's been really busy and will probably continue to be until school starts. I kind of like it that way, though. It's how we try to stay sane in the Texas heat. We just found out the boys will start school Sept. 11th, so I'm really just spending most of my time soaking up these last few weeks of summer and spending time on play dates. Nothing terribly interesting!
