Gianni was back in the NICU

So Gianni scared me to death Friday morning, we spent the night Friday and all day Saturday at Texas children's hospital in the level 2 nursery. They think he had a seizure but are not for sure. He has a follow up appointment with his PCP on Monday or Tuesday and they are suppose to recommend a neurologist for him to get an EEG done in 2 weeks. But I think I might talk to my neurologist and see if she has any recommendations. I love my neurologist and I have been seeing her for years. So this is what happened:
On Friday morning after I got done nursing Gianni I was burping him and I noticed his hair was wet. He was sweating,I gave him a kiss and his face was cold and clammy, so I touched his back and his back was wet with sweat! So I stripped him from all his clothes(pants, onsie, socks) except of his undershirt. And I noticed he had no color, he was pale-kind of yellow. At first I thought it was the lighting so I took him to the sun and he looked the same, no color. Then his eyes started rolling in the back of his head like he was passing out! It was so scary, like he was coming in and out of it. And he was panting. I to his temp. And it was 95.4 so I called his dr. And they had me go in right away. All of this happened for about 30 mins. When I got to the dr.s office he was back to normal, so the dr. Told me to go to the children's hospital to have test done on him. To not rush to take my time since I had my other boys. So I went home, fed the older boys, took them to the neighbors and went to the hospital. The did an EKG,chest X-ray and blood work. Everything came back normal and they decided to keep an eye on him overnight at a different location. So we were transported to the hospital downtown by ambulance. Got settled in the NICU and I thankfully was able to get a room at the Ronald McDonald house for the night.

Bubt thankfully he is doing fine, I just have to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't have another episode. It really scared me because when I have a seizure I sometimes do the same thing. I really pray he doesn't develope epilepsy and that this was something else or just a one time thing.

My goodness that does sound scary, I'm glad all the results came back fine & he is well now. Are there any tests that can be done for epilepsy or is that something you just have to wait out? ((hugs))

How scary is that!!! Bless your heart and his too. That would have freaked me out for sure. When I worked in peds I dealt with babies having febrile seizures and was always calm but the thought of it happening to my baby makes me anxious. I'm glad tests came back ok. How long is he going to be monitored? I pray that this was a one time thing. Please keep us posted on what happens.

We are home now, he was monitored for 24 hours and everything was ok. He is getting an EEG done in 2 weeks that checks for seizure activity. I'm just suppose to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't have another episode. So far he hasn't and I hope he doesn't.

OMG I can't imagine what that must have been like to go through. Is this something that your doc told you might happen since you're prone to these things, or was it totally unexpected? I'm so glad his tests came back OK... please KUP!

The dr. Has never told me to look out for it, it just happened. He had his follow up appointment today and his dr. Wants a CT scan done ASAP, so tomorrow they scheduling should be calling me to go get it done. And then to also schedule his EEG, she thinks it could of been a seizure as well given our family history of them. I'll KUP on how the CT scan goes. She was pretty confused why the hospital didn't do a CT scan, I don't like the thought of him having to be sedated, he already had an MRI when he was only 3 days old. My poor baby.

So the CT scan came back normal thank God! Now we just have to do the EEG. I'm pretty confident that it will come back normal as well.
