is chicken salad ok to eat?

We are going to the zoo tomorrow and will take lunch. I have been seeing subway commercials for their chicken salad subs and I want one. IS that safe to eat during pregnancy?

I think its safe...but completely unappetizing to me. Anything chicken (except popcorn chicken, which normally grosses me out) is really gag-worthy in my book right now.

Have fun at the zoo and enjoy your sub!!

Well I've had it at lunch for the past week LOL But I didn't look it up to double check. But I'm not too freaky over deli meats etc. As long as everything is pasteurized (mayo/cheese etc) I don't worry too much. Oddly enough it's the only way I can eat chicken right now.

Should be ok.It is chunks of chicken and not deli meat from my understanding.I have eaten deli meat in all my pregnancys and have been fine.Just cautious. Enjoy your sub and trip to the zoo.

I'd be cool with chicken salad......ah, now I am craving one Biggrin

I avoid cold deli meat, but you'll be fine with real cooked chicken.

I think Subway's meats are very questionable. Mainly because I don't think they are real meats. I think they are like hot dogs, flavored to taste like chicken or whatever. I avoid Subway for that reason.

One day I noticed a star beside turkey or something and at the bottom of the menu it said made from pork. I don't remember exactly what it was or the ingredient, but it wasn't what it should have been. Maybe they have chaned over the years, but I still have a yucky feeling about them. They have a website where you can check out ingredients and allergies stuff.

But other than the meat like ingedients and flavorings, I think the mayo is the bigger problem. I think they recommend not eating mayo during pregnancy. I think mayo is like lunch meats, some people eat it no problems and some people get sick from it. My mayo at home, I think is fine, because I know how it has been handled once it was opened. Restaurants mayo (or even lunch meats) is a bit sketchier, because you never know if the cook left it sitting out during a big rush. In the open fridges like Subway, I think the spread of listeria would happen easier because they might have more than one lid open at a time or accidentally switch lids.

As for craving chicken salad, I had been craving that so bad last week, I made some! It was so good too! I made it with yogurt, grapes, apples, green onions, yum!

Yeah I think the big thing with mayo is that it's sometimes made with raw egg? I could be wrong tho.

I think real mayo is made with just raw eggs and vinegar, but packaged mayo is made with that + preservatives/ pastuerized eggs. So packaged mayo is better for things like salmonella, but it is packed full of other stuff, that isn't good for you. Take your pick, salmonella or chemicals Lol

FWIW, I have never made homemade mayo, I would be too scared to make it myself!

If I were you I would steer clear! Not because of the chicken salad but because it's Subway's chicken salad! Their meats and such freak me out lately... but then again so does anything with mayo lol...
