What sorts of things do you enjoy doing as a family? How often do you have family time?
We have family time quite a bit. We do any and everything. We go to farmers market, go to various places (zoo, farms, even shopping, etc.), go to the park a lot, even sit around the house and watch a movie lazy. Right now we are looking at campers because we want to get one for next summer when Colby is bigger and we can just take off and go to state parks when Donnie is off of work. We love outdoors, camping, hiking, etc, and am just waiting a little bit until it's easier. The thing with DH's job is when he's working, it's normal days, when he's off, it's either a honey-do day for him or a family day for all. So we usually have a full family day once a week.
We have family days each weekend and I LOVE them. We go out for lunch, go swimming at the Y, as the weather starts getting warmer we will do bike rides, hikes and beach days.
I have me and Z time on Sundays going to church, I want to start adding the farmers market in after church and then lunch date. I don't actually get time alone with Z very often since we do most everything as a family.
Lately we have been doing walks, parks, bubbles, sandbox, and geo caching (Lyla calls it treasure hunting). Lyla has been working on her balance bike, but really isn't doing great. She loves to pop wheelies, but won't go fast enough to coast.
Kristen - what type of camper are you looking for? We have a big 5th wheel with a slide out. Unfortunately it is kind of a chore to get loaded and unloaded, since we have it parked at my parents farm. I wish we could go out more often than we do. Lyla has been begging to camp, but we don't have any free weekends for 2 months.
I think we are looking at a 5th wheel? I'm not too sure of the names. Not a goose-neck. I REALLY want an Airstream That's not going to happen. We're not looking for too big, I think 22feet max. DH says there's a truck+trailer length limit at some state parks and we don't want to be bigger than that. ?? That is SO cute she's begging to camp. I think it's the best kind of cheap/easy/stories for a lifetime fun. Except I am going to love not having tent rainout/freezing stories We're not buying one until late this year or next, Donnie is excited to have something to think his overtime this summer will go towards.
Ditto all this, minus the camper part. Although, FIL owns a RV store and service place, so we just borrow from them if we want one.
Um, that is awesome!! Have you done it before? You need to borrow different kinds this year and let me know some pros/cons
I think we have the same kind of schedule Amber. DH's gone and then home. Whyyyy can't we live in the same town?!
We borrow the IL's personal camper, which is a 5th wheel. When their kiddos were little, they did the full RV/motor home thing. But now it's a 5th wheel, the goose neck kind. Last year we went with some friends, and just used their pop-up. It's okay, and nice because it has 2 queen size beds and a place to play cards/games/eat if the weather gets lousy. I would personally buy a 5th wheel if we needed one- having a bathroom is nice! But so far, mooching off our friends and family works well for us. I really enjoy tent camping most though. I'm a simple girl and like to be away from it all, when I'm getting away from it all.
And we do need to live closer! G is gone M-F, every week. It would be fun to hang out with you guys during the week. Colorado is lovely. Although, we do not pay our Firefighters nearly as well as CA does. You need to come visit this summer. We can go hike some of the 14ers!
We've been having a lot of family lately. DH has been working from home for almost 2 months, so we're always together (except when I'm at work and Noah's at school Tues-Fri). We go to the race track, parks for picnics and train rides, do yard work, shopping, road trips...we try to do a lot of different things. I WON'T go camping though, lol. I'm making a list of different things to do indoors this summer when we can't be outside anymore--Children's museum, fire museum, library, etc. When DH is working out of town, he's gone from Monday to Friday, so family time is much more limited and we try to be together as much as possible, even if that means sitting around and watching Noah's favorites--Monster Jam and NASCAR.
Our family time is in small pieces because aside from us both working full time, DH is getting a master's degree so he studies A LOT. He tries to do most of his studying when the kids are in bed but of course anytime he has a test coming up or homework due he has to study a good part of the weekends too. We go out to dinner as a family every Friday night so that is probably our most consistant family time. We usually do something besides dinner, like walk around a mall, or we go to this one place to eat that has a big grass area outside with bands playing and kids can play, or get frozen yogurt after dinner, etc. On Saturdays DH usually spends at least a couple of hours outside doing yardwork so we all play outside with him while he does that. But we don't really spend many full days together as a family like going to the zoo or parks or whatever because of DH's studying. I'm kind of on my own for taking them to places like that unless I really beg him to take a break and come with us. I'm SO ready for him to be done with school....can you tell?? LOL
we ski a lot and spend time together in evening
when the snow will be gone (one more month at least) we will bike again
