mystery still! :sillywink:

Boo. Sad

Dr said the u/s gender pics couldn't provide a definitive enough confirmation that this baby is either a boy or a girl. I'm so disappointed & so is DH.

The good news is the my Dr has now confirmed the ultrasound results were perfect, everything was looking just right. He says my weight is okay I'm up 2.2 kgs. I personally think that I'm up 8.5 lbs since pre-preg. Was a trace of sugars in my urine but they said the finger prick bloodwork was fine (reading was 6.5 whatever that means), B/p was fine. He did a pap and pelvic which wasn't that big of a deal. Says it's time to go do the Gestational Diabetes test. He says there probably won't be another ultrasound unless they develop a concern over anything. Visit again in a month then ever 2 weeks then every week nearing due date. He asked when I was planning on leaving work, I told him 2 weeks prior (I might as well, it will be mid-October and a short week following Cdn Thanksgiving).

Anyway I'll try not to be depressed about not knowing gender. I'll just be p*ssed off instead.

LAME!

But congratuations that everything else is going so well for you.

I've heard that BC has really strict rules about gender scans...do you have the option of going to a pregnancy spa or a 3d/4d ultrasound place for another peek?

DANG IT!

Man, that sucks that they couldn't tell! And I've heard BC is pretty strict about gender U/S too. There aren't any private U?S places around here, are there any there?

Surprises can be fun! Our first was a surprise and it was sort of neat finding out in the delivery room Smile I'm glad everything else looks great!

our first was a complete surprise. our second the dr didn't tell us boy, but he gave us the u/s where we could clearly tell it was a boy. This time is a surprise.

It really is a lot of fun not knowing and guessing and others guessing. think about the positives! Also everybody finds out these days you and your baby will be unique! Smile

It is crayzy when you mention the visits. It is like wow time is really getting closer!

Bummer. My SIL is from BC also and she was never able to find out the sex of any of her 4 kids before they were born. (1 u/s in BC and 3 in Ireland). What is with those babies and their crossed legs?????

Are you thinking of trying a private u/s place or just waiting till delivery?

Why? I don't understand... was the baby just uncooperative, or they WON'T tell you? I was gonna say that 23 weeks is plenty enough time to determine the sex unless baby has their legs crossed or something. I found out mine was a boy at 13 weeks! I'm so sorry you don't know... but in a way that's kind of fun, too!

I'm sorry that you don't know the gender. We're sort of in the same boat, but the tech said she was about 75% confident baby is a girl, so we have a probability. We're going with that, till we're proven otherwise or baby is born a girl. Like you, we won't get another ultrasound unless there's problems-my doctor really plays by the insurance rules here in NY.

But-its great that your baby looks good and is healthy!!!

Oh man that's kind of frustrating! However it is good to know your little baby is healthy!

Absolutely it's fantastic to hear the baby's looking healthy or just as expected! But why the heck couldn't the tech have just said something encouraging that 3 weeks ago? I think the tech totally saw the gender, baby was moving around like crazy there would have been multiple opportunities. Granted when she said 'oops' I couldn't tell what I was looking at but it was for a half second and I'm not an expert. Then (because it's my fault for not reminding her we wanted to determine gender at the beginning of the appointment, not that she looked at the order note or asked me to confirm) anyway by the time she snapped the shots 45 minutes later baby must have been all curled up again, probably exhausted from all the poking. At 21 weeks I would think if you were on the right spot it would be obvious - hotdog or hamburger.

On the one hand, I can see how a surprise might be fun. But honestly I don't think we're the kind of folks to just wait patiently. Biggrin

For bonding in general, naming etc I'm already impatient with referring to this LO as "baby" and telling DD "your little brother or sister" is a bit of a mouthful, lol. Will probably book in a 4D Ultrasound, I found a bit of info online and a good video package is $149 a bit less than I thought, there's even a basic gender package for $99. Oh and it's reassuring to hear that if baby's being all modest during the appointment, you can snack, drink, dance around, listen to music or whatever you like to get baby to move - if they still can't get to the right angle then they book you a 2nd session at no charge. DH has a new job starting Monday it's almost double what he's been working for during the past 18 months, so we are feeling $ is back to 'normal' and we can afford to treat ourselves a bit again. We both think the 3D/4D photo images are a bit strange looking, but friends reminded us that this would be a once-in-a-lifetime keepsake anyway & the video would be cool to have.

Odds are we have another girl baking in here. We wouldn't be so much surprised, but could prepare for that, kwim. Also that way we have all E's clothes, linens and all which just need to be sorted so we are set. We'd need to decide on a name though.

If we were to be somehow miraculously baking a little boy, well then there is quite a bit of shopping to look forward to and budget for! Name has been picked since we've been dating (about a decade, lol). I guess I'd have to dig out E's clothes and sell or consign some to get some spending cash for boy things. I am so blessed to have this little baby, but also haven't given up hope for us to have 1 girl and 1 boy - it's still within the realm of possibility. Wink

Anyway if we get the genderscan that way I could feel I've sought my personal revenge on the tight-lipped ultrasound tech who I'm almost positive already knows our baby's gender. Mwah ha ha haaa. Will think it over this week and probably book in soon, but they do not suggest we have to rush in. They say further along is better for photos - they are apparently not worried about less room ineutero causing crossed legs.

I think the tech probably did get a good idea of what was going on below the belt. Especially at 21 weeks!

Just curious - why do you think you likely are having girl #2? Was it because of what you saw during the US? Just a feeling?

I really don't know what I got a glimpse of during the u/s, probably just umbilical cord in the way. I don't really have a feeling one way or the other, there are things with this PG that feel different to being PG with DD but I'm sure each one is different despite gender. We think our odds are higher to have a girl because there are already 2 DD's by my DH, DH's brother had 2 DDs (though the other bro had 1DS). Have read from the infertility articles/ books as well that it's probably 'easier' for us to have girls.

So when do you get to find out for sure?
