For Jennibeth(or anyone else)

We really are pretty boring most of the time, but we are lucky to travel often. My husbands job provides him with lots of time off, so we try to take advantage of it. He gets ~6 wks/yr vacation, then per kid he gets 6 months off until they are 12 (sort of confusing?? he can take one month+ vacations when he wants until they are 12, or 6 months at a time, I hope that makes sense?)
We have moved back and forth across the ocean twice now. I have never seen the Pacific coast, but we have a trip planned soon. hmm idk what else??

So each child under 12 entitles him to another 6m of vacation... so he could take an extra 2 weeks off (per year) every year or take up to 6 months at once without losing his position? That's so cool. From what you've said before about the maternity leave there it is super family-oriented. I don't remember where you're living now, could you tell me?

Wow that is fantastic! I wish the USA was a little more family friendly when it comes to vacation and maternity leave. My maternity leave was unpaid and I just now get 3 weeks of vacation a year at my job. In general I think Americans work too hard for too long and are always go go go. We don't take the time to relax and enjoy our lives. It is so sad.

But ANYWAY....Lil...You are still very mysterious to me! Are you a celebrity? Wink Did you ever tell us your first name? If you have, please forgive me. My memory stinks. I can't even remember your LO's name! Where do you live? I have all sorts of questions for you! Biggrin

I don't mean to be such a mystery. I think I am just one of those types who fall through the cracks and go unnoticed Lol I read celebrity gossip mags, does that qualify me as a celebrity? But I have met a few random celebs (no A listers though) people like Aston aka Family Man Barrett of Bob Marley and the Wailers fame, Tiffany, Rob aka Vanilla Ice Van Winkel, the Harlem Globetrotters, Harry Waters (Roger Waters, of Pink Floyd's son) yea there are a bunch more--completely random!
Oh and there was that PSA against dunderage drinking I played an extra in, maybe you would know me from there? Or from the Subaru promos I did? I hope you can tell I am being serious but funny?? I never know if people get my humor? I really did these things, but they are nothing to brag about only joke about Lol

Here is a long story shortened (because in case you haven't noticed I talk too much!), I go by Lil ever since I was a baby. It has been shortened from Little Baby. I always like to think of myself as the orignal Li'l. No one was ever named Li'l when I was a kid but as I got older there was Lil Kim, Lil Wayne, Lil Romeo, Lil Miss Muffett Smile

I have been around PO I forget people don't just know my kids. They also don't go by their real names. My girl I call her Gordita. Her friends and school call her Virginia. My middle is called Baby Boy by anyone who knows me. To strangers he is introduced as John and my husband calls him Johnny Boy. The littlest one is Quinny, Quintastic, Quintencential, Quintanimo, Quinner just about anything that Quin can be added to the front of. His siblings say Clinton! My oldest can't say Qu, so she says CL, and whatever she does, #2 has to copy.

We are in Germany, but VA is my home and we are about to purchase a home in FL to be closer to my sister. FL is where I generally spend most of my time. My husband is German, so he tries to speak just German to them at home and I English. In theory it is a great practice, but reality, it is too difficult. My husband and I speak english together, so it is hard to switch back and forth. The kids will go to an international school where they speak British. My daughter has been losing her southern draw for a London accent (her teacher is from London and from what others say she speaks very proper English).

The parental leave here is great, but I notice it is one of those, give them an inch take a mile things. Typically mothers (or fathers) can take 3 yrs, some moms wait 2.5 yrs, then get pregnant again... several times. So their job is held 9 years. I think that is unfair. There is also problems with KG, here KG starts at 3, because that is about when the moms go back to work. I recently heard an American mom say, (on the topic of not getting a KG spot) What are they trying to force me to stay home? then some more rude comments about sahm. I wanted to tell her first off in USA there is no free govt child care starting at 3 for the general public, so you got it pretty good. You got to stay home for 3 kids! all 3, right about 3 yrs apart! no way in USA you would be allowed to still recieve a check every month for you staying at home and that your older one gets fee child care, so youcan stay home with the baby! sorry I am going off the side a bit, yes people here have it good!

Another thing that bugs me is that when the moms do go back to work, they say, "these are the hours I can do, you must work everyone else around my schedule." In USA those moms would be out the door! Like with your nursing wouldn't it be nice to say to your boss, "I know I used to workfull time nights, but now I only want to work 12 hr/wk and all hours only during the day." I don't understand the slacker work ethic here. Americans (in general, of course there are exceptions) work really hard compared to here.

Ok that was all really long, anything else??? Smile

Haha you're funny Lil, now a bit less of a riddle wrapped in a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Smile TFS! Germany does sound like a great place to start a family.

Very cool - I think we've shared 2 BBs (well I spent a lot of time on Nov 09 which I think you were on...) but that's the most I've learned about you Smile

I do wish the US would have some sort of middle ground on parental leave.....even the ability to take more unpaid would be nice. I'm very lucky that my work allowed me to come back part time but my reality is I get paid for part time and work from home my days "off" easily adding up to more than 40 hrs/wk. While I know it's not fair I also know I won't be able to find anything where I'm home 2 days a week making what I make soooo I take it and I'm thankful.

What country is the international school in? That sounds pretty cool Smile

The schools are located in Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany and Italy. Her class has ~20 kids in it for 2 yrs of KG, kwim? Once she gets to 1st grade there will be less than half of that. The classes are really small, I like that.

I wish there wa an easier way to do the maternal leave in USA, but you know if it were to switch, someone would accuse someone else of abusing the system.

My first bb, 10/07 had 4 people come to 11/09 and now I think they are 4 quasi 11/09ers to come to 11/11. I think I am the only one with a 11/09 baby. But there are the 12/09s who joined us, so I consider you guys part of the 11/09 Smile It would have been crazy coincidence if one of my original 10/07 &11/09 buddies again joined this one!
