Formula fed babies...question???

I know there are a couple other babies out there that are formula fed. I am just curious...how much does your baby eat at one sitting? I think Lily is eating alot. I only give her 3 oz in a bottle but it is almost never enough...I always have to top up with 2 oz. And she is always on the boob at feeds too but I know I don`t have much more then 1-2 oz but I hope that by the time she is feeding on me she will realize she is full and not need more. I have always been in the mind set that if they are hungry you feed but she is gaining so much weight...which is cute right now but I worry it won`t slow down. She was 8lbs 2oz at birth on Oct 26th and on Mon Nov 21 she weighed 11lbs 11oz. And when she shows signs of hunger we always make sure she is clean and happy in every other way..you can really tell if she cries when she is hungry. Any advice

My LO is only 2 weeks old today and I make 3 oz also to "start" and nearly always make 2 oz more (although she usually only eats 1 to 1 1/2 oz of that). My pediatrician told me with my first: you can't "overfeed" a baby. If they don't want to eat, they will turn away, and if they eat too much, they will spit it up because they can't digest it all at once.

i didn't formula feed my first but he basically nursed for HOURS at a time. i had the same concern about him always eating and my pediatrician had the same advice - a newborn should be fed if he's hungry. if he overeats, he'll spit up. if he's hungry, feed him.

lily is probably just a hungry girl! there's a 4 week growth spurt, right? maybe she's going through it. i wouldn't worry about overfeeding now.

I don't really know the difference or if there is one but I nursed Evan on demand and he ate ALL THE TIME. And was a total chunk. 99th percentile until about 8 months old when he started really moving. Now he's almost 2 and 40th percentile for weight. So I think feel them until they are full.....babies are just running on instincts if they are hungry and can hold it they probably need it Smile

Carter is a month old today. He eats 4-6 ounces every two hours. But he keeps it all down...no spitting up. I don't know how much he weighs now. I'll get on the scale with him later.

I agree with what the others said. In fact, yesterday we were at the ped and he said babies should gain 150-200 grams/day (5+oz-7oz)/week. My boy is at the top of that, but still fine. The dr said not to worry if they are just over (or just under).

Robbie ate about 5oz starting at about 10 days old.

If she is hungry feed her! My youngest was BF and literally would nursing for hours at a time sometimes. He was above the 95th percent from the time he was about 4 months old on.He was 4 weeks early and weighed 5lbs 15oz. and was able to wear preemie clothes.By 9 months he was wearing 18 months! At 9 months he was eating normal amounts and normally active. He is still on the bigger side about 75th % for weight and height but he DID level out with his feedings. If the dr is concerned she will talk to you about it but I am sure it is fine she is eating so much.
