BTDT Moms - Can't Live Without Baby Gear?

October is doing this right now, and I thought it looked fun and helpful!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

What were some things that you couldn't live without?

What did you get and think you'd LOVE, but rarely used?

Is there anything you didn't get last time that you want this time?

First time moms- is there anything that you're wondering about getting or not?

FTM: is there anything you are wondering about getting or not?

AFM - I'm waffling over getting another baby carrier. I currently have two ring slings, a moby and a mei tai. I really want an ergo - I'm not sure if I'll splurge or not.

What were some things that you couldn't live without? I love my cart cover, for when you're at the grocery store or target, you don't want your LO touching those disgusting carts!!

What did you get and think you'd LOVE, but rarely used? The boppy and the bumboo chair...

Is there anything you didn't get last time that you want this time? Just a new brand of bottles (we're going with Tommee Tippee this time around), but I think my registry is the smallest it's ever been lol!

vibrating chair, swing (Evan loved sleeping with some movement so all naps took place either in the vibrating chair or swing for a long time), swaddleme velcro swaddle, boppy (more for a place to lay him down a little propped up then for nursing though), nursing tanks, receiving blankets for spit up, baby monitor (we can't hear anything room to room upstairs and he slept in his crib from about 6 weeks on), since I work breast pump, lanisoh early on especially.

What did you get and think you'd LOVE, but rarely used?

I never used his adorable bed set, total waste and he uses his crib but babies don't use quilts, he's never used a bumper either.

We didn't ever get a bumbo, I was thinking with #2 it might be nice to have to sit in and watch big bro and I sometimes

My wrap/sling. It was a lifesaver for me! Also the baby swing - my babes both loved to sleep in it as well.

I agree on the baby bedding. I did use the bumper for both kids, but the quilt is pretty useless - unless you make it a wall hanging. I've seen lots of people do that. I used soft blankets and other quilts, but the ones that come with the crib bedding are so stiff, thick, and impractical.
I had a Snuggli baby carrier given to me that I never used. Compared to the sling or wrap, it was garbage. If you want a more solid baby carrier, go with something good quality like an Ergo.

Just a new diaper bag, but that's just me being selfish! I wouldn't mind a good nursing pillow, I had a cheap walmart one that sucked. I mostly just used bed pillows though, and did fine, so who knows if it's worth it.

What were some things that you couldn't live without? The Angelcare monitor. A wrap/moby for when he was little and an ergo when he was bigger, swaddle wrap for sleeping, three dozen burp cloths, bouncy seat

bumbo seat, the cute crib set.

Is there anything you didn't get last time that you want this time? a nice stroller, the infant insert for my ergo, maybe the video version of the angelcare monitor

What were some things that you couldn't live without? Boppy, my Breast Friend nursing pillow, Lansinoh lanolin, Medela Pump in Style for when I return to work, Bumbo seat

What did you get and think you'd LOVE, but rarely used? pack and play (we don't travel much)

Is there anything you didn't get last time that you want this time? I bought a Baby Bjorn, DS did not like to be swaddled on confined in anything, so we never had one for him, I think it will come in handy this time with LO since I will need free hands to take care of a toddler!

jasmine - i'm not sure but isn't the mei tei very similar to the ergo? if so, then i'd skip the ergo. but, i loooooove my ergo so i'd say return the ring slings and go with the ergo! Smile

What were some things that you couldn't live without? my brest friend, ergo, my little lamb swing, swaddlers, happiest baby on the block dvd Smile

What did you get and think you'd LOVE, but rarely used? bumbo, any baby food maker stuff (just mash stuff with a fork or buy the premade foods, waaaay easier)

Is there anything you didn't get last time that you want this time? bottles! i exclusively bf'd and although i'm very happy that i bf'd for 20 months, i wished that thomas would have taken a bottle every now and then so i could get a break. i plan on introducing a bottle and hope that this little guy will take one. my son had severe reflux so i couldn't really give him a bottle anyway.

we hung the quilt but everyone's right, the cute nursery bedding is SUCH a waste of money! but i feel like it's a rite of passage or something, you just have to buy it! lol!

i also wanted to add my two cents on the pack n plays. just get the no frills kind. all that extra stuff that they can come with will never get used and you'll wind up paying alot extra for it.

very true on the pack and play, we had a basic one and still barely used it.

I just got a hand me down pack and play, and we only used it when we went somewhere - like to sleep overnight at Grandma's. We never used it at home. I know some people use it as a bed for baby for naptimes (like on a different level of the house than their crib is) but I've got no qualms carrying baby up to the crib for naptime!

Those crazy pack and plays with the mobiles and changing table attachements? Not worth it, IMO.

I used our cheap PnP for containment in our room. If I was folding laundry etc I tend to do that stuff in our bedroom so I'd put him in it there (especially as he got older and more mobile haha). He slept in it in our room for the first 5-6 weeks too before we moved him to his room. But I totally agree we got the like $65 one vs the 165 $ one and never regretted picking the economy model!

I LOVED:

my bumbo (took it to restraunts and the baby sat on the table, used it when they first started eating, GREAT for sitting up!)

SWING!! and bouncy chair

Medela pump in style! (dont get a cheap pump!! But you can buy second hand, MAKE SURE YOU STERILIZE)

a nice stroller! Phil/Teds and our Peg Perego are life savers!

My baby star is great, my mai tai is PERFECT for older (6m), but I really want a carrier for newborn, like an Ergo or a high end snugli

I hated:

Wipe warmer!!

PeePEeTEepees

bumpers

Things to buy:

a nice carrier

homemade nursing pads

super cute NB, 0-3M clothes!

a new car seat

a new high chair (but dont need it until they are like 8m)
