I think that's silly. There is so much pressure to hit "milestones" by a certain age. Babies will often start sitting up on their own between 4-7 months. I don't think we need to "work with them" on it, it's just a part of daily life and routine!

Emerson can sit on his own for about 2 seconds. He loves to sit up and hates to lie down, so even when I prop him up on the couch, he'll lean forward so he can sit on his own instead of rest on the couch. Of course then he promptly falls over Wink I imagine he'll be much better at it by 5.5 to 6 months.

I concur that is weird! All my books say approximately 6 months for sitting. I wouldn't worry about it.

Laszlo can sit on his own, with at least one hand for support for maybe 60-90 seconds? He's not especially interested in sitting, usually. I definitely don't push it, because it seems like there is a lot of spine maturity and little muscles required to work in concert.

First off, I do agree with what the others said, it really depends on the baby.
Q can, but he was born in Oct and it has only been in the last few weeks. So I think most 'younger' Nov babies still have time. If your kid is 1 and still can't sit, check back with the dr. Babies at this age can change so quickly.
Next thing isyou know that phase between baby can hold their head up and baby can sit, where the baby can be propped up without slouching over? kwim? Like the baby wants to sit, but can't, so you don't lay baby completely flat in the stroller, but you can prop him up? Maybe the ped meant that?

Definitely not - Rory is just 4 mo and not sitting. My first drove me CRAZY b/c he actually pulled up around 7 months (I have a picture lol so I remember the day) but refused to sit up on his own. I'm not working on it beyond the usual fun baby play stuff.....

Nope, it's fun to try. He doesn't seem to like the bumbo much either, seems he would rather 'stand'. DD didn't sit till 6 months & even then only for seconds unsuppored Smile

I agree with this 100%. Thankfully T's pedi didn't say anything regarding him sitting up, or I probably would have gone off the deep end lol! How ridiculous, 4 months is still very young for that! Trystan also loves to sit up and absolutely hates lying down and tummy time, so he's either always in his bouncy chair, bumboo, or in my lap!

I have one of the older babies in our group and he isn't sitting unsupported yet. I don't push for it either. He will do it in his own time, when he is ready! So I wouldn't worry about it, Amber!

Deffininatly not! Lol he still likes to lean his head back in his bumbo, he is a little lazy. He prefers to lie down. But we do sit ups when I lift him up from changing his diaper. And he is getting really good at scooting in a cirlcle while on his back, lol. DS1 was sitting up on his own by 5 months and crawling by 6 , he did everything very early and my second did everything really late compared to my first.
